Abstract

A method of preparing a forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle, the method comprising the steps of: a) punching a first hole, a second hole and a third hole on a plate near a first end, second end and a central region of the plate; b) forging the plate to create a protruded slot around the third hole wherein the forging causes compression of the portion of the perimeter of the plate near the third hole; c) fixing the forged plate in position by inserting extended arms of a stationary body into the first and second hole; and d) cutting the forged plate.

Description

A METHOD OF PREPARING A FORGED PLATE HAVING ANTIQUE APPEARANCE FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to the field of forged plates having antique appearance. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In the present art, there is a need for handle plates or plates fixed to a handle, having a spring effect, alongwith providing an antique appearance to the handle plate which may be obtained by forging.
The present invention in its various embodiments addresses the above and other possible needs of the currently used systems and methods relating to the field of forged plates having antique appearance.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention in a broad aspect provides a method of preparing a forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle, the method comprising the steps of:
a) punching a central hole on a plate in a central region of the plate between a first end and a second end of the plate;
b) forging the plate to create a protruded slot around the central hole such that the central hole acts as a front opening for the protruded slot, thereby creating a forged plate with the protruded slot, wherein the forging causes compression of the portion of the perimeter of the plate near the central hole;
c) fixing the forged plate in position such that the movement of plate is blocked in all directions; and d) cutting the forged plate such that the perimeter of the forged plate is cut in a manner so as to make the portion of the perimeter of the forged plate near the central hole not appear compressed in comparison to the remaining portion of the perimeter of the plate;
wherein the front opening of the protruded slot is capable of allowing a handle to be fixed to the forged plate at a front end of the plate; and
wherein the protruded slot is capable of housing a spring for operationally connecting the handle to the spring.

The present invention in a broad aspect provides a method of preparing a forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle, the method comprising the steps of:
a) punching a central hole on a plate in a central region of the plate between a first end and a second end of the plate;
b) forging the plate to create a protruded slot around the central hole such that the central hole acts as a front opening for the protruded slot, thereby creating a forged plate with the protruded slot, wherein the forging causes compression of the portion of the perimeter of the plate near the central hole; c) fixing the forged plate in position such that the movement of plate is blocked in all directions; and
d) cutting the forged plate such that the perimeter of the forged plate is cut in a manner so as to make the portion of the perimeter of the forged plate near the central hole not appear compressed in comparison to the remaining portion of the perimeter of the plate;
wherein the front opening of the protruded slot is capable of allowing a handle to be fixed to the forged plate at a front end of the plate; and
wherein the protruded slot is capable of housing a spring for operationally connecting the handle to the spring.
The present invention in a preferred embodiment provides a method of preparing a forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle, the method comprising the steps of:
a) punching a first hole on a plate near a first end of the plate;
b) punching a second hole on the plate near a second end of the plate;
c) punching a third hole on the plate in a central region of the plate between the first hole and the second hole;
d) forging the plate to create a protruded slot around the third hole such that the third hole acts as a front opening for the protruded slot, thereby creating a forged plate with the protruded slot, wherein the forging causes compression of the portion of the perimeter of the plate near the third hole;
e) fixing the forged plate in position by inserting extended arms of a stationary body into the first and second hole such that the movement of plate is blocked in all directions; and f) cutting the forged plate such that the perimeter of the forged plate is cut in a manner so as to make the portion of the perimeter of the forged plate near the third hole not appear compressed in comparison to the remaining portion of the perimeter of the plate;
wherein the front opening of the protruded slot is capable of allowing a handle to be fixed to the forged plate at a front end of the plate; and
wherein the protruded slot is capable of housing a spring for operationally connecting the handle to the spring. In an embodiment of the invention, the forging of the plate to create the protruded slot provides an antique appearance to the forged handle plate.
In an embodiment of the invention, the method of preparing forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle, further comprises the steps of:
a) fixing a handle to the forged plate at a front end of the forged plate through the front opening of the protruded slot; and
b) placing a spring within the protruded slot and operationally connecting the spring to the handle and fixing the spring in position by at least one fixing component;
wherein rotational movement of the handle from an original position in any direction is subject to a torsional spring effect due to said spring such that the spring effect brings back the handle in the original position.
In an embodiment of the invention, the at least one fixing component is any suitable fastener.
In an embodiment of the invention, the at least one fixing component is a circlip.
In an embodiment of the invention, the at least one fixing component is a washer.
In an embodiment of the invention, the at least one fixing component is attached to a washer.
In an embodiment of the invention, the at least one fixing component is also capable of fixing the handle in position.
In an embodiment of the invention, the method of preparing a forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle, further comprises the step of:
cutting a groove on the surface of the back end of the forged plate along the protruded slot such that the rotational movement of the fixing component is restricted to the perimeter of the groove. In an embodiment of the invention, the method of preparing a forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle, further comprises the step of:
cutting a groove on the surface of the back end of the forged plate along the protruded slot such that the rotational movement of the washer is restricted to the circumference of the groove and consequently the rotational movement of the handle is restricted to the same angle as that of the washer.
In an embodiment of the invention, the rotational movement of the fixing component or washer is restricted to the circumference of the groove by aligning an extended portion of the fixing component or washer in the groove such that the edges of the groove obstruct further movement of the extended portion of the fixing component or washer.
In accordance with an exemplary embodiment of this invention, FIGURE 1 represents a exploded & schematic view of the 'forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle', wherein forged plate 50 comprising the protruded slot 70 is capable of housing a fixing component 10, a spring 20, a washer 30 with restricted movement and a circlip 40, and wherein the fixing components together are capable of fixing a handle 80 to the forged plate at the protruded slot. The protrusion 70' of the forged plate 50 is visible on the opposite side of the forged plate from that comprising of the fixing components.
In accordance with an exemplary embodiment of this invention, FIGURE 2 represents an illustration of the handle 80 which is attached to the forged plate 50 at the protruded slot 70, wherein the point of attachment of the handle 80 is at the protrusion 70'. The fixed end of the handle 80' is attached at the protrusion 70' of the forged plate 50. The free-end 80" of the handle 80 can be used for operating the present invention.
In accordance with an exemplary embodiment of this invention, FIGURE 3 illustrates the perspective view of the assembled structure of FIGURE 1, wherein the protruded slot 70 housing the different fixing components, wherein the washer 30 and the circlip 40 are visible along with the groove 70 A of the protruded slot 70. In accordance with an exemplary embodiment of this invention, FIGURE 4 illustrates a transverse cross-sectional view of the protruded slot, wherein two compartments, inner compartment of smaller diameter 11 than an outer compartment of bigger diameter 12 is visible.
In an embodiment of the invention, the step of cutting a groove may be done by any suitable cutter or cutting mechanism.

