Abstract

The present invention provides an in-band common control channel architecture in a wireless communication network. The control channel architecture comprises a plurality of nodes, comprising a control channel provided within the data channel associated with each node for exchanging control data with the other nodes in the network, the control channel comprising a first tier channel and a second tier channel; wherein the first tier channel is adapted to transmit control signals on a subset of the subcarriers of the data channel associated with each node and the second tier channel is adapted to transmit control signals over the entire bandwidth of the data channel associated with each node.
