Abstract

An arrangement for attaching two metallic ducting parts, such as ducting pipes (1), of air distribution ducting, which arrangement comprises an essentially straight pipe section on one end of a ducting pipe (1). The invention is implemented in such a way that on the opposite end of a ducting part, the ducting part comprises a joint end (1') having a diameter larger than the aforementioned straight pipe section, and that a groove (2) is formed in the joint end (1'), in which groove a seal (4) is arranged on the inside of the joint end (1'), and that the straight pipe section of the ducting pipe is arranged to be pushed into the joint end of a second ducting pipe.

Description

ARRANGEMENT FOR ATTACHING TWO METALLIC DUCTING PARTS OF AIR DISTRIBUTION DUCTING AND A DUCTING PART
The object of the present invention is an arrangement for attaching two metallic ducting parts, such as ducting pipes, of air distribution ducting, which arrangement comprises an essentially straight pipe section on one end of a ducting pipe. The object of the invention is also a metallic ducting part, such as a ducting pipe, of air distribu¬ tion ducting.
The invention thus relates to air distribution ducting, which is composed of parts to be attached to each other. The parts are metallic, e.g. hot-dip galvanized sheet steel. When joining two consecutive ducting parts, e.g. two straight ducting pipes, a joint piece is in¬ stalled between, the external diameter of the joint piece being slightly smaller than the internal diameter of the ducting pipes, in which case the joint piece can be pushed inside the ducting pipes to be joined. The other parts of the air distribution ducting can also be attached to each other by means of this type of joint piece.
A drawback in the use of a joint piece is, of course, the need for extra parts as well as the fact that stepping remains on the inner surface of the ducting, which collects dirt and is awkward to clean. A smaller internal diameter also means an unnecessary pressure loss.
The purpose of the present invention is to achieve a joint arrange- ment of metallic air distribution ducting, to which the aforementioned problems are not attached. The arrangement according to the invention is characterized in that on the opposite end of a duct¬ ing part, the ducting part comprises a joint end having a diameter larger than the aforementioned straight pipe section, and in that a groove is formed in the joint end, in which groove a seal is ar¬ ranged on the inside of the joint end, and in that the straight pipe section of a ducting pipe is arranged to be pushed into the joint end of a second ducting pipe.
One preferred embodiment of the arrangement according to the invention is characterized in that the seal is extruded into the groove.
Another preferred embodiment of the arrangement according to the invention is characterized in that a separate seal is installed into the groove.
The metallic ducting part according to the invention, such as a ducting pipe, of air distribution ducting is characterized in that a joint end is formed on one end of a ducting pipe that is of essen- tially standard diameter, the joint end having a diameter that is larger than the other diameter of the ducting pipe, and in that a groove is formed in the joint end, in which groove a seal is ar¬ ranged. One advantage of the invention that can be mentioned is that fas¬ tening the ducting parts to each other can be done without intermediate pieces. In addition, the inside surface of the ducting con¬ tinues essentially evenly also at the point of connection, as a result of which dirt does not adhere to it there and pressure losses do not occur.
In the following, the invention will be described in more detail by the aid of some preferred embodiments with reference to the at¬ tached drawings, wherein
Fig. 1 presents a ducting pipe, according to the invention, of air distribution ducting.
Fig. 2 presents a three-dimensional view of the end of the ducting pipe according to Fig. 1. Fig. 3 presents a section of a part of the end of the ducting pipe according to Fig. 1.
Fig. 1 thus presents a ducting pipe 1 of air distribution ducting, for use in the invention. The ducting pipe is manufactured from metal, e.g. from hot-dip galvanized sheet steel. Which exact method is used to manufacture the ducting pipe is not within the scope of the present invention and is not described in more detail herein.
The ducting pipe 1 is mainly straight and is provided with a standard diameter. At one end of it, however, is a joint end 1' that is slightly larger in diameter than the rest of the pipe. When a second similar ducting pipe is pushed into this joint end 1', no stepping or other discontinuity is formed on the inside surface of the ducting joint, but instead the inside surface is essentially uniform.
A groove 2 extending around the whole rim is made in the joint end 1', into which groove sealing material 4 is extruded onto the inside of the joint end 1' for sealing the ducting joint. The seal can also be installed as a separate part. The outermost part 3 of the joint end 1' is made to be slightly conical, i.e. widening towards the end of the pipe, for facilitating installation of the ducting part to be attached.
The joint between the ducting parts is thus made by pushing the ducting pipe end of standard diameter into the wider end of a second ducting pipe. The joint is locked mechanically e.g. with a screw, rivet or in some other manner.
It is obvious to the person skilled in the art that the invention is not limited to the embodiments described above, but that it can be varied within the scope of the claims presented below. Described above is the making of a ducting joint between straight pipe- shaped sections. A corresponding joining method can be used also when attaching other ducting parts to each other. The characteristic features possibly presented in the description in conjunction with other characteristic features can also, if necessary, be used separately to each other.
