Description
COMBINATION OF A WASTE CONTAINER AND A DEVICE FOR CLEANING THE WASTE CONTAINER, AND METHOD FOR CLEANING OF A WASTE CONTAINER
Field of the invention
The invention relates to a combination of a waste container to be cleaned and a device for cleaning a waste container. The invention also relates to a method for cleaning such a waste container by means of such a device. The invention further relates to a vehicle provided with such a combination. Particularly referred to here is an underground waste container with one or more hinged bottom flaps. 'Underground waste container' is understood to mean 'a waste container which is placed underground for the purpose of collecting waste'.
Background of the invention
It is known to collect waste by means of a vehicle provided with means for emptying a waste container, for instance into a trough, and displacing waste to a loading space, for instance by means of a pressing mechanism. An emptied waste container can also be cleaned here by means of one or more optionally rotating spray heads suitable for spraying a liquid, generally water. US2010/206331A1, EP0578317A1, EP1302414A1 and CH698727B1 describe examples hereof. A smaller waste container, also referred to as 'mini-container', which is used in households and other locations, can thus be emptied and adequately cleaned. A larger waste container, such as an underground waste container or a rolling container, can in principle also be adequately cleaned, but the waste container has to be lowered and/or raised here by means of a crane provided for the purpose in order to thus enable spraying of the whole surface for cleaning. In the case of an underground waste container with one or more hinged bottom flaps there is, when a flap has been opened, a relatively small gap or aperture between the flap and the collecting bin of the waste container through which, at determined relative positions of the
spray head(s) and the waste container during cleaning, water and/or fouling is sprayed, this being highly undesirable. In known devices it is not possible to spray the whole surface for cleaning without water and/or fouling being sprayed at determined moments through the space(s) between the flap(s) and the collecting bin of the waste container. This means in practice that spraying takes place only in those relative positions of the spray head(s) and the waste container in which water and/or fouling are not sprayed through the space(s) during cleaning, so that not the whole surface for cleaning is sprayed. The non-sprayed part of the surface for cleaning, generally a part of the inner side(s) of the flap(s), which are in general precisely those parts which are the most fouled, is hereby not or insufficiently well cleaned. This part then has to be cleaned in other manner, usually by being manually scraped clean, this entailing extra work and cost.
There is therefore a need for an improved solution for cleaning of a waste container, in particular an underground waste container with one or two hinged bottom flaps, which does not have the stated drawbacks. The present invention now provides this.
Summary of the invention The invention provides a combination as according to claim 1, a method as according to claim 7 and a vehicle as according to claim 13. 'No liquid' is in all cases understood to mean 'at least substantially no liquid, or at least no disruptive quantity of liquid'. 'Wholly sprayed' is in all cases understood to mean 'at least substantially wholly sprayed'. 'Position' is understood in all cases to mean 'location and angular position'. The liquid will generally be water, optionally with a cleaning agent dissolved therein. The at least one flap can thus be wholly sprayed and cleaned without liquid and/or fouling being sprayed through the hinged connection, and a further treatment such as the least one flap being scraped clean is not necessary. The relative position of the waste container and the at least one spray head can be controlled here within determined limits such that the inner sides of the collecting bin are also sprayed with liquid during the spraying of liquid by means of the at least one spray
head, wherein the at least one spray head is configured and suitable for generating a spray pattern of a form such that, the relative position of the waste container and the at least one spray head having been controlled within the determined limits, no liquid is sprayed through the at least one free space between the end edges during spraying of liquid by means of the at least one spray head. The inner sides of the waste container can thus also be sprayed and cleaned without liquid and/or fouling being sprayed through the hinged connection.
