Description

"Eyeglass structure"
DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to an eyeglass structure as defined in the preamble of claim 1.
As used herein, the term eyeglasses is intended to designate sunglasses, prescription glasses, which can compensate for refractive errors of the eye, as well as protective glasses, that can protect the eyes from external agents. Nevertheless, reference will be made hereinafter, by way of example and without limitation, to sunglasses.
In addition to effectively shield and protect the eyes from sun rays, eyeglasses are also fashion articles. The shape and color of the frame have a crucial effect to change/complement the complexion of the wearer's face, and a number of different frame models are available, which may have substantially changing shapes and colors.
At present, the need is strongly felt by sunglass or prescription glass wearers, of coordinating the eyeglass structure, particularly the frame, with their own look, and adapt it day by day to the type ad color of their clothes.
This need can be currently only fulfilled by the provision of a plurality- of different models of eyeglass structures, differing in shape and/or color, for selection every day.
The object of the present invention is to provide an eyeglass structure that can fulfill the above mentioned need of wearers, without reguiring the provision of different eyeglass models.
This object is fulfilled by an eyeglass structure as defined in claim 1.
The idea behind the present invention is to equip the eyeglass structure of the present invention with a cover that can be replaced as needed to substantially change the appearance of the eyeglass structure, in terms of color and/or shape.
Further features and advantages of the eyeglass structure of the present invention will be apparent upon reading of the following description of one preferred embodiment thereof, which is given by way of illustration and without limitation with reference to the accompanying figures, in which:
- Figure 1 shows a front plan view of the eyeglass structure of the invention;
Figure 2 shows a rear plan view of the eyeglass structure of Figure 1;
Figure 3 shows a side plan view of the eyeglass structure of Figure 1; - Figure 4 shows a plan view of the eyeglass structure of Figure 1;
- Figure 5 shows a sectional view, taken along line VIII - VIII of Figure 4, of an enlarged detail of the eyeglass structure of Figure 1;
- Figure ' 6 shows a perspective exploded view of the lens-supporting frame and the peripheral adapter of the eyeglass structure of Figure 1;
Figure 7 shows a front plan view of a peripheral adapter element of the eyeglass structure of Figure 1 and
- Figures 8 and 9 show two perspective views of the peripheral adapter of Figure 7, as taken from different points of view.
Referring to the figures, numeral 1 generally designates an eyeglass structure of the present invention .
The eyeglass structure 1 comprises a lens supporting frame comprising:
- a frame front 2 comprising at least one lens- housing seat 3 in which a respective lens 4 is inserted and supported, a bridge 5 intended to overlie the nose of a wearer and two side endpieces 6 for connection to temples and
- two temples 7 connected to said endpieces 6 of the frame front 2,
wherein the eyeglass structure 1 comprises a respective lens 4 housed and supported in the above mentioned at least one lens-housing seat 3.
According to the invention:
- said respective lens 4 is smaller than its respective lens-housing seat 3 such that it can be accommodated with a peripheral clearance in said respective lens-housing seat 3 and
- said respective lens 4 is housed and fixed in the respective lens-housing seat 3 by means of the interposition of a respective peripheral adapter element 8.
It shall be noted that, according to the preferred embodiment as shown in the figures, in the eyeglass structure 1 of the invention:
- said at last one lens-housing seat 3 comprises two distinct lens-holding seats separated by the bridge 5 of the frame front 2 and
- a respective lens 4 is housed and supported in each of said lens-holding seats 3 with the interposition of a respective peripheral adapter element 8.
In short, the preferred embodiment of the invention as shown in the figures relates to an eyeglass structure whose frame is designed to accommodate two distinct lenses, one for the right eye and one for the left eye. In any case, the invention can also relate to an eyeglass structure whose frame is designed to accommodate a single lens, substantially extending from the right endpiece to the left endpiece of the frame front.
The frame front 2 defines an inner side which is intended to face toward the face of the wearer of said eyeglass structure 1 and an opposite outer side.
Each respective lens-housing seat 3 defines an inner peripheral edge.
Each respective lens 4 has an outer peripheral edge .