In an embodiment of the invention, a forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle, prepared by the method of the present invention comprises
a) a first hole near a first end of the plate;
b) a second hole near a second end of the plate; and
c) a protruded slot around a third hole such that the third hole acts as a front opening for the protruded slot, wherein the third hole on a plate in a central region of the plate between the first hole and the second hole;
wherein the portion of the perimeter of the forged plate near the third hole do not appear compressed in comparison to the remaining portion of the perimeter of the plate
In an embodiment of the invention, a forged handle plate assembly having antique appearance comprises:
a) the forged handle plate having antique appearance;
b) a handle fixed to the to the forged plate at a front end of the forged plate through the front opening of the protruded slot;
c) a spring placed within the protruded slot and operationally connecting the spring to the handle;
d) a fixing component for fixing the spring in position; and e) a groove on the surface of the back end of the forged plate along the protruded slot such that the rotational movement of the fixing component is restricted to the circumference of the groove and consequently the rotational movement of the handle is restricted to the same angle as that of the fixing component.
In an embodiment of the invention, the forged plate may be cut in any desired shape.
In an embodiment of the invention, the forged plate may further comprise of a lock or locking system.
In an embodiment of the invention, the forged plate may be used as a part of a locking system.
In an embodiment of the invention, the forged plate has substantially linear lateral sides before the step of forging, wherein the step of forging causes compression of the portion of the lateral side of the forged plate near the third hole thereby making the lateral sides of the forged plate non linear, and wherein the step of cutting the forged plate makes the entire length of the lateral sides substantially linear.
In an embodiment of the invention, the front opening of the protruded slot can be widened.
The term lateral side for the purpose of this invention means the side of a plate along its length or its longer sides.
The term lateral sides and perimeter may be alternately used for the purpose of this invention when the shape of the plate is substantially polygonal other than a circle such as but not limited to triangle, square, rectangle, pentagon and hexagon.
The term punching a hole for the purpose of this invention means making a hole by any suitable means.
In an embodiment of the invention, the plate may be of any shape. In an embodiment of the invention, the plate may be made of any suitable material capable of changing shape by forging.
In an embodiment of the invention, the plate is made of Mild Steel.
In an embodiment of the invention, the plate is capable of having an alternative appearance selected from a set of but not limited to Ancient, rustic, antique, decorative, contemporary, modern or any combination thereof.