When the waste container comprises two hinged bottom flaps, the device preferably comprises at least two spray heads. This increases the options for realizing a desired spray pattern. The combined spray pattern of the at least two spray heads can thus be such that both flaps are wholly sprayed and cleaned without liquid and/or fouling being sprayed through the free spaces between the end edges, and a further treatment c.q. scraping clean of the two flaps is not necessary. The relative positions of the waste container and the at least two spray heads can be controlled within determined limits here such that the inner sides of the collecting bin are also sprayed, and no liquid is sprayed through the free spaces between the end edges during the spraying. The inner sides of the waste container can thus also be sprayed and cleaned without liquid and/or fouling being sprayed through the hinged connections.
At least one spray head can be displaceable and/or rotatable relative to the other part of the device. This increases the options for realizing a desired spray pattern.
Using a vehicle provided with a combination according to the invention waste containers can be emptied and cleaned without the stated drawbacks, after which the collected waste can be dumped or separated, further processed and reused.

figure 4 shows a schematic cross-section of the combination during emptying of the waste container, and
- figure 5 shows the cross-section during cleaning of the waste container according to the invention;
- figure 6 shows a perspective view of a detail of the device; and
figure 7 shows a schematic cross-section of the waste container with two spray heads therein during cleaning of the waste container according to the invention.
Exemplary embodiments
Figures 1 and 2 show the cleaning of a waste container (2), here an underground waste container, by means of a spray head according to a prior art method. Waste container
(2) comprises a collecting bin (3) provided with a passage opening (5) and two flaps (6), here bottom flaps, which close passage opening (5) in a first position (not shown) and leave it clear in a second position (as shown). Flaps (6) are each connected hingedly at an end edge (16) to an end edge (17) of collecting bin (3). In figure 1 the spray head is situated at a first, higher position relative to waste container (2) in which no water and or fouling is sprayed through free spaces (7) between end edges (16;17). In this first position however not the whole of the sides (13) facing toward the spray head, the inner sides, of flaps (6) is sprayed. In figure 2 the spray head is situated at a second, lower position in which the whole of the sides (13) of flaps (6) facing toward the spray head is indeed sprayed. In this position however water and/or fouling is sprayed through free spaces (7) between end edges (16; 17). It is therefore not possible
to spray and clean the whole of the inner sides of flaps (6) without water and/or fouling being sprayed through free spaces (7) between end edges (16; 17).
The device (1) for emptying and cleaning a waste container shown in figure 3 is placed for use on a vehicle (not shown) and comprises first means in the form of a crane (not shown) for raising, lowering and displacing the waste container, a trough (15), a second receiving space (8) which forms a collection space for waste, a third receiving space (9) forming a loading space for waste, and second means (10), here a pressing device in the form of a ram, for displacing waste from the collection space to the loading space, this all as normal. According to the invention device (1) now also comprises two spray heads (11) mounted on a movable arm (14) with a combined spray pattern (12) which has a form such that during spraying, when the two flaps (6) are in the second position and the two spray heads (11) are situated at a position relative to the hinged connections in which no water is sprayed through free spaces (7) between end edges (16; 17), the inner sides of the two flaps (6) are nevertheless wholly sprayed with water, as best shown in figure 7. Waste container (2), and particularly the whole of the inner sides of flaps (6), can thus be cleaned after emptying without water being sprayed through free spaces (7) between end edges (16; 17) and without the necessity of a further treatment c.q. scraping clean of non-sprayed surfaces for cleaning.
Starting from the situation outlined in figure 7, the relative positions of waste container (2) and the two spray heads (11) can be controlled/varied such that a desired portion or the whole of the inner sides (18) of waste container (2) are also sprayed and cleaned. Waste container (2) can for this purpose be displaced, in the given case lowered by means of the crane, and/or turned/rotated and/or spray heads (11) can be displaced, in the given case upward, and/or turned/rotated.
It will be apparent that the invention is not limited to the shown and described exemplary embodiments, but that diverse variants which will be obvious to a skilled person are possible within the scope of the invention. For instance, the invention can
also be applied in principle for the purpose of emptying and cleaning other large containers, for instance rolling containers.
