SYSTEM AND METHODOLOGY FOR
SELECTABLY PARTIALLY ENCLOSING ARTICLES
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a system and methodology for selectably partially enclosing articles.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Various systems and methods for enclosing articles are known in the art. The following patent publications are believed to represent the current state of the art:
U.S. Patent No. 8,100,278 and U.S. Published Patent Application 2010/00077702.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention seeks to provide a system and methodology for selectably partially enclosing articles.
There is thus provided in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention a method for wrapping an article with a circumferential image, the method including providing a sleeve of a heat-shrinkable material, the sleeve bearing a desired circumferential image, arranging the sleeve of a heat-shrinkable material over a circumference of an article and manually applying heat to the heat-shrinkable material, thereby causing it to shrink and tightly engage the article.
Preferably, the manually applying heat to the heat shrinkable material includes placing the article having the sleeve of a heat-shrinkable material arranged over a circumference thereof in a bath of heated water. Alternatively, the manually applying heat to the heat shrinkable material includes placing the article having the sleeve of a heat-shrinkable material arranged over a circumference thereof in a microwave oven and operating the microwave oven at an energy level and for a duration suitable for shrinking the sleeve of a heat-shrinkable material into tight engagement with the article. Alternatively, the manually applying heat to the heat shrinkable material includes directing a hair dryer at the article having the sleeve of a heat-shrinkable material arranged over a circumference thereof at an energy level and for a duration suitable for shrinking the sleeve of a heat-shrinkable material into tight engagement with the article.
In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention the method also includes using a computer to generate the circumferential image.
There is also provided in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention a system for enabling manually wrapping an article with a desired circumferential image including a computer running software which enables a user to generate a desired circumferential image, a printer operative to print the desired circumferential image on a heat-shrinkable substrate and a printing instruction generator responsive to an input from the computer for causing the printer to print the desired circumferential image on the heat-shrinkable substrate.
Preferably, the system for enabling manually wrapping an article with a desired circumferential image also includes an Internet communication link interconnecting the computer and the printing instruction generator. Alternatively, the printing instruction generator is imbedded in the software running on the computer.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The present invention will be understood from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the drawings in which:
Figs. 1A and IB are simplified pictorial illustrations of a shrink wrapping method operative in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention; and
Figs. 2A, 2B and 2C are simplified pictorial illustrations of a shrink wrap generating and applying system constructed and operative in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention, and
Figs. 3A and 3B are simplified pictorial illustrations of a shrink wrap generating and applying system constructed and operative in accordance with another preferred embodiment of the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
Reference is now made to Figs. 1A and IB, which illustrate one example of a preferred embodiment of the present invention. As seen in Fig. 1A, a plurality of generally flat, heat-shrinkable sleeves 100, preferably bearing fanciful indicia and drawings, are provided. The sleeves are preferably formed of heat shrinkable plastic, such as polypropylene or polyethylene. Sleeves 100 may be of a uniform size or of various sizes and are configured to be placed over and surrounding articles, such as bottles 102 or other containers. As seen in Fig. 1A, the placing of a sleeve 100 over an article, such as a bottle 102, may readily be carried out by a young child.
Once a sleeve 100 has been placed over the bottle 102 or other article, a moderate amount of heat may be applied to the sleeve 100, preferably by a responsible adult. Application of heat may be realized, for example, by employing a convection or radiation device, such as a hair dryer 320 (Fig. 3B) or microwave oven 210 (Fig. 2C), or alternatively by conduction, such as by placing the article, such as bottle 102, surrounded by the sleeve 100 in a bath of heated water for a few minutes, as shown in Fig. IB.
Upon application of a suitable amount of heat to the sleeve 100, the sleeve 100 shrinks in circumference and is thus retained on the article 102 and provides a desired outer surface thereof.
Reference is now made to Figs. 2A, 2B and 2C, which illustrate a shrink wrap generating and applying system constructed and operative in accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention. As seen in Fig. 2A, a user, typically a child, employing a computer 200, such as a table top computer, notebook computer, tablet or smartphone, may take or receive a picture or make a drawing or write a text or a composite of any of the foregoing, thereby providing a desired text and/or artwork 202.
The user preferably communicates the desired text and/or artwork 202 via the Internet with a shrink wrap sleeve generator site, which receives the desired text and/or artwork 202 and automatically applies it to one or more shrink wrap sleeves 206.
The sleeve or sleeves 206 are shipped to the user, who may then use them to enclose or decorate articles, such as bottles 208 or other containers.
