Description
Method and Apparatus for Providing Services to a Remote UE
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to the field of communication technologies, and more specifically to a D2D communication technology.
BACKGROUND TECHNOLOGY
A D2D (Device-to-Device) communication is a novel technology enabling terminals to directly communicate by multiplexing cell resources under control of a system, which can enhance spectrum efficiency of the cellular communication system and lower terminal transmit power, and solve the problem of shortage of wireless communication system spectrum resources to a certain extent.
Currently, there are many research tasks on D2D, one of which is D2D relay. In this technical solution, a relay UE provides a connection to an operator's network for a remote UE. The relay UE relays traffic between the remote UE and the network. According to the definition of 3 GPP, the remote UE herein refers to a UE that is not served by the E-UTRAN (Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network) or a UE connected to the operator's network to enjoy network services via the relay UE. The relay UE herein is also referred to as a UE-to-Network Relay UE.
The remote UE, after accessing to the network via the relay UE, will use various services in the network. These services constitute a service chain. However, in the existing solutions regarding D2D relay, no solution can provide these services dynamically and intelligently for the remote UE, i.e., not specifying how the remote UE uses these services. Therefore, it becomes an imminent problem to be resolved as to how to provide an appropriate route or service chain for the remote UE.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Fig, 1 shows an application scenario diagram according to one embodiment of the present invention.
In the present embodiment, the remote UE 101 is not within the scope of E-UTRAN, but accessed to an operator's network via a relay UE 102. A D2D communication is employed between the remote UE101 and the relay UE 102. This relay manner is referred to as D2D relay. It should be noted that although the access manner employed by the relay UE in this embodiment is 3GPP-defined E-UTRAN, the present invention is likewise applicable to non-3 GPP-defined other access manners (e.g., WiFi) or future possibly emerging access manner.
The relay UE 102 is accessed to the IP service area of the operator via the eNB (evolved NodeB) 103, an MME (Mobility Management Entity) 104, and a PCEF (Policy and Charging Enforcement Function 105), the IP service area of the operator including various IP services provided by the operator. Meanwhile, the operator's network is connected to the Internet network. In this way, the remote UE 101 may enjoy various third-party applications in the Internet network via the relay UE102. What is exemplarily shown in the figure is a third-party application 108.
SPR (Subscription Profile Repository) 107 is preset with a service
configuration file of a remote UE. The service configuration file here is for setting the services used by the remote UE, which consists of at least one rule, wherein each rule indicates one condition and a set of services used by the remote UE under the condition. Table 1 exemplarily shows the contents of a service configuration file:
Table 1
Wherein the condition may be a combination of various items of information below:
- type of the remote UE or relay UE;
- prefix of the identification of the relay UE or scope of the identification of the relay UE;
- Prefix of the identification of the remote UE;
- APN (Access Point Number) information;
- Access technology type;
- Data flow identification;
- Application type;
- time;
- location;
- bandwidth;
- power level of UE;
- real-time situation of the network.
In one embodiment, if the remote UE 101 and SPR107 do not belong
to the same operator, the SPR107 may use one of the following items as the service configuration information of the remote UEl O l :
- default service configuration information;
The default service configuration information here refers to the default service configuration information set by the system for the remote UE in the D2D relay.
- service configuration information of the relay UE;
- the service configuration information of the remote UE obtained from the home network of the remote UE.
PCRF (Policy and Charging Rule Function) 106 formulates a service chain policy for the remote UE lO l , the service chain policy specifying network services used by the remote UE 101 , use conditions, and use sequence. The network services here may not only comprise the operator's IP services, but also may comprise a third-party application. The PCRF 106 notifies the PCEF 105 of the formulated service chain policy, such that the PCEF 105 executes the service chain policy, i.e., controlling route for the remote UEl O l to access the network based on the service chain policy. Specifically, the remote UE lO l accesses network nodes corresponding to various services according to a sequence specified in the service chain policy.