Preferably:
- each respective peripheral adapter element 8 has a ring shape, that can encircle the outer peripheral edge of its respective lens 4 ;
- each respective peripheral adapter element 8 has an inner peripheral edge joined by a holding mating form fit to the outer peripheral edge of its respective . lens 4, for removably holding said respective lens 4 (as shown in the section of Figure 6 ) and
- each respective peripheral adapter element 8 has an outer peripheral edge joined by a holding mating form fit to the inner peripheral edge of its respective lens-housing seat 3, such that it is rigidly connected in removable manner to said frame front 2 (as shown in the section of Figure 6) .
Preferably :
- each respective peripheral adapter element 8 is inserted in its respective lens-housing seat 3 starting from the above mentioned outer side of the frame front 2 and, at the same time,
- each respective peripheral adapter element 8 comprises an outer peripheral flange 9 which limits the depth at which the respective peripheral adapter element 8 can be inserted into its respective lens- housing seat 3 of the frame front 2 (as shown in the section of Figure 6) .
As shown in the annexed figures, when each respective peripheral adapter element 8 is fully inserted in its respective lens-housing seat 3, the above mentioned outer peripheral flange 9 abuts and partially overlaps the outer side of the frame front
2.
Particularly, as shown in Figure 1, the above mentioned outer peripheral flange 9 of each peripheral adapter element 8 laterally projects out of the outer peripheral edge of the peripheral adapter element 8 to overlap and cover a prevailing portion of the frame front 2. Thus, the outer peripheral flange 9 of each respective peripheral adapter element 8 defines a cover that can overlap and cover the underlying portion of the frame front 2 which lies under such flange, thereby substantially changing the appearance of the frame front side of the eyeglass structure 1.
It will be appreciated that, by changing the shape and/or color of the outer peripheral flange 9 of each peripheral adapter element 8, the appearance of the frame front side of the eyeglass structure 1 is also changed, particularly as regards color. For example, this allows a user of the eyeglass structure of the invention to change the color of the eyeglass frame front of the invention to match it with the color of his/her clothes and/or the color of his/her bag, purse, shoes, scarf, tie, etc. Advantageously, this may be achieved by simply replacing the peripheral adapter element 8 through which each lens 4 is removably supported/fixed in its respective lens-housing seat 3 of the frame front 2.
Preferably, each respective peripheral adapter element 8 defines a closed annular structure which completely encircles said respective lens 4, although an open-ring peripheral adapter element may be also provided, which can encircle a portion of the perimeter of the lens 4 only.
Preferably, each respective peripheral adapter element 8 is made of a plastic material, such as methacrylate , polycarbonate, plexiglas, ABS, PET-G and GRILAMID TR90.
According to the illustrated embodiment, each temple is connected to a respective endpiece 6 of the frame front 2 using hinge connection means.
According to a preferred embodiment, each temple 7 comprises a first portion 7a connected to a respective endpiece of the frame front 2 and a second portion 7b which forms an extension of said first portion 7a and is connected to said first portion 7a of the temple in removable and interchangeable manner. This allows the temples of the eyeglass structure 1 to be interchanged with other temples, supplied in the kit or purchased at a later time.
Preferably, the first portion 7a and the second portion 7b of each temple 7 are connected to each other by snap connection means including a slot 10 and a retaining tab 11.
According to a further aspect, the present invention also relates to a kit which comprises a package containing an eyeglass structure 1 of the present invention as described above, as well as an additional peripheral adapter element 8, preferably at least a pair of additional adapter elements 8 to be applied to the frame front 2 instead of the peripheral adapter elements 8 that were already applied to change the appearance of the front of the eyeglass structure 1 of the invention.
As described above, the appearance of the eyeglass structure 1 may be further changed using additional temples with different shapes and/or colors .
It will be appreciated from the above description that the eyeglass structure of the invention can fulfill the above mentioned need while allowing shape and/or color customization, by simple replacement of the peripheral adapter elements with other peripheral adapter elements, supplied in the kit of the eyeglass structure of the invention or to be purchased at a later time.
A further advantage of the eyeglass structure of the invention lies in its flexible configuration, as well as in the firm support of the interchangeable lenses by the frame front. Those skilled in the art will obviously appreciate that a number of changes and adaptations may be made to the eyeglass structure of the invention as described hereinbefore, and that its elements may be replaced by other functionally equivalent elements, without departure from the scope defined by the following claims.
