Detailed description
[0005] The following detailed description refers to the accompanying drawings that show, by way of illustration, specific details and embodiments in which the invention may be practiced.
[0006] The word "exemplary" is used herein to mean "serving as an example, instance, or illustration". Any embodiment or design described herein as "exemplary" is not necessarily to be construed as preferred or advantageous over other embodiments or designs.
[0007] FIG. 1 is a schematic 100 illustrating a side view of a protective device according to various embodiments. The protective device may include a sheet 102 having a first surface 104a and a second surface 104b opposite the first surface 104a. The protective device may include a first plurality of discrete adhesive regions 106 on the first surface 104a. The protective device may further include a second plurality of discrete adhesive regions 108 on the second surface 104b.
[0008] In other words, the protective device may have a sheet 102 having two sides 104a. 104b. Each side may have a plurality of separate adhesive regions 106, 108.
[0009] The protective device may be a bib. In various embodiments, the protective device may be configured to be folded for use as a face mask. Further, the protective device may be used as a facial tissue. Various embodiments may be referred to as a multi-purpose bib (MPB). The protective device may be suitable for anyone such as babies, teenagers, adults, and the elderly. The protective device may help overcome social stigma associated with bibs as only suitable to be worn by babies. Various embodiments may help protect clothes or garments worn by the user in instances such as food spillage or splattering of sauces during eating. The protective device may be shaped to protect fully the most vitally exposed of a shirt and may yet be small enough not to cover the entire shirt to make the user feel awkward and disrupt the user's movement. Various embodiments may be user-friendly and easy to use. A user may also use the protective device to wipe his/her mouth if the protective device is still clean after the user finishes his/her food.
[0010] The first plurality of discrete adhesive regions 106 may each include a first adhesion structure. The second plurality of discrete adhesive regions 108 may each include a second adhesion stmcture. The first adhesion structure may be the same or may be different from the second adhesion structure.
[001 1 ] The first plurality of discrete adhesive regions 106 may be separated or isolated from one another. In other words, the first surface 104a of the sheet 102 outside the first plurality of discrete adhesive regions 106 may be devoid of adhesive (i.e; does not include adhesive). Likewise, the second plurality of discrete adhesive regions 108 may be separated or isolated from one another. In other words, the second surface 104b of the sheet 102 outside the second plurality of discrete adhesive regions 108 may be devoid of adhesive (i.e. does not include adhesive).
[0012] The protective device may be easy to use. The user may just have to stick the protective device on his /her shirt (instead of tying strings). It may not cause any discomfort. As the protective device includes adhesive regions on both sides 104a, 104b, the user may not need to figure which side to stick onto his/her shirt, which may help reduce hassle for the user. Users, both young and old, may be able to easily wear the protective device in seconds. In contrast, conventional bibs may be configured to be only worn on one side, which may be a hassle for the user as the user would have to locate the correct side to wear the bib. Having adhesive regions on both sides 104a, 104b on the sheet 102 may advantageously reduce hassle and confusion for the user as the user is no longer required to locate the side with adhesive regions to adhere the bib to the gannent. Also, having discrete adhesive regions (instead of having adhesive on an entire surface of the sheet) may lessen the point of contact or the point of adhesion with the clothing or garment as compared to conventional bibs. The clothing or garment of the user rriay be less likely to be damaged during removal of the bib when the point of contact or adhesion is reduced. Various embodiments may offer a protection large enough to protect the garment of the user, e.g. from spillage etc.
[0013] The sheet 102 may be rectangular or square. The adhesive regions may include adhesive tapes such as double-sided adhesive tapes. In other words, first plurality of discrete adhesive regions 106 may include adhesive tapes such as double-sided adhesive tapes and the second plurality of discrete adhesive regions 108 may also include adhesive tapes such as double-sided adhesive tapes.
[0014] Each adhesive tape may include a backing having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface. The first surface of the backing may include a first adhesive. The second surface of the backing may include a second adhesive. The first surface of the backing may be adhered to the sheet 102 via the first adhesive. The protective device may further include a protective layer adhered to the second surface of the backing via the second adhesive. The first adhesive may be the same as or may be different from the second adhesive. In various embodiments, first adhesive may be stronger compared to the second adhesive so that the adhesion of the backing to the sheet 102 is stronger than adhesion of the protective layer to the backing. In various embodiments, the first adhesive may be the same as the second adhesive but the protective layer may include a suitable material (e.g. a suitable polymer) that has reduced adhesion to the adhesive so that the adhesion of the backing to the sheet 102 is stronger than adhesion of the protective layer to the backing. During use, the protective layer may be easily peeled off, thereby exposing the second surface of the backing while the backing remains adhered to the sheet. The second surface of the backing may be adhered to a garment of the user via the second adhesive. In other words, the protective layer may be configured to be peeled off so that the second surface of the backing is exposed for adhering to a garment. The protective device may be a 'stick-on' bib, i.e. the protective device may stick on to a clothing or garment of a user through the adhesion of the second surface of the backing to the clothing or garment of the user. The adhesive tapes may be facial friendly. The tapes have undergone testing to ensure they do not cause irritation to a user. Various embodiments may be suitable to be worn by ladies with low-cut dresses.