Once a sleeve 206 has been placed over the bottle 208 or other article, a moderate amount of heat may be applied to the sleeve 206, preferably by a responsible adult. Application of heat may be realized, for example, by employing a convection or radiation device, such as a hair dryer 320 (Fig. 3B) or microwave oven 210 (Fig. 2C), or alternatively by conduction, such as by placing the article, such as bottle 208, surrounded by the sleeve 206 in a bath of heated water for a few minutes, as shown in Fig. IB.
Upon application of a suitable amount of heat to the sleeve 206, the sleeve 206 shrinks in circumference and is thus retained on the article 208 and provides a desired outer surface thereof.
Reference is now made to Figs. 3A and 3B, which illustrate a shrink wrap generating and applying system constructed and operative in accordance with another preferred embodiment of the present invention. As seen in Fig. 3 A, a user, typically a child, employing a computer 300, such as a table top computer, notebook computer, tablet or smartphone, may take or receive a picture or make a drawing or write a text or a composite of any of the foregoing, thereby providing a desired text and/or artwork 302.
The user preferably communicates the desired text and/or artwork 302 via the Internet with a shrink wrap sleeve generator site, which receives the desired text and/or artwork 302 and provides printing instructions to a suitable printer 310, such as an ink jet printer of the user, enabling sleeves 312, including artwork 302, to be printed by the user in a format provided by the shrink wrap sleeve generator site.
Alternatively, the shrink wrap sleeve generator site may be obviated and replaced by an application which may run on the user's computer and which provides printing instructions directly to the user's printer 310.
The printed sleeves 312 may then be placed over articles, such as bottles 314 or other containers.
Once a sleeve 312 has been placed over the bottle 314 or other article, a moderate amount of heat may be applied to the sleeve 312, preferably by a responsible adult. Application of heat may be realized, for example, by employing a convection or
radiation device, such as a hair dryer 320 (Fig. 3B) or microwave oven 210 (Fig. 2C), or alternatively by conduction, such as by placing the article, such as bottle 314, surrounded by the sleeve 312 in a bath of heated water for a few minutes, as shown in Fig. IB.
Upon application of a suitable amount of heat to the sleeve 312, the sleeve 312 shrinks in circumference and is thus retained on the article 314 and provides a desired outer surface thereof.
It will be appreciated by persons skilled in the art that the present invention is not limited to what has been specifically shown and described hereinabove. Rather, the scope of the present invention includes combinations and subcombinations of the features described hereinabove as well as modifications thereof which would occur to a person skilled in the art upon reading the foregoing description.
Claims
1. A method for wrapping an article with a circumferential image, the method comprising:
providing a sleeve of a heat-shrinkable material, said sleeve bearing a desired circumferential image;
arranging said sleeve of a heat-shrinkable material over a circumference of an article; and
manually applying heat to said heat-shrinkable material, thereby causing it to shrink and tightly engage said article.
2. A method for wrapping an article with a circumferential image according to claim 1 and wherein said step of manually applying heat to said heat shrinkable material comprises placing said article having said sleeve of a heat-shrinkable material arranged over a circumference thereof in a bath of heated water.
3. A method for wrapping an article with a circumferential image according to claim 1 and wherein said step of manually applying heat to said heat shrinkable material comprises:
placing said article having said sleeve of a heat-shrinkable material arranged over a circumference thereof in a microwave oven; and
operating said microwave oven at an energy level and for a duration suitable for shrinking said sleeve of a heat-shrinkable material into tight engagement with said article.

A method for wrapping an article with a circumferential image according to claim 1 and wherein said step of manually applying heat to said heat shrinkable material comprises directing a hair dryer at said article having said sleeve of a heat- shrinkable material arranged over a circumference thereof at an energy level and for a duration suitable for shrinking said sleeve of a heat-shrinkable material into tight engagement with said article.
5. A method for wrapping an article with a circumferential image according to claim 1 and also comprising using a computer to generate said circumferential image.
6. A system for enabling manually wrapping an article with a desired circumferential image comprising:
a computer running software which enables a user to generate a desired circumferential image;
a printer operative to print said desired circumferential image on a heat- shrinkable substrate; and
a printing instruction generator responsive to an input from said computer for causing said printer to print said desired circumferential image on said heat- shrinkable substrate.
7. A system for enabling manually wrapping an article with a desired circumferential image according to claim 6 and also comprising an Internet communication link interconnecting said computer and said printing instruction generator.
8. A system for enabling manually wrapping an article with a desired circumferential image according to claim 6 and wherein said printing instruction generator is imbedded in said software running on said computer.
