- MTC is a data communication service that does not require human involvement.
- Large-scale MTC user set The deployment can be used in security, tracking, payment, measurement, and consumer electronics.
- Applications include video surveillance, supply chain tracking, smart meters, and remote monitoring.
- MTC user equipment requires lower power consumption, supports lower data transmission rates and lower mobility.
- the LTE system is mainly aimed at human-to-human (H2H) communication services. Therefore, the key to achieving the scale competitive advantage and application prospect of MTC services lies in the fact that LTE networks support MTC devices with low cost and low complexity.
- MTC user equipment needs to be installed in the basement of the residential building or protected by insulated foil, metal window or thick wall of traditional buildings, compared to conventional equipment terminals (such as mobile phones, tablets, etc.) in LTE networks.
- the air interface will obviously suffer more severe penetration losses.
- 3GPP decided to study the scheme design and performance evaluation of LTE network to provide additional 20dB coverage enhancement service to MTC user equipment. It is worth noting that MTC user equipment located in poor network coverage area has such characteristics: very low data transmission rate, very loose Delay requirements, as well as limited mobility.
- the LTE network can further optimize some signaling and/or channels to support the MTC user equipment.
- 3GPP requires certain LTE network coverage enhancements for newly defined MTC user equipment and other user equipment running MTC services (eg, very relaxed delay requirements), where a 15 dB network is provided for LTE Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) networks. Coverage enhancement. In addition, not all user devices that use MTC services require the same network coverage enhancement.
- LTE network coverage enhancements for newly defined MTC user equipment and other user equipment running MTC services (eg, very relaxed delay requirements), where a 15 dB network is provided for LTE Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) networks. Coverage enhancement.
- FDD Frequency Division Duplex
- the data channel is 1.4 MHz (ie, 6 resource blocks RB, Resource Block), the control channel can still access the entire downlink system bandwidth, and the RF link part remains unchanged. Change, that is, to access the entire system bandwidth; for the uplink, the baseband part and the radio part remain unchanged.
- the receiving antenna of the MTC user equipment is a single antenna, and the largest uplink transmission module and the downlink transmission module are both 1000 bits.
- the coverage enhancement design and configuration of the physical layer channel such as PDCCH/PDSCH/PUCCH/PUSCH is a work that needs to be standardized, and is completed according to the discussion of the 3GPP RAN1#74 conference.
- any physical channel that needs to be transmitted repeatedly depends on the base station (eNodeB).
- eNodeB base station
- the discussion of the 3GPP RAN2 #85 conference pointed out that for the MTC user equipment to be in the coverage enhancement mode, the support network side initiates paging information (Paging) to it. Obviously these paging messages need to be transmitted repeatedly on the physical channel.
- paging transmission is divided into two parts: the mobility management entity (MME: Mobility Management Entity) and the S1AP between the base stations.
- MME Mobility Management Entity
- S1AP interface information transmission and physical layer information air interface transmission between the base station and the user equipment.
- the mobility management entity initiates a paging process using paging information (Paging) for each base station, and each paging information carries information of a paged user equipment.
- Paging paging information
- the base station interprets the content, obtains a tracking area identifier (TAI) of the user equipment, and performs paging of the air interface under the cell belonging to the tracking area in the list.
- TAI tracking area identifier
- the base station Since the base station does not know whether the MTC user equipment that it pages is in the coverage enhancement mode, in order to ensure that the MTC user equipment under the coverage enhancement can correctly receive the paging information, the base station needs to repeat all the messages on the air interface. call. This can lead to a great waste of spectrum resources. Therefore, in the fifth version (Release 12 or Rel-12) and later versions, the paging mechanism for the MTC user equipment in the coverage enhancement mode needs to be re-standardized.
- the present invention proposes a paging message transmission and/or reception method and implementation for an MTC user equipment (including user equipment and other user equipments that perform delay tolerant MTC services and require certain network coverage enhancement).
- the signaling interaction process between the user equipment and the base station and/or the network side required by the method is not limited to MTC user equipment.
