Abstract

A positive displacement screw machine is described, which has a casing with a low-pressure port and a high-pressure port that are axially spaced apart. The casing defines a first bore and a second bore that extend along respective first and second axes from the low pressure port to the high pressure port. First and second meshing helical lobed rotors are arranged to contra-rotate within the respective first and second bores. The first rotor has an outside diameter that tapers in a direction substantially parallel to the first axis moving from the low pressure port to the high pressure port, and the second rotor has a root diameter that tapers in a direction substantially parallel to the second axis moving from the high pressure port to the low pressure port.
