Abstract

Launching apparatus (1) for introducing a pig into a pipe (15). The apparatus (1) has a chamber (9) for holding the pig. The chamber (9) has an opening permitting access to the chamber (9) from outside the launching apparatus (1). The launching apparatus (1) further has connection means (13) for connecting the launching apparatus (1) to an open end (5) of a pipe. The apparatus (1) is connectable to the pipe (15) such that the open end of the pipe (5) is accessible from the chamber (9) via the opening of the chamber so that a pig can be introduced into the pipe (15) from the chamber (9). The launching apparatus (1) may be used to launch a pig into a broken section of subsea pipeline so that the pipeline can be dewatered by the pig and recovered to a vessel.
