 手書き入力モードと画面操作モードとを切り替える方法として、モード切り替え用の操作ボタンを画面上に表示し、ユーザに選択させる方法が考えられる。また、ユーザの複数の指を用いて操作を行うマルチタッチを用いて、手書き入力モードと画面操作モードとを切り替える方法が考えられる。たとえば、指一本での入力であれば、手書き入力モードと判定し、指二本での入力であれば、画面操作モードと判定する。
 しかしながら、モード切り替え用の操作ボタンを用いて、手書き入力モードと画面操作モードとを切り替える場合、ユーザは手書き入力を行いたい場合や、画面操作を行いたい場合にそれぞれ、モード切り替え用の操作ボタンを選択しなければならず、余計な手間がかかってしまう。
 また、マルチタッチを用いて、手書き入力モードと画面操作モードとを切り替える場合、ユーザが切り替えたいモードの操作方法を予め認識し、区別して行わなければならないなど、操作の複雑性が増す。
 本発明は、上記の問題点を鑑みたものであり、ユーザがタッチ操作によって電子機器を操作する際の操作性を向上させることができる電子機器、モード判定方法およびモード判定プログラムを提供することを目的とする。
 開示の技術の一観点によれば、タッチ操作により手書き入力が行われる手書き入力モードと、タッチ操作により画面の操作が行われる画面操作モードとを有する電子機器であって、前記タッチ操作が行われるディスプレイと、前記タッチ操作の位置を検出するタッチ操作検出部と、前記ディスプレイ上のユーザの視線の位置を算出する視線位置算出部と、前記算出された視線の位置と前記検出されたタッチ操作の位置との関係に基づき、前記手書き入力モードか前記画面操作モードかを判定するモード判定部とを備えることを特徴とする電子機器が提供される。
 開示の技術の一観点によれば、ユーザがタッチ操作によって電子機器を操作する際の操作性を向上させることができる電子機器、モード判定方法およびモード判定プログラムを提供することができる。

