Abstract

An encoder and a method of operating an encoder is provided. The disclosed encoder includes a focus lens having one or more position sensors that enable the focus lens to maintain a focusing position, even when the focus lens is not focused on a writing media. The one or more position sensors enable the encoder to continue its encoding process without having to process a full focus acquisition each time the focus lens returns to the writing media.
