Definitions
- Meta-materials are artificial materials with physical properties superior to natural materials. "META” is a Greek prefix meaning “beyond” or "a level above”, as in metaphysics or metalogy. The most interesting property for meta-materials is that they can have a negative refractive index (n ⁇ 0). This property is extremely interesting in practice for certain applications in optics and microwave or microwave electronics. Among these applications include the possibility of rendering invisible objects by covering them with a layer of negative refractive index meta-material since that will not reflect the light rays falling on it "meta-materialcloaking". Another very important application for the field of telecommunication systems and radar systems is based on the fact that antenna gain can be dramatically increased by placing one or more layers of metamaterials at their proximity.
- the meta-materials are constituted by periodic structures whose base element is a resonant metallic structure which confers them these properties of interest in a very narrow band of frequency.
- This invention consists of a new design of the basic element structure (Figure 1) of the active meta-material over a very wide frequency band for applications in the field of telecommunication antennas and radar systems operating in a band frequency between 6.5 and 16.5 GHz ( Figure 2).

Abstract
Description