 本件では、ユーザがタッチ操作によって操作する際の操作性を向上させることができる電子機器およびモード判定方法を提供する。
 以下に、電子機器およびモード判定方法の実施例を図面に基づいて詳細に説明する。なお、この実施例は、開示の技術を限定するものではない。
 (第1の実施形態)
 (携帯端末のハードウェア構成)
 図1は、第1の実施形態に係る携帯端末100のハードウェア構成の概略図である。第1の実施形態では、携帯端末100として、例えば、スマートフォンやフィーチャーフォンなどの携帯電話機、タブレットコンピュータ、パーソナルコンピュータ等を使用してもよい。
 携帯端末100は、所定の処理を実行する前に、ユーザの認証を行う。所定の処理は、例えば、携帯端末100のロックを解除する処理や、ユーザのプライベートなデータにアクセスする処理などである。
 図1に示すように、携帯端末100は、ハードウェアの構成要素として、アンテナ1に接続される無線通信回路2と、CPU3と、ROM4と、RAM5と、画面を表示するディスプレイ6と、指やタッチペンなどによる入力を検出するタッチパネル7と、赤外線を照射する光源8と、画像を撮影するカメラ9を有する。これらのハードウェアモジュール(ハードウェアの構成要素)は、例えば、バスにより相互接続される。携帯端末100は、タッチパネル7とディスプレイ6が重ねて設けられた表示領域を有し、タッチパネル7上で検出されたタッチ位置が、ディスプレイ6に表示される画面上の位置とが一致するように設けられる。
 無線通信回路2は、外部装置と通信するための手段である。無線通信回路2は、本実施形態においては、移動通信網等のネットワークに接続するための手段である。なお、無線通信回路2は、本発明にあっては必須ではない。
 ROM4は、CPU3により実行される各種プログラムを格納する。ROM4は、電源を切ってもデータが消えない不揮発性のメモリである。各種プログラムとしては、例えば、携帯端末100が実行するアプリケーションプログラムやOS(Operation System)などがあり、これらは携帯端末100の電源が切れてもROM4に保持される。
 RAM5は、CPU3が、ROM4内のOSなどのデータを展開する記憶領域として用いられる。例えば、RAM(Random Access Memory)などを使用してもよい。
 CPU3は、ROM4に格納された各種プログラムを読み出して、各種プログラムを実行することで、無線通信部10、モード判定部11、表示部14、タッチ操作検出部15、光照射部16、画像取得部17、視線位置算出部18として動作する。
 携帯端末100は、ROM4内にOSを格納する。携帯端末100の電源が入れられると、CPU3が、ROM4内のOSのデータをRAM5に展開し、OSで予め定義されているプログラムが実行され、画面表示が行われる。画面表示が行われた後に、ユーザの操作待ち状態となり、ユーザの操作が検出された際に、CPU3に割り込み処理が入り、ユーザの操作に対して、OSで予め定義された処理が実行される。
 ディスプレイ6は、液晶素子や有機EL(ElectroLuminescence)素子により画像を表示する表示パネルと、表示パネルを駆動する駆動回路等を有する。タッチパネル7は、ディスプレイ6の表示面に重ねて設けられるセンサを有し、ユーザに指示された位置を表す座標情報をモード判定部11に供給する。タッチパネル7のセンサは、例えば、指との静電結合を利用して指を感知する静電容量方式のセンサである。
 光源8は、例えば、ディスプレイ6の周縁部の上側付近に設けられ、赤外線を照射する。
 カメラ9は、例えば、ディスプレイ6の周縁部の上側付近に設けられ、画像を撮影する。
 (携帯端末の機能ブロック)
 次に、第1の実施形態に係る携帯端末100の機能ブロックについて説明する。図2は、第1の実施形態に係る携帯端末100の機能ブロック図である。
 図2に示すように、携帯端末100は、機能ブロックとして、無線通信部10、モード判定部11、第1記憶部12、第2記憶部13、表示部14、タッチ操作検出部15、光照射部16、画像取得部17、視線位置算出部18を有する。
 無線通信部10は、無線通信回路2を用いて移動通信網等のネットワークに接続する。
 モード判定部11は、後述するモード判定処理を行う。
 第1記憶部12は、ROM4を用いて各種プログラムを格納する。第2記憶部13は、RAM5を用いて、後述する第1関係情報19および第2関係情報20を格納する。
 表示部14は、ディスプレイ6を用いて画面を表示する。タッチ操作検出部15は、タッチパネル7を用いてタッチ操作を検出する。
