Abstract

Film capacitors are used predominantly for line filters, but also for low-loss capacitive power supply units, for example in retrofit LED lamps. Attempts to integrate capacitive power supply units into the screw cap, in order to ensure all-round emission characteristics and to minimise heat losses, regularly fail for higher 4 to 8 Watt lamp wattages owing to lack of space, and for this reason the lamp current is limited by linear semiconductor circuits instead of practically loss-free capacitors. Said circuits however generate heat losses, which not only reduce the energy efficiency of the lamp but also cause accelerated degradation of the buffer electrolyte capacitor in close proximity, leading to a premature breakdown of the lamp. To solve this problem, the invention proposes a hollow film capacitor which can be placed over the centrally-located buffer electrolyte capacitor, ensuring improved utilisation of the base cavity, and which provides a loss- and heat-free limitation of alternating current, in addition to better dissipation of potential heat emissions from the buffer electrolyte capacitor to the sheet metal screw base than in the almost empty, sealed base cavity.