The PCRF 106 also monitors the network conditions in real time and changes the service chain policy of the remote UElOl if a trigger condition is met, and notifies the PCEF 105 of the updated service chain policy, such that the PCEF 105 executes the new policy.
Fig. 2 shows a schematic diagram of a process of providing services to a remote UE according to one embodiment of the present invention.
The process starts from step S201.
In step S201 , the remote UEl Ol or the relay UE 102 initiates a PDN (Public Data Network) connection process for the D2D relay, i.e.,
initiating a PDN connectivity request. Different from the existing PDN connectivity requests, this request includes a D2D relay identification Relay 1 , the D2D relay identification Relay 1 is used for identifying a correspondence relationship between the remote UElO l and the relay UE 102.
In step S202, like the prior art, the PCEF 105 will receive a request for creating a session, as the Create Session Request shown in the figure. However, different from the prior art, this Create Session Request includes the D2D relay identification Relay 1.
Next, in step S203, the PCEF 105 transmits an IP-CAN (IP-Connectivity Access Network) session establish request to the PCRF 106, as the IP-CAN Session Establish Request shown in the figure. The PCRF 106 derives that the request is initiated by a D2D relay based on the D2D relay identification, and the D2D relay corresponds to the remote UElO l and the relay 102.
In step S204, the PCRF 106 transmits a first information request to the SPR107, as the Profile Request shown in the figure. The first information request includes the D2D relay identification Relay 1.
Next, in step S205, the PCRF 106 receives a first information response from the SPR 107, as the Profile Response shown in the figure. The first information response includes the service configuration information of the remote UE lO l .
In one embodiment, the service configuration information of the remote UEl O l obtained by the PCRF 106 from the PSR 107 is shown in table 2:
Condition Service
Default If the data flow is between the remote
UE 101 and the third-party application
108, inquiring the third-party
application 108 for more services
The relay UE is Information security service (priority not credible level 1);
If the data flow is between the remote
UEI O I and the third-party application
108, inquiring the third-party 108 for more services
Table 2
In this embodiment, the relay UE102 is not a user of the remote UE I OI . Therefore, the relay UE 102 is not credible. Based on the service configuration as shown in Table 2, the PCRF 106 determines, for the remote UEI OI , that it is applicable to the second rule in Table 2, wherein the information security service is the IP services provided by the operator. Its priority level is 1 (i.e., highest priority), which indicates that the information security service is essential and it would be used the earliest. Based on this rule, the PCRF 106 needs to inquire the third-party application 108 to obtain more service information.
Then, in step S206, the PCRF 106 transmits a second information request to the third-party application 108, as the D2D Relay Service Query Request shown in the figure, to obtain the services provided by the third-party application 108 and the relevant service parameter. It should be noted that the present invention needs to enhance the existing Rx interface between the PCRF and the third-party application. The D2D Relay Service Query Request message newly introduced in the present invention includes an identification of the remote UE IO I , an identification of the relay UE102, and connectivity information. The connectivity information herein refers to the information of the data flow,
which may be 3GPP-defined Flow-Description AVP (Attribute Value Pair).
Then, in step S207, the PCRF 106 receives a second information response transmitted from the third-party application 108, as D2D Relay Service Query Response shown in the figure. The second information response includes relevant information related to the services provided by the third-party application 108. Such information, which included in the D2D Relay Service Query Response message newly introduced in the present invention, may be a list of services provided by the third-party application 108 (i.e., a set of services provided by the third-party application 108 that are available to the remote UE 101) and parameters related to these services. These services may be, for example, a greater bandwidth, a video buffer, a video flow optimization, etc. The parameters related to these services may be priority of each service, which is used for indicating the sequence of service arrangement when the PCRF 106 generates the service chain policy; or the condition of using services, which is used for indicating under what condition the service is available; these conditions may be time, location, available data traffic of the user, existing bandwidth of the user, user balance, etc. in this embodiment, the second information response includes the video stream optimization services provided by the third-party application 108 and relevant parameters.