 光照射部16は、赤外線を照射する光源8を用いて赤外線を照射する。画像取得部17は、カメラ9を用いて画像を撮影する。視線位置算出部18は、後述する視線位置算出処理を行う。
 第1の実施形態において、携帯端末100は、タッチ操作により手書き入力が行われる手書き入力モードとタッチ操作により入力対象領域の移動などの画面操作が行われる画面操作モードを有し、タッチ操作が行われるタッチパネル7と、タッチ操作の位置を検出するタッチ操作検出部15と、ディスプレイ6上のユーザの視線の位置を算出する視線位置算出部18と、モード判定部11とを有する。モード判定部11は、算出された視線の位置と検出されたタッチ操作の位置との関係に基づき、手書き操作モードか画面操作モードかを判定する。
 これによって、携帯端末100は、ユーザがタッチ操作によって操作する際の操作性を向上させることができる。
 (モード判定の判定基準)
 手書き入力モードは、タッチ操作によって書かれた文字の入力や、タッチ操作によって描画される入力などの手書き入力を受け付けるモードである。画面操作モードは、写真や画像などの入力対象の移動、画面のスクロールなどの画面操作を受け付けるモードである。
 モード判定部11が手書き入力モードか画面操作モードかを判定する際に用いる関係情報について説明する。
 本件発明者は、ユーザが手書き入力を行っているとき、または、画面操作を行っているときのディスプレイ6上の視線の位置とタッチパネル7上のタッチ操作の位置とに有意な関係性があることに着目した。ユーザが手書き入力を行っているときは、視線の位置は、タッチ操作の位置、移動方向に追従する傾向が高い。また、ユーザが画面操作を行っているときは、視線の位置は、タッチ操作の位置に対し、タッチ操作の移動方向と逆側に位置する傾向、視線の移動がタッチ操作の移動方向と逆である傾向が高いことが分かった。
 ここで、手書き入力モードと画面操作モードについて説明する。図3Aは、手書き入力モードのイメージ図である。図3Bは画面操作モードのイメージ図である。
 手書き入力モードでは、図3Aに示すように、ディスプレイ6に入力対象21と手書き入力により入力されたタッチ操作の軌跡22が表示される。ディスプレイ6内の入力対象21は、実線で示し、ディスプレイ6の表示範囲外の部分は、点線で示す。携帯端末100は、表示された入力対象21を含む表示領域に対して、タッチ操作により手書き入力が行われる。図3Aにおいて、指23は現在タッチされているタッチ位置を示す。点線の円24は、ユーザの視線の範囲を示す。
 手書き入力モードにおいて、ユーザが手書き入力を行う場合、タッチ操作による描画に対し、ユーザの視線は、円24で示す範囲に位置する。円24の大きさは、ユーザが特定の点を注視している時に、視線が分散する範囲による。ユーザが手書き入力を行っているときは、視線の位置は、タッチ操作の位置、移動方向に追従することを示す。モード判定部11はこの関係性を用いて手書き入力モードと判定する。
 画面操作モードでは、図3Bに示すように、ディスプレイ6に表示された入力対象21を含む表示領域に対して、タッチパネル7を有するディスプレイ6にタッチしたタッチ操作が矢印25方向へ移動することによって、入力対象21を移動することができる。画面操作モードにおいて、ユーザが入力対象21の移動を行う場合、ユーザの視線は、タッチ操作の位置に対して、タッチ操作の移動方向と逆側に位置する円24の位置にある。モード判定部11は、この関係性を用いて画面操作モードと判定する。
 以下に、関係性の具体例を説明する。
 携帯端末100は、手書き入力モードと判定する場合の関係性を第1関係情報19とし、画面操作モードと判定する場合の関係性を第2関係情報20として、第2記憶部13に格納する。
 第1関係情報19および第2関係情報20の第1の例を説明する。第1関係情報19は、算出されたディスプレイ6上の視線の位置が、検出されたディスプレイ6上のタッチ操作の位置を基準とした所定の範囲を示す情報と、タッチ操作の移動方向の所定の範囲を示す情報を含む。算出された視線の位置が、第1関係情報19のいずれかに該当する場合は、モード判定部11は、手書き入力モードと判定する。検出されたディスプレイ6上のタッチ操作の位置を基準とした所定の範囲は、例えば、ユーザがタッチ操作の位置を見た場合に視線が分散する範囲を想定して決定される。また、タッチ操作の移動方向の所定の範囲は、タッチ操作によって検出される複数のタッチから予測される移動方向に基づいて、視線が分散する範囲を想定して決定される。
