Abstract

A bottom hole assembly (22) (BHA) which is transported via a wireline through downhole and lateral wellbores and thence through a wellbore window aperture (26), the BHA carrying with it a blocking (tool 30) which is adapted to engage the edge of a lateral wellbore window (26) and prevent the wireline (16) from contacting and abrading against that edge of the window (26), the blocking tool (30) being detachable from the BHA (22) which proceeds axially distally through the wellbore window (26) while the wireline (16) slides through the blocking tool (30). Upon withdrawal of the BHA (22) the blocking tool (30) is reattached thereto and is removed with it.
