Description
The present invention relates to a laundry dryer, in particular a laundry dryer for domestic use. The present invention more particularly relates to a drying rack suitable for deployment into the drum.
Several techniques have been devised for drying wet laundry. In particular, ventless laundry dryers such as heat-pump type laundry dryers and condenser type laundry dryers are well known in the art. In general, in a laundry dryer the clothes are dried by conveying hot process air through the rotating drum. A drawback of such drying technique is that the delicate laundry is generally subjected to excessive wear and tear as they are rotated inside the drum. For overcoming such drawbacks, a laundry dryer is usually provided with a drying rack which can be immovably deployed into the rotating drum.
WO2012/110319 A2 discloses a laundry dryer which is equipped with a removable drying rack for supporting the laundry inside the drum. This prior art drying rack can be immovably deployed into the drum of the laundry dryer so that it does not rotate.
The prior art drying rack generally has a perforated basket which allows the hot process air to flow through the basket and dry the laundry therein. In general, the user loads the drying rack with the delicate laundry and subsequently deploys the drying rack immovably into the drum.
A drawback of the prior art drying rack is that the laundry which is loaded into the perforated basket develops wrinkles and creases during the drying process. In such cases the customer will not be satisfied with the drying result. Thus, the customer will most likely need to do some additional ironing work to smooth out the resistant wrinkles and creases. Consequently, the energy consumption and the total time spent for the whole laundry will increase. Another drawback of the prior art drying rack is that it requires a relatively large stowage space. In the aforementioned circumstances the customer satisfaction may easily degrade.
An objective of the present invention is to provide a drying rack and a laundry dryer having the same which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art in a cost effective way and which enables an improved drying performance and an improved usability.
This objective has been achieved by the drying rack as defined in claim 1 and the laundry dryer as defined in claim 15. Further achievements have been attained by the subject-matters respectively defined in the dependent claims.
The drying rack of the present invention comprises at least three lattices which are serially and pivotably connected by hinges. The three lattices include a leading lattice, an intermediate lattice and an end lattice. The drying rack of the present invention further comprises a retainer for retaining the three lattices and a fixing device for fixing the retainer to a bearing of the drum. The three lattices and the retainer selectively assume an unfolded state for laying the laundry such as a trouser or the like flat on the lattices, a z-like folded state for deployment into the drum together with the folded laundry and a collapsed state for stowage. In the unfolded state the three lattices are all horizontally side by side. In the z-like folded state the leading lattice and the end lattice are substantially horizontal and the intermediate lattice is inclined. In the collapsed state the lattices are all substantially horizontal one above the other.
In an embodiment, the retainer comprises a pivotable wire frame and two pivotable side lattices which are hinged on the end lattice. The side lattices abut against, in the z-like folded state, the leading lattice from below so as to support the latter. In the z-like folded state the side lattices are detachably and vertically retained by the wire frame so as to enclose together with the end lattice and the intermediate lattice a space which is suitable for accommodating clothes, shoes or the like. In a version of this embodiment, each side lattice has been integrally provided with an abutment which matches the leading lattice. In another version of this embodiment, each side lattices has been provided with a claw which detachably engages with the wire frame.
In another embodiment, in the z-like folded state the leading lattice can be releasably locked in position by a latching device disposed on each side lattice.
In another embodiment, the fixing device is pivotably disposed by at least one hinge onto the retainer and can become horizontal in the collapsed state.
In another embodiment, the retainer is fixable to the front section of the bearing.
In another embodiment, each hinge is integrally formed onto the respective lattice and the fixing device.
In another embodiment, the lattices have rectangular shapes respectively.
In another embodiment, the retainer is upright both in the unfolded state and the z-like folded state and horizontal in the collapsed state.
With the present invention, the drying rack has been rendered collapsible so as to occupy a comparatively small stowage space. Thereby, the user can easily stow the drying rack either inside the drum or outside the drum without that the drying rack becomes a serious obstacle. With the present invention, the user has been enabled to lay the laundry to be dried flat onto the unfolded drying rack and to fold the drying rack concurrently with the laundry thereon into the z-like folded state and to deploy the drying rack together with the z-like folded laundry into the drum. Thereby, the user has been enabled to bring the drying rack in a few actions in a folded state, namely a state which is ready for deployment into the drum, while simultaneously folding the laundry. Thereby, also the burden on folding the laundry has been eased. With the present invention, the laundry can be prevented from developing wrinkles and creases during the drying process due to its orderly folded state. In addition, the drying process of the laundry becomes shorter and the energy consumption is reduced due to the z-like folded state of the laundry which has an effectively larger drying surface that is brought into contact with the hot process air. Thereby, the consumer satisfaction can be increased.