 第2関係情報20は、算出されたディスプレイ6上の視線の位置が、検出されたディスプレイ6上のタッチ操作の移動方向に基づいて、移動方向と反対側の所定の範囲を示す情報である。タッチ操作の移動方向に対して、タッチ操作開始から所定時間内に検出された視線が、タッチ操作の始点から所定の範囲内に多い(例えば、70%以上)場合、画面操作とする。
 第1関係情報19および第2関係情報20の第2の例を説明する。第1関係情報19は、タッチ操作開始から所定時間内に算出された視線の位置の移動が、タッチ操作の移動に伴い検出されるタッチの位置に追従するか否かを判定する情報である。モード判定部11は、算出された視線の位置が、タッチ操作の位置に追従していると判定された場合、手書き入力モードと判定する。具体的には、モード判定部11は、当該第1関係情報19を用いて、所定時間間隔で検出されるタッチ操作の位置それぞれに対し、検出された第1のタッチ操作が行われた場合、第1のタッチ操作が行われた時刻から所定の期間内にタッチ操作の位置から所定範囲内に算出された視線の位置が存在するか判定する。さらに、モード判定部11は、当該第1関係情報19を用いて、第1のタッチ操作に連続して検出される第2のタッチ操作が行われた場合、第2のタッチ操作が行われた時刻から所定の期間内に第2のタッチ座標から所定範囲内に算出された視線の位置が存在する場合、視線がタッチ操作に追従していると判定し、手書き入力モードと判定する。
 第2関係情報20は、タッチ操作開始から所定時間内に検出された視線の位置の移動が、タッチ操作の移動に対して逆行するか否かを判定する情報である。モード判定部11は、算出された視線の位置の移動が、タッチ操作の移動に逆行していると判定された場合、画面操作モードと判定する。
 第1関係情報19および第2関係情報20の第3の例を説明する。第1関係情報19は、タッチ操作と視線の位置の移動を、直線近似を用いて比較する際に、近似しているか否かの判定に用いる情報である。モード判定部11は、検出されたタッチ操作の複数の位置の座標を用いて直線近似を行い、直線の傾きを算出する。モード判定部11は、算出された視線の複数の位置の座標を用いて直線近似を行い、直線の傾きを算出する。モード判定部11は、それぞれの傾きの差分が第1関係情報19で示した近似の範囲内であるか否かを判定し、それぞれの傾きの差分が当該範囲内である場合、手書き入力モードと判定する。ここで、直線近似を行う際に、複数の位置の座標を一定期間ごとに平均を算出し、平均を算出した座標群に対して、直線近似を行うこととしてもよい。
 第2関係情報20は、タッチ操作位置の移動から直線近似を用いて算出された直線から所定の範囲を示す情報である。所定の範囲とは、最後に検出されたタッチ操作の位置よりも前の直線から視線が分散すると想定される範囲である。モード判定部11は、算出された視線の位置が当該第2関係情報20に該当する場合に、画面操作モードと判定する。
 (視線位置算出処理)
 ここで、図4、図5を用いて、視線位置算出処理について詳細に説明する。図4は、視線位置算出処理の一例を示す図である。図5は、眼の特徴量検出の一例を示す図である。
 視線位置算出部18は、図4に示すように、ディスプレイ6上のユーザの視線の位置26を算出する。視線位置算出部18は、カメラ9を用いて画像取得部17によって取得した撮影画像から、光源8からの赤外線27が照射されたユーザの視線の位置26を算出することができる。
 カメラ9と光源8は、ユーザの眼28を撮影可能な位置、例えば、ディスプレイ6の周縁部の上側付近に設けられる。光照射部16は、ディスプレイ6を見るユーザの顔に赤外線27を照射する。カメラ9は、ユーザの顔を撮影範囲29に含むようにして撮影する。カメラ9は、ユーザの眼28を撮影することができる。
 視線位置算出部18は、カメラ9が撮影した撮影画像を取得する。視線位置算出部18は、取得した撮影画像から画像処理により、瞳孔30と光源8からの照射光である赤外線27が眼球表面で反射した角膜反射像31を抽出し、ユーザの眼28の特徴量を検出する。
 図5に、ユーザの眼28とディスプレイ6との距離や、ユーザの視線の角度を算出するための、眼の特徴量検出の一例を示す。
 図5に示すように、視線位置算出部18は、撮影画像から左眼32と右眼33の両眼距離(瞳孔間距離)34を取得し、ユーザの眼28とディスプレイ6の表示面との距離を取得する。視線位置算出部18は、撮影画像における瞳孔間の画素数から、ユーザの眼28とディスプレイ6の表示面との距離を計算することができる。一般に、左眼32と右眼33の両眼距離(瞳孔間距離)34は、成人の場合において、約65mm(62mmから68mm程度)である。なお、ユーザの眼28とディスプレイ6の表示面との距離は、標準的な姿勢に基づく固定値としてもよいし、ユーザに応じた設定値としてもよい。また、視線位置算出部18は、赤外線27の反射光の強度に基づいて、撮影画像からユーザの眼28とディスプレイ6の表示面との距離を取得してもよい。
