Description
COLLAPSIBLE PUSHCHAIR AND CONNECTING ROD THEREFOR
The invention relates to a collapsible pushchair at least comprising a collapsible frame which has in folded-open state a pair of parallel push bars extending obliquely upward.
Such a pushchair for transporting toddlers or infants is generally known and referred to as a buggy.
The known buggies are provided with four or three swivel wheels or pairs of swivel wheels and are pushed forward by the push bars which for this purpose lead at their upper outer end into, or are provided with, a handle.
The known buggy is exceptionally manoeuvrable as a result of its three or four swivel wheels.
The high manoeuvrability of the buggy provides
advantages during manoeuvring in for instance busy shopping streets, although it can be perceived as a drawback when the user has only one hand available for pushing a buggy with toddler (for instance because a second toddler has to be led with the other hand) .
It is an object of the invention to provide a
collapsible pushchair which is of light construction and which is easy to push and manoeuvre using one hand.
These objects are realised, and other advantages gained, with a collapsible pushchair of the type stated in the preamble, which according to the invention is characterized by a connecting rod extending in the folded-open state between the push bars and coupled releasably thereto.
When the connecting rod between the push bars of a collapsible pushchair is gripped in the centre, the pushchair can be pushed and steered in light and reliable manner with one hand without the pushchair tending to veer to the left or right .
In an embodiment the connecting rod is adjustable in length over a predetermined distance.
A length-adjustable connecting rod can be easily placed at a short length between the push bars and subsequently
adjusted in the length in order to couple the outer ends of the connecting rod to the respective push bars.
The connecting rod is for instance assembled from at least two connectable parts.
In an embodiment the connecting rod is assembled from a first tube part and at least one second tube part partially received therein at a first outer end and slidable over a determined distance therein.
The second tube part is for instance slidable inward counter to a spring pressure.
In an embodiment the first tube part is provided on its outer end facing toward the second tube part with at least two axial incisions, with a first screw thread and with a first sleeve which is provided on its inner side with a screw thread co-acting with the first screw thread for the purpose of locking the second tube part in the first tube part.
In an advantageous embodiment the connecting rod is assembled from a first, a second and a third tube part, which third tube part is partially received in the first tube part at a second outer end thereof and is slidable therein over a determined distance, wherein the first tube part is provided on its outer end facing toward the third tube part with at least two axial incisions, with a second screw thread and with a sleeve which is provided on its inner side with a screw thread co-acting with the second screw thread for the purpose of locking the third tube part in the first tube part .
The connecting rod is preferably provided on its outer ends with end pieces, a surface of which facing toward the respective push bar has a concave cross-section.
In an embodiment the end pieces are each provided with coupling means for coupling to the respective push bars.
The coupling means preferably comprise a flexible belt.
In another embodiment the connecting rod is provided around its centre with an ergonomically formed gripping part.
In a practically advantageous embodiment, wherein the connecting rod is assembled from a first tube part and at
least one second tube part, the first tube part is assembled from two pivotally coupled parts.
The first tube part is preferably provided here with locking means for locking the coupled parts in a situation in which these parts extend mutually in line.
This latter embodiment provides the option that after use a connecting rod need not be removed before collapsing of the associated pushchair but, by rotating the pivotally coupled parts relative to each other, can be folded away in simple manner during collapsing of this pushchair. The rigidity of the connecting rod in the folded-open state of the pushchair, in which the pivotally coupled parts have to extend mutually in line, is maintained by the locking means.
The invention also relates to a connecting rod
configured for arrangement between the push bars of a
collapsible pushchair.
The invention will be elucidated hereinbelow on the basis of an exemplary embodiment with reference to the drawings .
In the drawings
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a collapsible pushchair according to the invention,
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the connecting rod of the pushchair shown in fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a component of the connecting rod shown in fig. 2.
Corresponding components are designated in the figures with the same reference numerals.
Fig. 1 shows a collapsible pushchair 1 in folded-open state, with a frame 3 and four swivel wheel pairs 4 , an upper structure manufactured substantially from textile with seat 5 and cover 6, and a pair of parallel push bars 7 which extend obliquely upward and which transpose into handles 8, wherein push bars 7 are coupled just below handles 8 by a connecting rod 2.
Fig. 2 shows connecting rod 2 of pushchair 1 of fig. 1 with a central part 10 and two tube parts 9, 11 which are
inserted partially therein and which are locked with
respective sleeves 15, 16. Tube parts 9, 11 are each provided with an end piece 17, the end surface 18 of which facing toward the respective push bar 7 has a concave cross-section. Because the concave end surfaces 18 seek a position of equilibrium against push bars 7 during placing of transverse rod 2 between push bars 7, setting the maximum length of transverse bar 2 between push bars 7 is facilitated.
Fig. 3 shows the first and also central tube part 10 of connecting rod 2 of fig. 2 which is provided at its outer ends with six axial incisions 12 and with a respective screw thread 13, 14 onto which respectively a first sleeve 15 and second sleeve 16 can be screwed. Central part 20 of tube part 10 is formed ergonomically and has for instance an
elliptically shaped cross-section.
Tube parts 9, 10, 11 are manufactured for instance from aluminium, sleeves 15, 16 and end pieces 17 from a plastic material, for instance a polypropylene.
