Abstract
Disclosed herein is an air dehumidification system, the system that has a negative pressure source; a conduit that directs at least part of an air flow, the conduit having an inlet and an outlet; and at least one water vapour permeable membrane having a first face and a second face, where the membrane forms at least part of the conduit and/or the membrane is disposed within the conduit, but allows air to flow to the outlet, where the first face of the membrane is in direct contact with the air flow and the second face is in fluid communication with the negative pressure source, and the air flow is uncompressed air. Also disclosed is a process to dehumidify air using said system and a water vapour permeable membrane for dehumidifying air, the membrane having a first face and a second face, the membrane includes a substrate coated with at least one microporous or mesoporous layer of a porous ceramic material, wherein the average pore size is from 0.5 to 10 nm.
