Description
ROTATING-ARM AMUSEMENT RIDE
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to the technical sector concerning tourist attractions installed, for example, in fairgrounds. In particular, the invention relates to a rotating-arm tourist attraction for transport of persons.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART
A rotating-arm tourist attraction for transporting persons is known from document EP 0 500 184, and comprises: a support frame in contact with a ground surface; a rotating arm which is hinged to the support frame such as to rotate about a rotation axis; an actuator which is borne by the support frame; a driven cogwheel fixed to the rotating arm; a drive cogwheel which is drawn by the actuator which enmeshes with the driven cogwheel so as to transmit a torque that draws the rotating arm in rotation.
Research is at present centred on the design of rotating arms which can reach increasingly greater dimensions and speeds, with the aim of attracting a progressively more numerous public.
This poses a problem for safety. The most critical components are the gears, i.e. the drive cogwheel and the driven cogwheel. Damage which can happen with these components can relate to the breaking of cogs of the driven cogwheel or the cogs of the drive cogwheel. Normally this damage occurs when the rotating arm is functioning at a certain velocity and can lead to unforeseeable consequences - case histories show a wide range of ensuing problems.
One of the worst consequences that can occur following damage to the drive cogwheel is that the drive cogwheel remains enmeshed with the driven cogwheel: however, this prevents rotation of the driven cogwheel is
prevented from rotating even when there is torque from the actuator. In this case, it is not possible to bring the passengers to the ground and the firefighting services have to be called; this takes time during which the passengers are marooned on the tourist attraction (even possibly in a head-down position on certain rides) and this can cause panic and even illness. Further, in considerably large tourist attractions with rotating arms the arms of the crane mounted on-board firefighters' vehicles might not be sufficiently long, which further complicates the operations of bringing the passengers to safety. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The aim of the present invention consists in obviating the above-described drawbacks in relation to safety.
The above aim has been obtained with a rotating-arm tourist attraction for the transport of persons, in accordance with claim 1. The clutch coupling significantly reduces the probability of malfunctioning of the driven clutch wheel or one or more of the drive clutch wheels. Further, the faults that can occur cause consequences that fall into a limited range of case histories that constitute lower risk for the passengers and which do not require an external intervention (for example of the firefighters). In fact, the damaging of a drive clutch wheel enables the driven clutch wheel to rotate all the same (for example by dragging or even rolling between the two wheels): in this case, the actuator activating the drive clutch wheel that is damaged can be deactivated (so that the relative output shaft is "idle") and the other (or the other if there are only two) actuators remaining can be commanded to immediately return the passengers to the ground following a safety procedure.
A further fault can be determined by the damaging of the driven clutch wheel, in particular the deformation of the wheel: this enables, in any case, activation of a safety procedure so as to immediately bring the passengers
to the ground, as each drive clutch wheel can continue to transmit a corresponding drive torque to the driven clutch wheel.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Specific embodiments of the invention will be described in the following part of the present description, in accordance with what is set down in the claims and with the aid of the accompanying tables of drawings, in which:
- figures 1 , 2 respectively illustrate a front and lateral view of a rotating- arm tourist attraction for transporting persons, object of the present invention; - figure 3 is a larger-scale view of the detail K1 of figure 1 ;
- figure 4 is a larger-scale view of the detail K2 of figure 2.
DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
With reference to the accompanying tables of drawings, reference numeral (1) denotes in its entirety a rotating-arm tourist attraction for transporting persons, object of the present invention.
The rotating-arm (4) tourist attraction (1) comprises (figures 1-4): a support frame (2) that is in contact with the ground (3); a rotating arm (4) hinged to the support frame (2) such as to rotate about a rotation axis (A); a first plurality (15) of actuators (8), each of which is borne by the support frame (2) and delivers a drive torque; a driven clutch wheel (6) which is fixed to the rotating arm (4), which is concentric to the rotation axis (A) of the rotating arm (4) and which comprises a first rolling track (12) which is circular; a first plurality (16) of drive clutch wheels (7), each of which is drawn by an actuator (8) of the first plurality (15) of actuators (8) and is arranged such as to roll on the first rolling track (12), thus realising a clutch coupling with the driven clutch wheel (6) determining transmission of a drive torque to the driven clutch wheel (6).
Each drive clutch wheel (7) of the first plurality of drive clutch wheels (7) is preferably a tyre.
The consequences of a malfunctioning of a tyre are advantageously easily predictable: there is loss of adherence between the drive clutch wheel (7) and the driven clutch wheel (6). The cause of the malfunctioning might be an explosion of the type or a puncturing thereof.
When each drive clutch wheel (7) rolls on the first rolling track (12) of the driven clutch wheel (6), it exerts a drive force on the driven clutch wheel (6) at the contact region between the drive clutch wheel (7) and the driven clutch wheel (6).
The total torque applied to the rotating arm (4) therefore depends on the drive force exerted by each drive clutch wheel (7) and by the distance between the point of application of the drive force and the rotation axis of the rotating arm (4), which distance corresponds substantially to the radius of the driven clutch wheel (6).
