Description

AN ELECTRONIC EDUCATIONAL DEVICE COMPRISING A USER RECOGNITION UNIT
The present invention relates to an electronic educational device comprising a user recognition unit and the control method thereof.
The blackboards and the marker boards used in educational institutions, in meetings and seminars have given place to electronic educational devices in the course of time. The state of the art electronic educational devices generally comprise a writing surface that performs the function of the blackboard and/or marker board and a displaying means whereby the electronic content supporting the mentioned subject is shared with the listeners. In situations where the electronic educational device is utilized by multiple users in the same classroom, a large number of contents are recorded in the memory of the electronic educational device by different users to be displayed on the displaying means and it becomes difficult for the user to find the document he/she is searching. Furthermore, unauthorized users can easily access the memory of the electronic educational device besides course and conference hours and therefore information safety is at risk. Besides that, the people not skilled enough to use the electronic educational device may use the electronic educational device, resulting in impairment of the electronic educational device.
In the state of the art Japanese Patent Application No. JP2010052410, an electronic blackboard device is described wherein the writing surface can be utilized only by specified users authorized by a password. The writing surface is activated after the user enters the password.
In the state of the art Japanese Patent Application No. JP1233956, an electronic blackboard device is described that comprises a magnetic card reader. The user swipes the card having magnetic strip through the magnetic card reader when he/she desires to transfer content from the screen memory to the storage memory. The transfer operation can only be made after user verification operation is realized.
In the state of the art Japanese Patent Application No. JP2005088204, an electronic blackboard device is described that comprises a fingerprint sensor. In this embodiment, the confidentiality of information entered on the writing surface is provided by performing a user identification process.
The aim of the present invention is the realization of an electronic educational device wherein confidentiality of information is provided and utilization of which is facilitated.
The electronic educational device realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises a memory, a displaying means whereon the contents saved in the memory are displayed and a user recognition unit. The people authorized to use the electronic educational device are previously identified by a system administrator and user profiles are created for these people in the memory wherein content and settings belonging to these users are stored. When the user is detected by the user recognition unit, the user profile associated with the respective user is activated. Thus, the user can easily access the content belonging to him/her.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the user recognition unit comprises a database having a user list containing the users with access authorization to the electronic educational device. The identity information of the users is located in the user list. In this embodiment, the user recognition unit furthermore comprises a reader. The reader detects the identity information of the user. The user is recognized by comparing the identity information detected by the reader with the identity information in the user list.
In a version of this embodiment, the users utilize identity cards comprising a radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag in order to identify themselves to the electronic educational device and the reader can read these tags. The user holds up his/her card towards the reader, providing the user recognition process to be performed and afterwards starts to use the electronic educational device. The user recognition process can be made quickly and easily by means of the radio-frequency identification (RFID) system.
In another version of this embodiment, the biometric features of the users are contained in the user list as the identity information. In this embodiment, the reader is a sensor that is suitable for detecting the biometric information of the user. Thus, unauthorized utilization resulting from the card of any user containing identity information being lost or stolen is prevented. Thereby, this provides increase in the security of information.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the electronic educational device comprises a writing surface. The writing surface is a blackboard and/or a marker board. The data written on the writing surface by means of a pen are converted into an image file by being scanned by means of at least one scanner situated preferably on the corners of the writing surface. Thus, the information written on the writing surface is made suitable for being processed and shared.
In a version of this embodiment, the generated image file is saved into the profile of the currently active user and the user can easily access the file via the user profile when the respective file is desired to be reviewed later on. Consequently, not only the information entered into the writing surface is prevented from being lost and also easy access to this information is provided.
In another version of this embodiment, the generated image file is transmitted to listeners having wireless receiver devices present in the environment by means of a wireless transmitter contained in the electronic educational device. In this embodiment, the users having preferably wireless tablet computers can display the data on the writing surface on their tablet computers. Thus, both the frequent problem of not being able to see the writing surface and also the need for rewriting the data on the writing surface are eliminated and time is provided to be used efficiently.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the control unit controls the date information in the system after the user is identified and brings the content the respective user is expected to use at that date on the display screen. Thus, the user that will give education about different subjects on predetermined dates is saved from the trouble of searching for content before every session. In an education program wherein the curriculum is predetermined, the content that will be displayed on the display screen for each date is predetermined and the user can easily access the content relating to the conference/course that will be given on that date upon identifying himself/herself to the electronic educational device.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the user recognition unit detects the user identity information by means of the reader and compares it with the identity information in the user list and actuates the displaying means if the user identity information matches with any of the identity information in the user list. Consequently, the displaying means is prevented from remaining open when the electronic educational device is not in use and this provides energy saving.
By means of the present invention, the electronic educational device is provided to be used only by predetermined users and the authorized users are enabled to easily access their respective contents and settings.
