Abstract

A rolling element bearing is provided with at least one lubrication groove (1, 2) machined on at least one of the raceways of the rolling bearing to improve the creation of a lubricant film between the rolling elements and the respective raceway. The lubrication groove(s) (1, 2) is/are provided on the outer ring (10) and/or the inner ring of a radial bearing or on the raceway(s) of the washer(s) of a thrust bearing.

Description

ROLLING BEARING WITH LUBRICATION GROOVES IN THE RACEWAYS
The present invention is in the technical field of anti-friction bearings, more particularly, improvement of the surfaces of the raceways of anti-friction bearings by creating grooves on these raceways surfaces. It is well known that necessary lubrication of anti-friction bearing is achieved when good quality lubricants are used, in order to obtain a fine lubricating film between rolling components of the bearing during operation.
The main disadvantage of the conventional method is the lubricating limit due to the low quantity of lubricant forming a lubricant film between rolling components of the bearing, which creates contacts between raceway surfaces, rollers, and cage(s).
Lubricating quality improvement is the main problem, which this invention solves, along with a decrease in friction, by forming a lubricant film concentrator in the adjacent area of grooves created on the raceways.
It is given an example embodiment of the invention presented in Fig 1-6:
Fig. 1 is a partial sectional view of an external ring of the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of an external ring of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a detailed sectional view of a groove in an external ring of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a partial sectional view of an internal ring of the present invention;
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of an internal ring of Fig. 4;
Fig. 6 is a detailed sectional view of a groove in an internal ring of Fig. 5.
Referring now to the invention in more detail, in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, there is shown an external ring 10 of an anti-friction bearing having two grooves 1 and 2, machined on its raceway surface. In Fig. 3, there is shown the detail of the groove 1 of an external ring 10 of an anti-friction bearing. Grooves 1 and 2 are not necessarily identical. In Fig. 4 and Fig. 5 there is shown an internal ring 20 of an anti-friction bearing having two grooves 3 and 4, machined on its raceway surface. In Fig. 6, there is shown the detail of the groove 3 of an internal ring 20 of an anti-friction bearing. Grooves 3 and 4 are not necessarily identical.
The advantages obtained by the present invention are:
Lubricating characteristics improved;
Decreased heat generated on raceways surfaces;
Improvements in the starting torque and friction moment;
Longer lifetime.

When a component has more than one groove on the surface of the raceway it is not necessary that grooves must be identical. Referring to Fig.3 si Fig.6, the grooves are detailed according to a specific geometry.
7. Anti- friction bearing according to claim 1, characterized in that, in general, such a groove is created by a channel and a broken edge created on the edge located at intersection of the channel and the raceway surface. Broken edges may be in the form of chamfer, radii, or any other form. The channel may be in any form such as rectangular, circular, parabolic. The shape of the channel shall be chosen depending on the raceway surface, the type and size of the bearing; broken edges may not be needed. Channels may have other shapes rather than circular, e.g. helical.
