Definitions
- each string is anchored in the guitar tailpiece, is drawn along the guitar's neck and is wound on a peg, enabling the user to rotate the peg in order to tune the string by starching it. Due to mechanical limitations, usually the string is not tuned accurately as it should be.
- the present invention provides an apparatus that enables the user to trim the string stretches to achieve accurate tuning.
- the present invention is an intonation device for facilitating the tuning of a plurality of strings disposed upon a string instrument.
- an intonation device for facilitating the tuning of a plurality of strings disposed upon a string instrument.
- This intention devise is comprised of a leg assembly comprising a plurality of leg members for respectively holding individual ones of the plurality of strings; and an actuator assembly comprising a plurality of rotatable units which comprise rotatable members respectively engaged with the plurality of leg members for moving the plurality of leg members so as to cause the plurality of strings to be moved and thereby tuned.
- the intention device is provided wherein the plurality of rotatable members of the actuator assembly are independently movable so as to independently move the plurality of strings and thereby tune each string individually.
- the intention device wherein the plurality of rotatable members of the plurality of rotatable units are eccentrically mounted upon the rotatable members so that when the rotatable units are rotated, the eccentrically mounted rotatable members can cause movements of the plurality of strings in order to tune the strings.
- a string instrument having an intonation device mounted thereon for facilitating the tuning of a plurality of strings disposed upon the string instrument, wherein the intonation device comprises a leg assembly comprising a plurality of leg members for respectively holding individual ones of the plurality of strings; and an actuator assembly comprising a plurality of rotatable units which comprise rotatable members respectively engaged with said plurality of leg members for moving the plurality of leg members so as to cause the plurality of strings to be moved and thereby tuned.
- the instrument is provided wherein the plurality of rotatable members of the actuator assembly are independently movable so as to independently move the plurality of strings and thereby tune each string individually.
- the instrument is provided wherein the plurality of rotatable members of the plurality of rotatable units are eccentrically mounted upon the rotatable members so that when the rotatable units are rotated, the eccentrically mounted rotatable members can cause movements of the plurality of strings in order to tune the strings.
- the instrument is provided wherein the instrument is a guitar.
- the guitar is provided wherein first ends of the plurality of strings are secured to a first end of a guitar base, and second ends of the plurality of strings are secured to a second end of the guitar base; and a single one piece steel chassis is fixedly secured to the guitar base and extends from the first end of said guitar base to the second end of the guitar base so as to enhance the rigidity of the guitar base and thereby withstand the string tension as well as to avoid any distortion of the guitar base due to changes in ambient temperature and moisture.
- the intonation-device is an apparatus that is located close to the anchoring points of the strings, approximately where the fingers play the guitar.
- the intonation-device is comprised of a set of cylindrical units as illustrated in figure 1 , a leg-device made of a flexible material as illustrated in figure 2 and both are installed together as illustrated in figure 3.
- FIG. 1 illustrates the cylindrical units.
- Each cylindrical unit (10) designed with three main parts.
- Each unit has a disc (13) on the side of the narrow part and a niche (not shown), with the same dimensions as the disc, in the side of the wide part, enabling to connect few units columnar while each unit capable to rotate independently.
- Each unit has, on the wide part (15), few holes (15) in which a user can insert a stick and rotates the unit clockwise or anticlockwise.
- FIG. 2 illustrates the legs-device.
- the legs-device is comprised of a long bar (20) from which a number of legs (21 ) are raised, each leg is designed with a head with flat bottom (23) and small groove (22) on the top end.
- the groove (22) is designed to hold a string.
- At least the legs are flexible.
- Figure 3 illustrates how the set of units and the leg-device are installed and operated together and creating the apparatus.
- the leg-device and a set of units are joined in a way that each leg's head (23) lays on the ex-center roll ( 14) of the corresponding unit (10).
- the apparatus is located below the strings and each string is held in the corresponding leg's groove.
- the ex-center roll (14) elevates or lowers the leg (21 ) and accordingly stretches or releases the string. It also makes the string slightly shorter or longer accordingly.
- Figure 4 illustrates a cross section of the apparatus showing its operation.
- a stick can be inserted into the hole (15) enables to rotate the unit (1 1).
- the ex-center roll (14) elevates or lowers - according to its position - the leg's head (24), which elevates or lowers the string (30) and also effects the length of the string.
- each unit can be toothed and the rotation can be done by worm screw.
- a guitar with an intonation-device is provided.
- Such a guitar can be provided with some features as illustrated in figures 5, 6, 7 and 8.
- FIGs 5 and 6 illustrates a belt adaptor.
- a guitar is usually played while worn on the shoulder by a belt (42).
- Our guitar is a modular guitar and therefore the basic module (core guitar) would be inserted into a dedicated body of choice, which is available in different designs. If the customer chooses to buy the basic core- guitar (43), they would need to have a means to hang the core guitar on the shoulder. For that reason we have devised a dedicated belt anchoring device, the belt adaptor (41).
- the anchoring nuts (46) would engage into the anchoring slots on the core guitar body, 3 anchoring nuts on the belt adaptor base (44) and 3 anchoring slots on the core guitar body (45).
- Figures 7 and 8 illustrates strings anchored on steel chassis.
- the finger board is reinforced with metal rod, to make it stiffer and withstand the strings tension, to avoid constant re- tuning of the strings tone, due to fingerboard distortion from temperature and moisture changes.
- top anchoring (53) to bottom anchoring (54) of the strings