In step S208, the PCRF 106 generates a service chain policy of the remote UE101 based on the service configuration information from the SPR 107 and the relevant information of the services provided by the third-party application 108.
In this embodiment, the service chain policy generated by the PCRF 106 for the remote UE101 is specified as below:
Default: information security service.
Data flow is between the remote UElOl and the third-party application 108: information security service, video stream optimization service.
Based on the policy, for the data stream from the remote UE lO l, in the default case, it will use the information security service; if the data flow is between the remote UElO l and the third-party application 108, it will firstly use the information security service and then use the video stream optimization service. It may be seen that the service chain policy actually also indicates the route of the network that the remote UElO l accessed.
It should be noted that step S206 and step S207 are not essential. If the service configuration information of the remote UE lO l does not include the indication of inquiring the third-party application, it would be unnecessary to inquire the third-party application. In the next step S208, the PCRF 106 generates the service chain policy of the remote UElO l based on the service configuration information from the SPR107.
After the PCRF 106 generates the service chain policy of the remote UE l Ol , in step S209, the PCRF 106 transmits an IP-CAN session establishment request response to the PCEF 105, as the IP-CAN Session Establish Response shown in the figure, the IP-CAN session establishment request response includes the service chain policy generated by the remote UElO l . The PCEF 105 will implement the policy afterwards, i.e., controlling route of the data stream from the remote UE lO l based on the policy.
Subsequent Steps S210 and S211 are identical to the prior art. The PCEF 105 transmits a Create Session Request Response to the MME 104, as the Create Session Response shown in the figure; then the PDN connection establishment is completed.
Afterwards, the remote UE lO l accesses the network and routes
based on the generated service chain policy.
In another embodiment, the PCRF 106 further real-time monitors the network environment or data stream from the remote UE lO l , and in conjunction with the service configuration information of the remote UE l Ol , once a monitoring result will trigger change of the service chain policy, changes the service chain policy of the remote UE lO l, and then notifies the PCEF 105 of the changed service chain policy of the remote UE l Ol ; the PCEF 105 will implement the changed policy.
In another embodiment, the PCRF 106 receives an indication message, from the third-party application 108, including updated relevant information related to the services provided by the third-party application 108. The PCRF 106 changes the service chain policy of the remote UE lO l based on such updated information, and then notifies the PCEF 105 of the changed service chain policy of the remote UElO l . The PCEF 105 will implement the changed policy.
Fig. 3 shows a schematic diagram of an apparatus for providing services to the remote UEl Ol in the PCRF 106 according to one embodiment of the present invention. The apparatus 300 comprises: a first transmitting device 301 , a first receiving device 302, a policy generating device 303, and a second transmitting device 304.
Hereinafter, the work process of the apparatus will be described with reference to Fig. 1 and Fig.2.
First, the remote UE lO l or relay UE102 initiates a PDN connection process for the D2D relay, i.e., initiating a PDN connectivity request. Different from the existing PDN connectivity request, this request includes D2D relay identification Relay 1. The D2D relay identification Relay 1 is used for identifying the correspondence relationship between the remote UElO l and the relay UE 102.
Next, the PCRF 106 receives the IP-CAN session establish request,
as the IP-CAN Session Establish Request shown in Fig. 2. The IP-CAN session establish request includes the D2D relay identification Relay 1 mentioned above. The PCRF 106 obtains, based on the D2D relay identification, that the request is initiated by one D2D relay, and what the D2D relay corresponds to are the remote UEI O I and the relay UE102.
Afterwards, the first transmitting device 301 transmits a first information request to the SPR107 in response to the IP-CAN session establish request, as the Profile Request shown in Fig. 2. The first information request includes the D2D relay identification Relay 1.
Then, the first receiving device 302 receives a first information response from the SPR107, as the Profile Response shown in Fig. 2. The first information response includes the service configuration information of the remote UEI O I .
The policy generating device 303 generates a service chain policy of the remote UE IOI based on the service configuration information from the SPR 107.