[0015] The first plurality of discrete adhesive regions 106 may be or may include four adhesive regions. Each of the four adhesive regions or each of the first plurality of discrete adhesive regions may be in a corner region (of the first surface) of the sheet 102. Likewise, the second plurality of discrete adhesive regions 108 may be or may include four adhesive regions. Each of the four adhesive regions or each of the second plurality of discrete adhesive regions may be in a corner region (of the second surface) of the sheet 102. In other words, the protective device may have or may include four adhesive regions 106 on a first surface 104a of the sheet 102. The protective device may have or may include four adhesive regions 108 on a second surface 104b of the sheet 102. The sheet 102 may be square or rectangular and may have four corners. A corner region may be defined as a region on the sheet within a predetermined distance from a corner of a sheet 102. For instance, the predetermined distance may be about any value equal to or less than 3 cm, or any value equal to or less than 2 cm or any value equal to or less than 1 cm. In various embodiments, the corner region may be defined as a region on the sheet within 3 cm or within 2 cm or within 1 cm from a corner. In various embodiments, the device may include 8 adhesive tapes, 4 on each side of the sheet 102. The adhesive tapes at the corners may allow the protective device to be worn without much inconvenience or hassle. [0016] The sheet 102 may be of any other suitable shape, e.g. such as a pentagon. In such a case, the protective device may have or may include five adhesive regions on a first surface of the sheet 102, and may have or may include five adhesive regions on a second surface of the sheet 102. In various embodiments, the sheet may be hexagonal, circular, oval, or may have an irregular shape.
[0017] In various embodiments, each of the first plurality of discrete adhesive regions may be along an edge (of the first surface) of the sheet 102. Each of the first plurality of discrete adhesive regions may be within a predetermined distance, e.g. within 3 cm or within 2 cm or within 1 cm from an edge of the sheet. Each of the second plurality of discrete adhesive regions may be along an edge (of the second surface) of the sheet 102. Each of the second plurality of discrete adhesive regions may be within a predetermined distance, e.g. within 3 cm or within 2 cm or within 1 cm from an edge of the sheet.
[0018] The sheet 102 may include a suitable material which may not cause irritancy to the skin. The sheet 102 may be used as a facial tissue as the suitable material does not cause irritancy to the skin. Further, the suitable material may be impervious to water, unlike conventional facial tissues which may include thin material and which may not be able to prevent seepage and may not be used as bibs. Hot pressing the pulp material may make the material impervious to water. The sheet 102 may include a pulp material such as virgin pulp. The virgin pulp may be a three pulp virgin pulp, which is hot glued processed into paper towels. The virgin pulp may undergo a hot-press process. The protective device may be above 0.1 mm or may be above 0.5 mm in thickness.
[0019] The sheet may further include a carbon material. The carbon material may include charcoal. The carbon material may be interpersed with or may be embedded in the pulp material. Charcoal may help remove odour (act as an excellent deodourizing agent) which may help remove unwanted odour of material such as food or drinks spilled onto the protective device. Further, charcoal may also act as an effective filter for filtering out dust particles, which may improve the effectiveness of the protective device as a face mask.
[0020] The protective device may further include printed material on the sheet 102. The printed material may be on the first surface 104a or on the second surface 104b or on both surfaces 104a, 104b. The printed material may be logos or advertisements. The protective device may be used as a medium for companies to advertise their products or services or may be used as a promotional board. The printed material may alternatively be games such as Sudoku, Snakes and Ladders and quizzes, which may keep users occupied or entertained while they wait for their food.
[0021] The protective device may further include one or more slots (on the sheet 102). The one or more slots may be on the first surface 104a or on the second surface 104b or on both surfaces 104a, 104b. The protective device may include two slots for storing cutleries such as forks, spoons or knifes. The slots may particularly be useful for picnics when there is no suitable surface to place or store the cutleries.
[0022] The protective device may include one or more straps attached to the sheet 102. The one or more straps may be configured to secure the protective device to a user's face when the protective device is used as a face mask.
[0023] In various embodiments, a protective cover may be provided. The protective cover may include a first protective device, wherein the first protective device is a protective device as described herein. The protective cover may further include a second protective device, wherein the second protective device is a protective device as described herein. The second protective device may be adhered to the first protective device via at least one adhesive region on the first protective device. In other words, a first protective device may be adhered or joined to a second protective device to form a protective cover. The protective cover may have an area larger than each protective device. The protective cover may provide a larger area for protecting the clothes or garment of a user. By joining or by adhering an appropriate number of protective devices together, a protective cover having varying sizes may be formed. The user may be able to control the size of the protective cover to be used as a bib to control the protection area. Unlike existing bibs which come in standard sizes, the protective device may allow the user to control his/her protection area. The user may be able to enlarge the protection area he/she wants to protect on his/her clothing by simply sticking more protective devices (bibs).
[0024] In various embodiments, a package may be provided. The package may include a plurality of protective devices as described herein. The one or more protective devices may be folded. The package may include a holder to hold a stack including the one or more protective devices.
