Definitions
- the present invention relates to the field of vehicles accessories. More particularly, the invention relates to a sun visor extender that may be attached to an existing sun visor of a vehicle in one group of embodiments (i.e., a "separate shade extender") or be an integral part of/in the visor body in other embodiments (i.e., an "integral shade extender").
- a sun visor extender that may be attached to an existing sun visor of a vehicle in one group of embodiments (i.e., a "separate shade extender") or be an integral part of/in the visor body in other embodiments (i.e., an "integral shade extender").
- US Patent application No. 2014/0118833 discloses a light filter (tinted, transparent plate) assembly for an automotive vehicle that includes a central plate or a sleeve with at least one filter attached to by a fastener.
- the filter has a substantially triangular shape with at least one curved edge, and can rotate about the fastener in a plane parallel to the central plate or sleeve.
- the present invention relates to a sun visor extender configured to attach to a sun visor, the extender comprising: a body in form of a blade, wherein said body is provided with an elongated slot that separates the body of the extender to a top part and a lower part, enabling the coupling of the extender to the visor by attaching the top part of the extender to the visor by using attaching means, so that said slot enables the movements of said extender in variety of directions and angles along, across and around the same plane of the visor while being coupled to said sun visor.
- the attaching means is a flexible band that forms a loop that passes through the slot while said band vertically circles the visor for attaching the top part of said extender to said visor.
- the tightness of the band around the extender and visor is adjustable (e.g., by using Velcro®).
- the slot forms an inclined profile at the body of the extender, thereby enabling to reduce the sun penetration through the slot to minimum or to completely prevent direct sun penetration through the slot (depending on the configuration of the profile form).
- the present invention relates to a sun visor assembly comprising:
- a sun visor extender having a body that is provided with an elongated slot; and c) attachment means to couple the sun visor extender to the sun visor through said slot as to enable the movements of said extender in variety of directions.
- the attachment means to couple the sun visor extender to the sun visor comprises at least one strap or band.
- the at least one strap is made at least in part of Velcro®.
- the present invention relates to a sun visor containing an integral and internal extender, able to be extended from the visor in all directions and angles that are generally parallel to the visor, the assembly comprising: a visor body that is made of two parallel side panels that are hinged together at their top ends while their bottom and one of their side form an opening, with the side panels pressing against one another in spring-like manner along the perimeter of the opening, and a board like extender inserted in the visor body between the visor open sides, so it can be moved to any position and angle against the holding force of friction between the visor sides and the extender/insert.
- the extender is provided with bulges or stoppers to prevent the extender from falling out of the visor.
- a lip is provided along the opening at the side and bottom of the visor, to determine a close position of the opening and thereby to facilitate holding to and moving of the extender.
- Fig. IE schematically illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the separate (attachable) shade extender itself
- Fig. 2D schematically illustrates a side-view of the sun visor with the integral shade extender inserted inside the sun visor. Closed position is shown in solid lines and open/down position is indicated by broken lines;
- Fig. 2F schematically illustrates an isometric view of the integral shade extender portion of Fig. 2E;
- Fig. 3A schematically illustrates a separate shade extender, according to another embodiment of the invention
- Fig. 3B schematically illustrates a front view of the separate shade extender of Fig. 3A
- FIG. 3C schematically illustrates a top view separate of the shade extender of Fig. 3A.
- figures 1A through 1G show a separate and attachable sun visor extender (herein extender) that can be used in conjunction with the invention.
- the device illustrated in these figures is particularly convenient because it can be applied as an add-on device to existing sun visors without the need to carry out any alteration in their structure.
- the separate sun visor extender generally indicated by numeral 2 in the figures 1A through 1G, comprises a generally flat board or blade, with its top part (“handle") 21 comprising preferably no more than a quarter of its height and is made thicker than the rest of the extender, and provided with an elongated slot 22 positioned between the top part 21 and the rest of the body of the extender 2 (i.e., the lower part of the extender's body).
- the elongated slot 22 enables the movements of the extender 2 in a variety of directions and angles along the same plane of the sun visor of a vehicle - generally indicated by the numeral 1 - while being coupled to the existing sun visor 1 by a flexible band or strap as indicated by numeral 3, surrounding the top or "handle" section 21 only, of the extender 2.
- the flexible band 3 forms a loop that passes through the slot 22 while it vertically circles visor 1 for attaching the top part 21 of extender 2 to the sun visor 1, and thereby coupling extender 2 to visor 1.
- the flexible band 3 can be made, at least in part, of Velcro® (i.e., hook-and- loop fasteners) as to secure the loop as indicated by numeral 24 in Fig. 1C and ID.
- the body of extender 2 may be made of opaque or dark translucent material.
- the sun visor extender 2 is flexibly joined to an existing visor offering three degrees of freedom of movement, allowing a driver to orient the extender at any desired position (up/down & left/right) and orientation (turn clockwise & counterclockwise), so that it hides the sun from the driver's eyes, when it appears below or the side of the existing visor.
- the sun visor extender 2 is shown installed while being coupled to side of the visor 1 that does include a mirror, so as to avoid the blockage of a mirror 19 (see Fig. 1A) which is usually exist in many types of visors.
- band 3 In addition to the functionality of band 3 as an attaching means, it further serves as an axis along and around which the sun visor extender 2 can be easily moved in all directions and angles.
- Figs. 1A and IB show exemplary possible positions of the extender 2 installed on visor 1.
- Fig. 1A shows this with the visor at the front windshield and thus the extender 2 is partially hidden behind the visor 1.
- Fig. IB shows this with the visor at the side window and thus the visor 1 is partially hidden behind the extender 2, and the band 3 is shown to hold the extender's top ("handle") part (No. 21 in fig. ID) while being inserted through the slot (No. 22 in Fig. ID) in the extender 2 .
- Such configuration enables the extender 2 to move in several directions such as horizontally (e.g., left/right), vertically (e.g., up/down), and angularly (clockwise/counterclockwise) or in any combination of these directions with respect to the position of the visor 1, making it possible to reach and hide the sun over a wide area all around the visor 2 perimeter.
- the slot 22 of the separate shade extender 2 can be formed in variety of ways.
- Figs. 3A-3C shown an implementation of a separate shade extender, according to another embodiment of the invention.
- the slot 22 is formed by an elongated element 31 that protrudes from the plane surface of extender 2 while leaving a space or gap between the body of element 31 and the surface of the extender 2.
- the bulges 21 (in Fig.2E), limit the extender 2 from falling out of the visor 2 as they can only move as far as the lip 12 (in Fig.2D) will allow them.
- the lip 27 (in Fig.2D) on the extender 2 determines the closed position of extender 2 as can be seen from Fig.2C, and it also serves to assist the driver in moving the extender 2 in relation to visor 1, as required to hide the sun or retract the extender 2 to closed position.