After the policy generating device 303 generates the service chain policy of the remote UE IO I , the second transmitting device 304 transmits an IP-CAN session establish request response to the PCEF 105, as the IP-CAN Session Establish Response shown in Fig. 2. The IP-CAN session establish request response includes the above generated service chain policy of the remote UEIO I . The PCEF 105 implements the policy afterwards, i.e., controlling route of the data flow from the remote UEIO I based on the policy.
In a further embodiment, the apparatus 300 further comprises a third transmitting device (not shown in the figure) and a second receiving device (not shown in the figure).
If the PCRF 106 determines a need of inquiring the third-party application 108 based on the service configuration information from the
SPR107, the third transmitting device transmits a second information request to the third-party application 108, as the D2D Relay Service Query Request shown in Fig. 2, for obtaining the services provided by the third-party application 108 and relevant service parameters. It should be noted that the present invention needs to enhance the current Rx interface between the PCRF and the third-party application. The D2D Relay Service Query Request newly introduced in the present invention contains an identification of the remote UE101 , the identification of the relay UE102, and the connectivity information. The connectivity information herein refers to information regarding the data flow, which may be 3GPP-defmed Flow-Description AVP (Attribute Value Pair).
Next, the second receiving device receives the second information response transmitted from the third-party application 108, as the D2D Relay Service Query Response shown in Fig. 2. The second information response includes relevant information related to the services provided by the third-party application 108. The information included in the newly introduced D2D Relay Service Query Response message in the present invention may be a list of services provided by the third-party application 108 (i.e., a set of services provided by the third-party application 108 that is available by the remote 101) and parameters related to these services. These services, for example, may be: a greater bandwidth, a video buffer, a video stream optimization, etc. The service-related parameters may be the priority of each service, which is used for indicating the sequence of service arrangement when the PCRF 106 generates the service chain policy; or the conditions of using a service, which is used for indicating under what conditions the service is available, these conditions may be time, location, data traffic already used by the user, existing bandwidth of the user, user balance, etc.
The policy generating device 303 is further used for generating a
service chain policy of the remote UE 101 based on the service configuration information from the SPR 107 and the relevant information related to the services provided by the third-party application 108.
In a still further embodiment, the apparatus 300 further comprises a first changing device (not shown in the figure) and a first notifying device (not shown in the figure).
The PCRF also real-time monitors the network environment or the data flow from the remote UE101, in conjunction with the service configuration information of the remote UE101. Once the monitoring result will trigger change of the service chain policy, the first changing device will change the service chain policy of the remote UE101. Then, the first notifying device notifies the PCEF 105 of the changed service chain policy of the remote UE101 ; the PCEF 105 will implement the changed policy.
In a still further embodiment, the apparatus 300 further comprises a second changing device (not shown in the figure) and a second notifying device (not shown in the figure).
The PCRF 106 receives an indication message from the third-party application 108, including updated relevant information related to the services provided by the third-party application 108. The second changing device changes the service chain policy of the remote UE101 based on such updated information. Then, the second notifying device notifies the PCEF 105 of the changed service chain policy of the remote UE 101 , and the PCEF 105 will implement the changed policy.
Fig. 4 shows a schematic diagram of an apparatus for providing services to a remote UE in SPR according to one embodiment of the present invention. The apparatus 400 comprises: a third receiving device 401 and a fourth transmitting device 402.
Hereinafter, the work process of the apparatus will be described in
detail with reference to Fig. 1 and Fig. 2.
The third receiving device 401 receives a first information request from the PCRF 106, as the Profile Request shown in Fig. 2. The first information request includes a D2D relay identifier Relay 1 , the D2D relay identification is used for identifying a correspondence relationship between the remote UE 101 and the relay UE102.
Next, the SPR107 will retrieve the locally saved service configuration information so as to obtain the service configuration information of the remote UE 101.
Then, the fourth transmitting device 402 transmits a first information response to the PCRF106, as the Profile Response shown in Fig. 2. The first information response includes the service configuration information of the remote UE 101.
