- the substantially planar elements are formed of metal plates. In this way they will not lose structural integrity when used as a campfire and will be able to contain the fire therebetween,
- substantially planar elements being metal plates of structural integrity is that they will therefore be solid self-supporting plates that can stand on their edges and not require a frame or skeleton to support the structure.
- camp fireplace comprising a plurality of substantially planar elements do not have extensive related framework and can. be folded or hinged or disassembled to their minimal volume by being able to be fla packed.
- a camp fireplace has at least 3 of the plurality of substantiall planar elements 22, 23 and 24 which are hinged to each other to form a self-supporting shape when in use.
- the self- supporting shape is a self-supporting inverted U-shape when in use by having the connected at least 3 of the plurality of substantially planar elements hinged to each other to form the self-supporting inverted U-shape, central one of the connected a least 3 of the plurality of substantially planar elements forms a shallow U-shape central plate 25 formed by top plate 24 and two small side frame members 27 and 28.

- This can include tracks 45 and 46 on inner rear side of side plates 22, 23 that hold either end of a handled rod 45 that extends between the two side panels 22, 23.
- the locking can be due to a cam structure or corresponding track and rod on inner side of rear plate 21 or end connections of the handled rod 45 having entrapping U-shape fitting on both sides of the tear panel 21. Since the handled rod 45 begins travel as shown in Figure 7 at the height of the shallow U-shape section 25 it need not engage or entrap the rear plate 2.1 until that plate is swung into substantially vertical alignment. At that time the handled rod 45 and engaging or entrapping parts can follow down both sides of the rear plate and provide locking position at the base as shown in Figure 8.
- camp fireplace 51 formed of a plurality of separate substantially planar elements 61., 62, and 63 so as to be able to be disassembled and flat, packed and which use hook and slot connection of separate plates 61 , 62, and 63.
