Abstract

The present invention relates to device for preventing a paper web (5), transported on a moving wire (2), from lifting away from the wire (2), wherein an edge section (19) of the paper web has been cut off from the paper web by a trim squirt (9). The device comprises an air-foil (10) which comprises an air-foil surface (11) that faces against the wire (2) and is arranged such that the air- foil surface redirects an airstream from the moving wire (2) to create a suppression which prevent the paper web from lifting.

Description

A DEVICE FOR PREVENTING A PAPER WEB FROM LIFTING AWAY FROM A WIRE
The present invention relates to a device for preventing a paper web, transported on a moving wire, from lifting away from the wire, wherein an edge section of the paper web has been cut off from the paper web by a trim squirt.
In the wire part of a paper machine the paper web is transported on a moving wire towards the press section of the paper machine. At the end of the wire part, at least one edge section of the paper web is cut off from the paper web by a trim squirt. The trim squirt is located above the paper web and uses water- ets at high pressure to cut through the paper web. A problem during cutting is that the cut-off edge of the paper web has a tendency to lift upwards, which in turns may cause edge cracks in the paper web. Normally is a vacuum suction box located below the wire, after the trim squirt, for preventing the cut¬ off edge and the paper web from lifting upwards away from the wire.
However, the vacuum suction box is connected to some major drawbacks. The vacuum suction box is expensive, both to purchase and to use due to its high power
consumption. The vacuum suction box is also complex in its construction and requires maintenance. Moreover, the vacuum box may also leads to abrasive wear of the wire.
It is an object of the present invention, to provide a device that will secure that both the cut-off edge of the paper web and the cut off edge section are pressed against the wire. The device will in comparison to the vacuum suction box, be simpler in its construction, cheaper and requires none or at least less maintenance. The device according to the invention is characterized in that the device comprises an air-foil which comprises an air-foil surface that faces against the wire and is arranged such that the air-foil surface redirects an air- stream from the moving wire to create a suppression which prevent the paper web from lifting.
In the following, the invention will be described in a preferred embodiment with reference to the drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 shows a wire part of a paper machine, where a device in accordance with the invention is arranged to prevent a cut-off edge of a paper web from lifting upwards from a wire.
Figure 2 shows a top view of figure 1.
Figure 3 shows an air-foil in profile.
Figure 4 shows the air-foil in perspective.
Figure 5 shows an adjusting mean for adjusting the position of the air-foil.
Figure 1 and 2 shows a wire part of a paper machine. The wire part 1 comprises a moving wire 2 for the transport of a paper web 5. The wire 2 has a first surface 3 which faces upwards and a second surface 4 which faces
downwards and away from the first surface 3.
Moreover, the wire part 1 comprising the above mentioned paper web 5. The paper web has a first surface 6 which faces upwards and a second surface 7 which faces away from the first surface 6. The second surface 7 of the paper web 5 is in physical contact with the first surface the moving wire 2. In use, the wire has a speed from about 500 m/min and higher.
The wire part 1 further comprising a rotating couch roll 8, which couch roll 8 the moving wire 2 abuts, such that, the moving direction of the wire 2 is redirected after it has passed the couch roll 8.
Further, the wire parts 1 comprising a trim squirt 9. The trim squirt 9 is arranged above the first surface 6 of the paper web for cutting off an edge section 19 from the moving paper web 1. The trim squirt 9 is arranged at a predetermined distance from the edge of the paper web and from the first surface of the paper web.
A device is, at least partly, arranged under the second surface 4 of the wire 2 for preventing the cut-off edge of the paper web 5 as well as the cut-off edge section 9 from lifting upwards.
