Abstract

The invention is directed to the systems, compositions and methods for the inactivation of viruses in vaccines by treatment with gamma radiation in the presence of protective components. In particular, the invention involves contacting a vaccine with a carbohydrate and subjecting the vaccine to gamma radiation, thereby inactivating viruses without damaging the effective molecular structure of the antigenic aspects of the vaccine.