Claims

I Claim:
1) Method of preparing a forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle, comprising the steps of:
a) punching a central hole on a plate in a central region of the plate between a first end and a second end of the plate;
b) forging the plate to create a protruded slot around the central hole such that the central hole acts as a front opening for the protruded slot, thereby creating a forged plate with the protruded slot, wherein the forging causes compression of the portion of the perimeter of the plate near the central hole;
c) fixing the forged plate in position such that the movement of plate is blocked in all directions; and
d) cutting the forged plate such that the perimeter of the forged plate is cut in a manner so as to make the portion of the perimeter of the forged plate near the central hole not appear compressed in comparison to the remaining portion of the perimeter of the plate;
wherein the front opening of the protruded slot is capable of allowing a handle to be fixed to the forged plate at a front end of the plate; and
wherein the protruded slot is capable of housing a spring for operationally connecting the handle to the spring.
2) Method of preparing a forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle, comprising the steps of:
a) punching a first hole on a plate near a first end of the plate;
b) punching a second hole on the plate near a second end of the plate;
c) punching a third hole on the plate in a central region of the plate between the first hole and the second hole;
d) forging the plate to create a protruded slot around the third hole such that the third hole acts as a front opening for the protruded slot, thereby creating a forged plate with the protruded slot, wherein the forging causes compression of the portion of the perimeter of the plate near the third hole; e) fixing the forged plate in position by inserting extended arms of a stationary body into the first and second hole such that the movement of plate is blocked in all directions; and
f) cutting the forged plate such that the perimeter of the forged plate is cut in a manner so as to make the portion of the perimeter of the forged plate near the third hole not appear compressed in comparison to the remaining portion of the perimeter of the plate;
wherein the front opening of the protruded slot is capable of allowing a handle to be fixed to the forged plate at a front end of the plate; and
wherein the protruded slot is capable of housing a spring for operationally connecting the handle to the spring.
3) Method of preparing a forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle, as claimed in the preceding claims, wherein the forging of the plate to create the protruded slot provides an antique appearance to the forged handle plate.
4) Method of preparing a forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle, as claimed in the preceding claims, wherein the method further comprises the steps of:
a) fixing a handle to the forged plate at a front end of the forged plate through the front opening of the protruded slot; and
b) placing a spring within the protruded slot and operationally connecting the spring to the handle and fixing the spring in position by at least one fixing component;
wherein rotational movement of the handle from an original position in any direction is subject to a torsional spring effect due to said spring such that the spring effect brings back the handle in the original position.
5) Method of preparing a forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle, as claimed in the preceding claims, wherein the method further comprises the steps of: cutting a groove on the surface of the back end of the forged plate along the protruded slot such that the rotational movement of the fixing component is restricted to the perimeter of the groove.
Method of preparing a forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle, as claimed in the preceding claims, wherein the method further comprises the steps of:
cutting a groove on the surface of the back end of the forged plate along the protruded slot such that the rotational movement of the washer is restricted to the circumference of the groove and consequently the rotational movement of the handle is restricted to the same angle as that of the washer.
Method of preparing a forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle, as claimed in the preceding claims, wherein the rotational movement of the fixing component or washer is restricted to the circumference of the groove by aligning an extended portion of the fixing component or washer in the groove such that the edges of the groove obstruct further movement of the extended portion of the fixing component or washer.
A forged plate having antique appearance with a protruded slot capable of housing a spring and fixing to a handle, prepared by the method of the present invention comprises: a) a first hole near a first end of the plate;
b) a second hole near a second end of the plate; and
c) a protruded slot around a third hole such that the third hole acts as a front opening for the protruded slot, wherein the third hole on a plate in a central region of the plate between the first hole and the second hole;
wherein the portion of the perimeter of the forged plate near the third hole do not appear compressed in comparison to the remaining portion of the perimeter of the plate.
A forged handle plate assembly having antique appearance comprises:
a) the forged handle plate having antique appearance; b) a handle fixed to the to the forged plate at a front end of the forged plate through the front opening of the protruded slot;
c) a spring placed within the protruded slot and operationally connecting the spring to the handle;
d) a fixing component for fixing the spring in position; and
e) a groove on the surface of the back end of the forged plate along the protruded slot such that the rotational movement of the fixing component is restricted to the circumference of the groove and consequently the rotational movement of the handle is restricted to the same angle as that of the fixing component.
10) A forged plate, as claimed in the preceding claims, wherein the forged plate has substantially linear lateral sides before the step of forging, wherein the step of forging causes compression of the portion of the lateral side of the forged plate near the third hole thereby making the lateral sides of the forged plate non linear, and wherein the step of cutting the forged plate makes the entire length of the lateral sides substantially linear.
11) A forged plate, as claimed in the preceding claims, wherein the forged plate is cut in a desired shape.
12) A forged plate, as claimed in the preceding claims, wherein the forged plate is further comprise of a lock or locking system.
13) A forged plate, as claimed in the preceding claims, wherein the forged plate is used as a part of a locking system.
