A comb (22) is pivotally mounted on the lid part (14) and can be displaced between an inoperative position in which it is entirely within the closed container and an operative position in which it protrudes from the partly closed container.

Description

CONTAINER FOR SURFBOARD WAX FIELD OF THE INVENTION
This invention relates to a container for surfboard wax. BACKGROUND TO THE INVENTION
Surfers coat their surfboards with a wax which inhibits the surfers' feet from slipping on their boards. The wax is initially applied as a lump and is then spread as a layer over the board's upper surface in the area where the surfer stands. Combs are initially used for the purpose of spreading the lump of wax. The combs are also used to redistribute and roughen the wax that was initially spread on the board. This is necessary because, after the board has been in use for some time, the wax can have been dissipated in the area where the surfer stands or can have become smooth and slippery.
The wax is supplied in a container which can be closed after wax has been removed. A problem with the comb is that after use it has wax on it and this can get onto clothing and car seats.
The present invention provides a combined wax container and comb which overcomes the problems that can be caused by a loose wax covered comb.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
According to the present invention there is provided a container for surfboard wax, the container comprising a base part defining an upwardly open wax storage space, a lid part for closing-off the storage space and a comb which is mounted on one of said parts and is displaceable between an inoperative stored position within the closed container and an operative position in which it protrudes from the container.
The comb is preferably pivotally mounted on said one part, and it is desirable for the comb to be pivotally mounted on the lid part.
In the preferred form part of the comb, in its operative position, is within said storage space and the remainder of the comb protrudes from said storage space between the lid part and the base part.
Said lid part can be connected by a hinge to the base part and there can be a latch for securing said lid part to the base part in a position in which it closes off said storage space.
In a preferred form the latch comprises a protruding catch on one of said parts, the catch having an edge zone which is thicker than the remainder of the catch, and the other part having an opening for receiving said protrusion as the container is closed, said catch deforming as it moves into the position in which said edge zone thereof snaps into said opening.
Said comb can comprise a plate with a serrated edge.
Said catch is preferably integral with the base part and said plate preferably has an opening for receiving said edge zone of the catch when the comb is in its operative position and the lid part is moved towards its closed position thereby to latch the base part to the comb. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
For a better understanding of the present invention, and to show how the same may be carried into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawings in which:-
Figure 1 is a pictorial view of a container for surfboard wax;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the container with the lid open and a comb in its inoperative, stored position;
Figure 3 is a view similar to that of Figure 2 but with the comb in its operative position; and
Figure 4 is a side elevation of the container with the comb in its operative position. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
The surfboard wax container 10 shown in the drawings comprise a base part 12 and a lid part 14. The parts 12, 14 are injection moulded and there is an integral film hinge 16 joining the base part 12 to the lid part 14. The base part 12 defines an upwardly open wax storage space.
The base part 12 is formed with a latch in the form of an upwardly protruding catch 18 with an edge zone which is thicker than the remainder of the catch 18. The lid part has an opening 20 which receives the thicker edge zone. The catch 18 is deformed by the wall of the lid part 14 as the container is closed so that the edge zone of the catch snaps into the opening 20. A wax comb 22 is provided within the container 10. The comb 22 is in the form of a plate 24 which has a serrated edge 26. There is a semi-circular hole 28 in the plate 24, the hole having a curved edge 30.
The comb 22 is pivotally mounted on the lid part 14. Preferably the comb 24 is moulded with two protruding axles 32 and the lid part 14 is moulded with two pedestals 34 each of which has a groove in it. The grooves are more than 180 degrees in extent. The axles 32 snap into the grooves of the pedestals thereby pivotally to mount the comb 22 on the lid part 14.
When the container 10 is closed the comb 22 is entirely within the container and in the stored, inoperative position shown in Figure 2. In Figures 3 and 4 the comb 22 is in its operative position. It has been pivoted through approximately 145 degrees from the stored position of Figure 2 and protrudes from the lid part 14. When the container is closed, the catch 18 passes through the hole 28. The catch 18 is deformed as it passes through the hole 28 and the thick edge zone snaps under the curved edge 30 at two spaced locations. As a result of engagement between the catch 18 and the comb 22, the lid part is 14 latched in a partly closed position.

Claims
