- the female portion is a cylinder shape that has an opening allowing for insertion of the male portion followed by an open chamber that allows the male portion to be twisted to lock.
- the components are made up of two parts, a male and a female part.
- the male is a stem- like cylinder which has two opposing arms or flanges that extend at one end of the cylinder. The other end of the cylinder may be reconfigured depending on the application and material to be secured. Additionally, the cylinder itself may have perforations to enable the material being secured to adhere to the stem.
- the female is a larger cylinder with a correspondingly- shaped opening at the top to accept insertion of the two arms or flanges. There is a barrel-shape opening within the female cylinder . The male portion is inserted into the female cylinder and twisted to lock in place within the barrel shape.
- the base of the female part is an oval-type shape and extends beyond the cylinder for insertion into the material to be secured.
- the shaped base allows for accurate placement and alignment of the male and female part.
- the components have been designed and created out of a need for a system that would withstand both the tension and stress where two opposing materials of any kind are combined. When combined the two portions form a single unit which can be configured to suit any type of application.
- the twist and lock system can be made in any size and from any materials to adapt to varied uses such as medical, military, marine, apparel or any other complex situation where two separate materials need to be secured.
- twist and lock system The most important part of the twist and lock system is the portion where the male interlocks with the female portion.
- the invention was developed out of a need to create a system that would withstand a certain amount of tension and stress.
- the components are arranged so that the female cylinder is placed on the material in a way that it becomes a permanent part of the base material (sandal sole).
- the stem or upper portion is placed on a different piece of material in a way that it also becomes permanent. This allows the two separate sections to be interlocked while still allowing for separation of the item when desired .
