Description
JACKET FOR A MULTI WALLED INSULATED
COOKING POT
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a protective insulating foamed neoprene jacket for use about a multi walled insulated cooking pot incorporating a pivoting hoop style carry handle.
Background of the Invention
Thermal carry bags are currently available for use in relation to multi walled insulated cooking pots. Typically these carry bags are of a relatively loose fit about the pot which they are intended to contain and incorporate a carry strap to facilitate transport. They are not designed to use a multi walled insulated cooking pot's integral hoop style handle for transport and not designed to remain substantially in place about the thermal cooking pot during the partial dismantling of the pot that occurs in use so that food may be conveniently dispensed from the container.
Object of the Invention
Accordingly it is an object of the present invention to provide a snug fitting jacket which provides enhanced insulation and durability when about a multi walled insulated cooking pot with integral hoop style handle during transport, storage and use of that pot.
Short Summary of the Invention
According to the present invention there is disclosed a removable neoprene snug fitting cylindrical fully encompassing jacket for a multi walled external handled insulated cooking pot; the jacket having an openable disc shaped upper surface which facilitates insertion and removal of a multi walled insulated cooking pot therein as well as pot lid removal and dispensing of food from the cooking pot when the upper surface is open or removed; characterised in that there are two cut outs extending downwardly from the upper periphery
of the jacket to allow the integral handle of the multi walled insulated cooking pot to sit and be functional outside the jacket, the cut outs also facilitating the folding down of the upper peripheral extremities of the pot when the pot is open to dispense food.
Brief Description of the Drawings
One embodiment of the present invention will now be described with references to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a jacket in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the jacket of figure 1 about a cooking pot with the jacket's upper surface removed.
Preferred Mode of Carrying out the Invention
According to the embodiment of figure 1 there is disclosed a jacket 1 of a cylindrical configuration adapted to fit snugly about a multi walled insulated cooking pot (not shown). The jacket is ideally fabricated from a 5mm closed foam neoprene rubber fabric with a weight/ density equivalent to 0.7-1.4kg per square meter and sandwiched between an external woven nylon fabric sheet adhered thereto and an inner material layer of polyester adhered thereto. It will be observed that the jacket is comprised of a main body 2 and an upper surface or lid portion 3 of like material which may be formed into a fully enclosed (not shown) jacket by use of semicircular nylon zippers 4 and 5 either side of side cut outs 6 and 7.
Side cut outs 6 and 7 are provided in order to accommodate a carry handle (shown only in Figure 2 ) integral with a multi walled insulated cooking pot (shown only in Figure 2) to be contained by the jacket. In order to relieve stress on zips 4 and 5 when the multi walled insulated cooking pot is enclosed within the jacket with its handle protruding from side cut outs 6 and 7, hook and loop material tabs 8 provided on one side of each cutout 6 and 7 are adapted to be secured to corresponding hook and loop pads 9 on the opposing sides of the cutouts 6 and 7. Although these hook and loop fasteners are optional they assist in enclosing the jacket completely about the container within and hence enhances the ability of the jacket
to help maintain the temperature of the multi walled insulated cooking pot within the jacket and to exclude dust.
Figure 2 depicts the jacket 1 in place about a thermal cooking pot 11 which may typically have a hinged lid 12 and a semicircular pivoting hoop style handle 13. The lid 12 of the pot 11 must be opened by releasing catch 14 in order to dispense food from within. As depicted in Figure 2 the jacket, in addition to having its upper surface 3 removed, has had its main body 2 folded down to lie well below the pot intersection 15 between pot 11 and lid 12. This enables the jacket to fulfil partial insulation and protection functions whilst remaining clear of intersection 15 through which food (often stews and the like) is dispensed. It will be appreciated that without cut outs 6 and 7 and release of tabs 8 as shown in figure 2 it would be very difficult to fold the upper part of jacket body 2 down over itself to the orientation depicted in figure 2.
The jacket also offers dust protection to a multi walled insulated cooking pot within which is very important in all camping or outdoor applications where food is involved. To enhance the dust sealing properties a dust seal flap 10 is also provided behind the zippers 4 and 5.
Ideally the material of construction for the depicted example is foamed neoprene 5mm sheet, sandwiched between and adhered to woven polyester sheet on the outside and nylon sheet on the inside. Ideally these materials from which the jacket is constructed (including the Zippers) should be capable of withstanding temperatures of 120 degrees Celcius or at least 100 degrees.
The bottom (not shown) of the jacket 1 may be provided with an anti-slip rubberised finish (not shown).
It will be appreciated that a jacket in accordance with the present invention not only provides significant additional thermal insulation for a multi walled insulated cooking pot within, and furthermore, continues to do so even during serving of the food from the multi walled insulated cooking pot with its lid open (and consequently the jacket lid removed) but also provides significant protection to the multi walled insulated cooking pot due to the impact
absorbing nature of neoprene. As one of the many principal applications for multi walled insulated cooking pot is camping, when such equipment is often slung in the back of utility type vehicles or pickup trucks, the additional physical protection and durability afforded by the jacket to a multi walled insulated cooking pot is important.
It will be appreciated a jacket in accordance with the present invention provides a novel and useful accessory not currently available for multi walled insulated cooking pot's. Alternate embodiments of the invention may be devised apart from that above depicted without departing from the scope end intendment of the invention. For example the zipper configuration locating the top of the jacket can be varied as can the shape and configuration of the side cut outs. Similarly the hook and loop tabs may be omitted or varied in configuration. Known neoprene substitutes may also be utilized and although 5mm neoprene is considered ideal other thicknesses may be utilized. Foamed neoprene imparts to the jacket longevity, weather resistance and structural integrity over a wide elevated temperature environment, provides excellent flexibility, insulation, durability and shock absorption.
