Abstract
The present invention concerns a safety device mounted to a lamp for hindering spreading of broken parts of a light bulb (4). The safety device is also to hinder access to electrical parts of the lamp. The safety device comprises a globe part (1) and a cylindrical part (2), which are attached to each other by means of threaded parts of the globe part (1) and cylindrical part (2), respectively. The cylindrical part (2) of the safety device is attached to a lamp holder (5) of the lamp.
Description
SAFETY DEVICE OF A LAMP Technical Field
The present invention concerns a safety device covering electrical parts of a lamp.
Background
If a light bulb brakes for some reason there is a risk that pieces of the light bulb will be spread in an uncontrolled way. There is therefore a need for a protection hindering spreading of parts of a broken light bulb. This is not at least important as a child safety device.
For child safety it is also beneficial if all electrical parts are covered, hindering unwanted manipulation. It is also beneficial if the safety device hinders that someone, for instance a child, smashes the light bulb, intentionally or unintentionally.
Summary
According to the present invention a cover is arranged, placed surrounding the light bulb and other electrical parts of a lamp. The cover has the form of a globe to be placed over the light bulb and a cylindrical part connected to the globe and which cylindrical part is to cover other electrical parts of the lamp.
Further objects and advantages of the present invention will be obvious to a person skilled in the art when reading the detailed description below of embodiments of the present invention.

The invention will be described further below by way of examples and with reference to the enclosed drawings. In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side view of a pendant lamp provided with a safety device according to the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a side view of the lamp of Fig. 1 with parts shown see-through in illustrative purpose;
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a part of the safety device;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a further part of the safety device; and
Fig. 5 is a side view of a floor lamp provided with a safety device according to the present invention.
Detailed Description
The safety device of the present invention is formed of a globe part 1 and a cylindrical part 2. In the example shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the lamp is a pendant lamp, hanging in an electrical cord 3, as is commonly known. The globe part 1 and the cylindrical part 2 are attached to each other by co-operating threads. In this example the cylindrical part 2 is placed above the globe part 1. The globe part 1 of the safety device is to surround a light bulb 4. The safety device is attached to a lamp holder 5.
The globe part 1 has a ring 6 with a vertical wall and inside the ring 6 an opening 7 is formed. The light bulb 4 is to be inserted through the opening 7 of the ring 6 of the globe part 1.
The cylindrical part 2 has a general cylindrical form, with a flange 8 at an up- per end projecting inwardly. Thus, the flange 8 has a horizontal orientation. In the flange 8 of the cylindrical part 2 a number of through holes 9 are provided with an even spacing. The through holes 9 of the flange 8 have a cooling effect. Inside the flange 8 an opening 10 is formed, through which opening 10 a part of the lamp holder 5 is to be inserted. The cylindrical part 2 is held between a lamp holder cap and a lamp holder ring of the lamp holder 5.
The outside of the ring 6 of the globe part 1 has a thread for co-operation with a thread on the inside of the lower section of the cylindrical part 2. The threaded parts are indicated in Fig. 2.
As indicated in Fig. 5 the safety device of the present invention may also be used with a standing or upright lamp, such as floor lamp or table lamp, whereby the lamp holder may be placed on top of a rod 11. In this case the cylindrical part 2 of the safety device is placed below the globe part 1.
The globe part 1 of the safety device may be used as a lamp shade on its own or a separate lamp shade may be provided in addition to the safety device. The globe part 1 is made of a transparent material.
In mounting of the safety device of the present invention the cylindrical part 2 is first mounted to the lamp holder 5 and is held between a lamp holder cap and a lamp holder ring. Thereafter, the globe part 1 is screwed onto the cylindrical part 2. With the safety device of the invention mounted, access to the electrical parts and the light bulb 4 is blocked.
When the light bulb 4 needs to be replaced, the globe part 1 is first screwed off from the cylindrical part 2. Possible lose parts of the light bulb 4 will be collected inside the globe part 1. Then the light bulb 4 is replaced with a new light bulb, where after the globe part 1 is screwed back onto the cylindrical part 2.
A person skilled in the art realizes that the size and design of the parts of the safety device may be amended as long as the safety device hinders access to the electrical parts and the light bulb after mounting.
Claims
1. A safety device of a lamp, characterized in that it comprises a cylindrical part (2) attached to a lamp holder and a globe part (1) attached to the cylindrical part (2).
2. The safety device of claim 1, wherein the cylindrical part (2) and the globe part (1) together covers the light bulb and all electrical parts after mounting.
3. The safety device of claim 1 or 2, wherein the globe part (1) has a vertical ring (6), surrounding an opening (7) of the globe part (1).
4. The safety device of claim 3, wherein the cylindrical part (2) has a horizontal flange (8) at one end, which horizontal flange (8) surrounds an opening (10) of the cylindrical part (2).
5. The safety device of claim 4, wherein a thread is provided on the outside of the vertical ring (6) of the globe part (1) for co-operation with a thread on the inside of the cylindrical part (2), which thread is provided at an end of the cylindrical part (2) opposite the horizontal flange (8).
6. The safety device of claim 4, wherein the horizontal flange (8) of the cylindrical part (2) is provided with a number of through openings (9) with even spacing.
7. A pendant lamp, characterized in that it is provided with a safety device according to any of the previous claims.
8. A standing lamp, characterized in that it is provided with a safety device according to any of the claims 1 to 6.