Therefore given a same exerted drive force, in order to increase the overall torque it is necessary to use a driven clutch wheel (6) of greater dimensions, i.e. having a longer radius.
It is therefore preferable for the driven clutch wheel (6) to have a radius of at least four metres. The radius is still more preferably five metres.
With the increase in the dimensions of the driven clutch wheel (6), it becomes necessary to contain the weight, at the same time guaranteeing a sufficient rigidity of the driven clutch wheel (6). For this purpose, the rotating-arm (4) tourist attraction (1) can comprise a net structure (19) fixed to the driven clutch wheel (6) so as to provide rigidity to the driven clutch wheel (6) (figures 1 and 3). The net structure (19) can be fixed, for example, to the internal wall of the driven clutch wheel (6) at several points. In particular, the net structure (19) can be inscribed in the driven
clutch wheel (6).
Alternatively to the net structure (19), the rotating-wheel tourist attraction (1) can comprise a rigid disc fixed to the driven clutch wheel (6) so as to give rigidity to the driven clutch wheel (6) (this embodiment is not illustrated). The rigid disc can be fixed to the internal wall of the driven clutch wheel (6). Further, the rigid disc is slim and made of a relatively light material, so as to give rigidity to the driven clutch wheel (6) while at the same time keeping it as light as possible. The rigid disc can be inscribed in the driven clutch wheel (6). In an embodiment, the first rolling track (12) is arranged at a first edge (20) of the driven clutch wheel (6); the driven clutch wheel (6) comprises a second rolling track (13) which is circular and which is arranged at a second edge (21) of the driven clutch wheel (6), which second edge (21 ) is opposite the first edge (20); the rotating-arm (4) tourist attraction (1) comprises a second plurality (17) of actuators (8), each of which is borne by the support frame (2) and delivers a drive torque; the rotating-arm (4) tourist attraction (1) comprises a second plurality (18) of drive clutch wheels (7), each of which is drawn by an actuator (8) of the second plurality (17) of actuators (8) and is arranged so as to roll on the second rolling track (13), thus realizing a clutch coupling with the driven clutch wheel (6) which determines transmission of a drive torque to the driven clutch wheel (6); the first plurality (16) of drive clutch wheels (7) is arranged opposite the second plurality (18) of drive clutch wheels (7). The above- described embodiment leads to the advantages that are now described. In a clutch coupling, the maximum torque transferable between a first clutch wheel (for example a drive clutch wheel (7)) and a second clutch wheel (for example the driven clutch wheel (6)) increases with the increase of the contact force between the two above-mentioned wheels. This contact force, however, can over time lead to a deformation of one of the clutch wheels; this naturally depends on the entity of the contact force and
the rigidity of the clutch wheels. In the present invention, a problem of this type can occur in particular for the driven clutch wheel (6), as it is preferably realized with a radius exceeding five metres. This can occur notwithstanding counter-measures such as the providing of a net structure (19). To prevent the driven clutch wheel (6) from deforming it is necessary for it not to exceed a radius limit size.
The above embodiment advantageously enables significantly raising the limit value of the radius because of the arrangement (see figure 3) of drive clutch wheels (7) opposite to one another with respect to the driven clutch wheel (6): in this way the contact force with which a first drive clutch wheel (7) belonging to the first plurality (16) of drive clutch wheels (7) presses against the driven clutch wheel (6) is counter-balanced by the contact force with which a second drive clutch wheel (7), belonging to the second plurality (18) of drive clutch wheels (7), opposite the first drive clutch wheel (7), presses against the same driven clutch wheel (6).
By way of example, with reference to figures , 3 and 4 the first edge (20) of the driven clutch wheel (6) is identified as the internal edge thereof, while the external edge is termed the second edge (21).
Also, each drive clutch wheel (7) of the second plurality (18) of drive clutch wheels (7) is preferably a tyre.
The support frame (2) can be rested on the ground (3) or fixed to the ground (3). The support frame (2) preferably has a vertical development. The frame can comprise one or more columns (9).
The rotation axis (A) of the rotating arm (4) is preferably horizontal (figures 2 and 4) or inclined at an angle, for example comprised between five and thirty degrees, with respect to a horizontal plane.
The rotating arm (4) is preferably a net (figure 1) which enables minimising the weight of the rotating arm (4).
Each actuator (8) of the first plurality (15) of actuators (8) and the second plurality (17) of actuators (8) is preferably a motor, for example an electric motor. The motor frame is preferably solidly constrained to the support frame (2). The rotating-arm tourist attraction (1) can comprise a first transport capsule (10) for transport of passengers which is borne by the rotating arm (4); in particular, the first transport capsule (10) is constrained to a first end (13) of the rotating arm (4).
The rotating-arm tourist attraction (1) can comprise a second transport capsule (11) for transport of passengers which is borne by the rotating arm (4); in particular, the second transport capsule (11) is constrained to a second end (12) of the rotating arm (4) which is opposite the first end (13).
The above has been described by way of non-limiting example, so that any eventual constructional variants are understood to fall within the protective scope of the present technical solution, as claimed in the following.