 視線位置算出部18は、ユーザの眼28の少なくとも一方について、瞳孔30と角膜反射像31の水平方向の距離(瞳孔・反射間水平距離)35と、瞳孔30と角膜反射像31の垂直方向の距離(瞳孔・反射間垂直距離)36とを計算することができる。視線位置算出部18は、カメラ9、光源8、およびディスプレイ6との位置関係を既知とすることができる。視線位置算出部18は、カメラ9、光源8、およびディスプレイ6との位置関係を、例えば、固定値としてもよいし、設定値としてもよい。視線位置算出部18は、瞳孔・反射間水平距離35と瞳孔・反射間垂直距離36から視線の角度を算出する。
 視線位置算出部18は、算出した視線の角度と、ユーザの眼28とディスプレイ6の表示面との距離とから、ディスプレイ6上のユーザの視線の位置26を算出することができる。
 (モード判定処理)
 具体的なモード判定処理について、図6を用いて説明する。図6は、第1の実施形態に係る携帯端末100のモード判定処理のフローチャートの一例である。
 携帯端末100のモード判定部11は、上述した第1関係情報19および第2関係情報20を用いて手書き入力モードか画面操作モードかを判定する。
 モード判定部11は、タッチパネル7へのタッチ操作をタッチ操作検出部15から取得する(S001)。
 モード判定部11は、取得したタッチ操作がどのような種類のタッチ操作か判定する(S002)。タッチ操作の種類としては、2点でタッチされて画面を回転させるローテート、2点でタッチされて画面の縮小拡大を行うピンチ、1点でタッチされて選択画像などを選択するタップ操作、1点でタッチされて、連続的にタッチ操作の位置が移動するタッチ操作(画面や入力対象の移動を行うスワイプまたは手書き入力に該当)などがある。
 モード判定部11は、ステップS002で判定されたタッチ操作が、連続的にタッチ操作の位置が移動するタッチ操作(画面や入力対象の移動を行うスワイプまたは手書き入力)であるかを判定する(S003)。ステップS003において、タッチ操作が連続的にタッチ操作の位置移動するタッチ操作である場合(S003:Yes)、視線位置算出部18は、上述の視線位置算出処理により、ユーザの視線の位置を算出する(S004)。一方、ステップS003において、タッチ操作が連続的にタッチ操作の位置移動するタッチ操作でない場合(S003:No)、再度ステップS001でタッチ操作を取得することを待機する。
 モード判定部11は、ステップS004における視線位置検出処理によって算出されたティスプレイ6上の視線の位置と、タッチ操作の位置とを比較する(S005)。
 モード判定部11は、視線の位置とタッチ操作の位置との比較結果が、上述の第1関係情報19に該当するか否かを判定する(S006)。
 視線の位置とタッチ操作の位置との比較結果が、上述の第1関係情報19に該当すると判定された場合(S006:Yes)、モード判定部11は、操作モードを手書き入力モードと判定し、手書き入力モードへ切り替える(S007)。現状の操作モードが手書き入力モードである場合は、そのままとする。
 視線の位置とタッチ操作の位置との比較結果が、上述の第1関係情報19に該当しないと判定された場合(S006:No)、モード判定部11は、視線の位置とタッチ操作の位置との比較結果が、上述の第2関係情報20に該当するか否かを判定する(S008)。
 視線の位置とタッチ操作の位置との比較結果が、上述の第2関係情報20に該当すると判定された場合(S008:Yes)、モード判定部11は、操作モードを画面操作モードと判定し、画面操作モードへ切り替える(S009)。現状の操作モードが画面操作モードである場合は、そのままとする。一方、視線の位置とタッチ操作の位置との比較結果が、上述の第2関係情報20に該当しないと判定された場合(S008:No)、モード判定部11は、現状の操作モードからの切り替えを行なわず、再度ステップS001でタッチ操作を取得することを待機する。
 第1の実施形態のモード判定方法によれば、タッチ操作を行った際に、タッチ操作と有意な関係性を有する視線の位置を用いることによって、ユーザの意図するモードを判定することができるため、ユーザがタッチ操作によって操作する際の操作性を向上させることができる。
 第1の実施形態では、電子機器として例えばスマートフォンやタブレットコンピュータ等の携帯端末100に適用するとしているが、これに限定されるものではなく、電子機器として例えばデスクトップコンピュータ等にも適用することができる。

