Title
Emotional Processing Tool Kit
Background & Solving Current Issues and Probiems
For many children, youth and adults, they simply do not have the tools, expertise or resources to support them in the way they need as they face emotional, learning, cognitive, biological and physical issues and challenges in their lives. As a play therapist, therapist/counsellor, organisations and parents ask for tools and ideas that support individual's resiliency and increase their own ability to face their lives and issues in a strength-based and creative approach; both during and after therapy as well as for those outside of therapy. In my search there were individual components used in play therapy such as art supplies, musical instruments, clay, toys, and sensory tools; however there was not a toot or kit that packaged these components together. Additionally there was not a product or tool that gave proper instruction and information for both the user as well as the facilitators including but not limited to parents, counsellors, teachers and organisations. Those that were approaching me knew that play therapy and expressive therapies worked, but wanted a tool that could condense the theoretical and practical frameworks in a user-friendly way that translated the emotional, social, biological, and neurological benefits in accessible way.
As such I created the Emotional Processing Tool Kit . The Emotional Processing Tool Kit is a kit that allows children, youth and adults to work out their emotions, thoughts, issues, experiences and reactions in an autonomous way. In this humanistic approach, the individual user is allowed to work at a pace and in a way that is safe and relevant for them. This includes giving context to a person's ethnicity, culture, education, cognitive and emotional development, as well as biological or physical issues or diagnosis.
Intended Uses and Examples
This kit is designed to be utilised by all ages, in many different environments, while being supported by a range of people, expertise, and backgrounds. For example, The Emotional Processing Tool Kit may be used in homes by carers and parents with their children for specific issues or simply to support positive emotional processing and neurological development; for all ages in facing fearful situations or environments; in schools, daycares, universities or other educational facilities by teachers, guidance counsellors or educational support staff; by social workers or therapists in a therapeutic space, in sessions with clients, or as a transitional tool between sessions, during absences, or after therapy; in hospitals with children facing illness or treatment, or for children whose family is ill or hospitalised; in health care
offices or waiting rooms such as dentists, physiotherapists, and doctors; in domestic violence shelters or crises centres by staff and counsellors with victims and clients, as a play aid for underprivileged populations or for those who do not have regular access to play facilities or activities; in emergency, crises and disaster zones such as war or natural disasters as earthquakes, fires or floods by both the victims as well as helpers in protecting them against such harm as vicarious trauma.