The device comprising an air-foil 10 (see fig. 3 and fig. 4) which air-foil 10 having a longitudinal extension, preferably the extension of the air-foil is perpendicular relative the moving direction MD of the wire 2 and the paper web 5. The air-foil 10 comprising a substantially flat air—foil surface 11 which is facing upwards and at least partly facing against the second surface 4 of the wire 2. The air-foil surface 11 is limited by an outer, first end 12, which end is located outside an outer edge of the wire; an inner, second end 13, which is located under the wire and the paper web at a predetermined distance from the outer edge of the wire; a first edge 14, which is facing with the moving direction of the wire; and a second edge 15, which is facing against the moving direction MD of the wire. The air-foil 10 is arranged before the edge section 19 of the paper web is cut off by the trim squirt; hence the first edge 14 is facing the cutting point of the trim squirt. Preferably, the first edge 14 is located at a distance of about 180 mm away from the cutting point 20. The second end 13 of the air-foil 10 is located within the cutting point 20 at a distance of 20 mm in the longitudinal direction of the air-foil. The angle between the air-foil surface 11 and the second surface 4 of the wire is about of 0-5°, wherein the second edge 15 is closest to the second surface 4 of the wire 2. The distance between the second edge 15 and the second surface 4 of the wire is 1-3 mm, preferably 2 mm. The length of the air-foil surface 11 between the first end 12 and the second end 13 is about 200-600 mm, preferably about 400 mm. The width of the air-foil surface between the first edge 14 and the second edge 15 is about 25-75 mm, preferably 50 mm. The second edge 15, which is facing the moving direction of the wire and the airstream, is suitably less than 90°, preferably 80-85°. In use, the moving wire causes an airstream in the same direction as the moving direction of the wire. The air-foil and the air-foil surface redirects the airstream, such that, the airstream creates a suppression after it has passed the air-foil, wherein the suppression bring the cut-off edge of the paper web and the cut-off edge section down 19 to the first surface of the wire and preventing them from lifting upwards. Moreover, the airfoil 10 comprising an attaching element consisting of a longitudinal, T-shaped groove 16 in the longitudinal direction of the air-foil for attaching the air-foil to adjusting mean 17. The groove is arranged on the
underside of the air-foil and faces away from the air¬ foil surface.
Finally, the device comprising the mentioned adjusting means 17 (see fig. 5) for adjusting the position of the air-foil 10 relative to the wire 2. The adjusting mean comprising an adjusting element 18 in which the air-foil is attached by its groove 16. The adjusting mean 17 controls the adjusting element 18, such that, the air¬ foil 10 can be tilted forward, tilted backward and moved in its longitudinal direction. Moreover, the air-foil can be moved upwards, downwards and in the direction of the wire.
Above all, by means of the invention, the advantages are achieved that the inventive device, comprising the air-foil, keeps the cut-off edge of the paper as well as the cut-off edge section down on the wire. Moreover, the air-foil works as a deflector for the airstream that comes from the moving wire.
In the foregoing, the invention has been described on the basis of some specific embodiments. It is appreciated, however, that other embodiments and variants are possible within the scope of the following claims. For instance, it is obvious that various embodiments of the adjusting means are possible for adjusting the position of the air- foil. For example, the air-foil may be mounted on a robot arm or similar. Moreover, the skilled person realises that the mentioned dimensions and distances are based on certain operating parameters and therefore may be
different at other operating parameters.

Claims

C L A I M S
1. A device for preventing a paper web (5), transported on a moving wire (2), from lifting away from the wire (2), wherein an edge section (19) of the paper web has been cut off from the paper web by a trim squirt (9), characterized in that the device comprises an air-foil (10) which comprises an air-foil surface (11) that faces against the wire (2) and is arranged such that the air- foil surface redirects an airstream from the moving wire (2) to create a suppression which prevent the paper web from lifting.
2. The device according to claim 1, characterized in that the wire (2) comprising a first surface (3) and a second surface (4) which faces away from the first surface (2), wherein the paper web (5) is transported on the first surface (3) and the air-foil surface (11) faces against the second surface (4) .
3. The device according to claim 2, characterized in that the angle between the second surface (4) and the air-foil surface (11) is about 0-5°.
4. The device according to any of claims 2-3,
characterized in that the air-foil surface is limited by a first edge (14) which is facing with the moving
direction (MD) of the wire and a second edge (15) which is facing against the moving direction (MD) of the wire, wherein the distance between the first edge (14) and the second edge (15) is 200-600 mm, preferably about 400 mm.
5. The device according to claim 4, characterized in that the second edge (15), which is facing the airstream from the wire, is less than 90°, preferably 80-85°.