Claims (10)

  1. タッチ操作により手書き入力が行われる手書き入力モードと、タッチ操作により画面の操作が行われる画面操作モードとを有する電子機器であって、
    前記タッチ操作が行われるディスプレイと、
    前記タッチ操作の位置を検出するタッチ操作検出部と、
    前記ディスプレイ上のユーザの視線の位置を算出する視線位置算出部と、
    前記算出された視線の位置と前記検出されたタッチ操作の位置との関係に基づき、前記手書き入力モードか前記画面操作モードかを判定するモード判定部と
    を備えることを特徴とする電子機器。
     
  2. 前記モード判定部は、
    前記算出された視線の位置が、前記検出されたタッチ操作の位置を基準とした第1の範囲に存在する、または前記検出されたタッチ操作の移動方向に対して第2の範囲に存在する場合、前記手書き操作モードと判定することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の電子機器。
     
  3. 前記第1の範囲および前記第2の範囲は、ユーザが前記タッチ操作の位置を見たときに視線の位置が分散する範囲に基づいて設定されることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の電子機器。
     
  4. 前記モード判定部は、
    前記算出された視線の位置が、前記検出されたタッチ操作の移動方向に対して、反対側の所定の範囲に存在する場合、前記画面操作モードと判定することを特徴とする請求項1~3のいずれか一項に記載の電子機器。
     
  5. 前記モード判定部は、
    前記算出された視線の位置の移動が、前記検出されたタッチ操作の移動方向に対して追従すると判定される場合、前記手書き操作モードと判定することを特徴とする請求項1~4のいずれか一項に記載の電子機器。
     
  6. 前記モード判定部は、
    前記算出された視線の位置の移動が、前記検出されたタッチ操作の移動方向に対して逆行すると判定される場合、前記画面操作モードと判定することを特徴とする請求項1~5のいずれか一項に記載の電子機器。
     
  7. 前記モード判定部は、
    複数の前記算出された視線の位置から算出された第1の近似直線の傾きと、複数の前記検出されたタッチ操作の位置から算出された第2の近似直線の傾きとを比較し、前記第1の近似直線の傾きと前記第2の近似直線の傾きとの差分が所定値以下である場合、前記手書き操作モードと判定することを特徴とする請求項1~6のいずれか一項に記載の電子機器。
     
  8. 前記視線位置算出部は、
    前記ユーザの眼を含む撮影画像を取得し、
    前記取得した撮影画像から、前記視線の角度を算出し、
    前記算出された視線の角度と、前記ユーザの眼と前記ディスプレイとの距離とに基づき、前記ディスプレイ上のユーザの視線の位置を算出することを特徴とする請求項1~7のいずれか一項に記載の電子機器。
     
  9. タッチ操作により手書き入力が行われる手書き入力モードと、タッチ操作により画面の操作が行われる画面操作モードとを有する電子機器のモード判定方法であって、
    ディスプレイ上の前記タッチ操作の位置を検出し、
    前記ディスプレイ上のユーザの視線の位置を算出し、
    前記算出された視線の位置と前記検出されたタッチ操作の位置との関係に基づき、前記手書き入力モードか前記画面操作モードかを判定する
    ことを特徴とするモード判定方法。
     
  10. タッチ操作により手書き入力が行われる手書き入力モードと、タッチ操作により画面の操作が行われる画面操作モードとを有する電子機器に用いるモード判定プログラムであって、
    ディスプレイ上の前記タッチ操作の位置を検出し、
    前記ディスプレイ上のユーザの視線の位置を算出し、
    前記算出された視線の位置と前記検出されたタッチ操作の位置との関係に基づき、前記手書き入力モードか前記画面操作モードかを判定する
    ことを特徴とするモード判定プログラム。
