Abstract
A method for the recovery of oil or other hydrocarbon deposits from a subterranean formation below a surficial formation, said method comprising the steps of: a] separating an air stream into an oxygen-rich stream and a nitrogen-rich stream; b) pressurizing said nitrogen-rich stream and injecting said pressurized nitrogen stream into the subterranean formation; c) collecting hydrocarbons displaced by the injected fluid; d) combusting at least a portion of the collected hydrocarbons and generating a carbon dioxide-rich stream from the products of said combustion; and, e) pressurizing said carbon dioxide-rich stream and injecting said pressurized carbon dioxide stream into the subterranean formation, wherein in said method at least a portion of the oxygen-rich stream is used in step d).
