Description

A SNUFF CARRIER AND METHOD FOR BAKING SNUFF THEREON Field of the Invention
The invention relates to a carrier for moist snuff and to a method for baking moist snuff thereon.
Background of the Invention
Moist snuff (snus) is intended for oral use and is usually marketed in a snuff box. When taking loose moist snuff a more or less contiguous body having a relative firm consistency is formed/baked, in the description and claims below called pinch, which is put into the mouth, preferably placed under the upper lip. In the mouth the nicotine in the snuff is absorbed by the body and transported throughout the body by the blood.
A drawback when baking a pinch is that both hands normally have to be used, i.e. preferably the thumb and forefinger of each hand, and at the same time one is trying to keep the fingers above the open snuff box so as to avoid wastage. This means that, at the same time as a pinch is baked with both hands, the opened snuff box must also be carried by at least one hand, which may result in difficulties. Therefore, it is common to place the snuff box on a substrate when baking a pinch .
Moreover, for the inexperienced snuff-takers it may be
difficult to obtain, in one step, a contiguous pinch of relatively firm consistency and of a suitable size for the snuff-taking person.
A further drawback is that when the pinch is at the right place in the mouth it starts gradually to become softer by the saliva and has then a tendency to start to run. Even though, at the beginning, it is only an external layer of the pinch which starts to run many persons choose in this situation to remove the pinch. This results in that a large amount of snuff and thereby nicotine, particularly in the core of the pinch, is not used, i.e. is not absorbed by the body, and is throw away. This leads to an increased consumption of snuff and thereby to higher costs for the consumer.
Summary of the Invention
An object of the invention is to at least entirely or partly remove the above-mentioned drawbacks.
This object is achieved by a carrier for moist snuff, which carrier is intended for oral use and is characterized in that it comprises a body the surface of which is wholly or partly provided with fastening means so as to facilitate the baking and fastening of the snuff on the surface so as to form a completed pinch.
This object is also achieved by a method for baking a pinch of moist snuff, which method is characterized by the steps of:
- providing a carrier intended for oral use and comprising a body the surface of which is wholly or partly provided with fastening means so as to facilitate baking and fastening of the snuff on the surface, and
- applicating the snuff on the surface provided with fastening means so as to form the completed pinch. Preferred embodiments are defined in the dependent claims.
Brief Description of the Drawings
The invention is described in more detail below, reference being made to the appended drawings, in which
- Fig. la is a schematic view showing to the left the completed pinch and to the right the construction of the pinch with the inventive snuff carrier having fastening means on the surface thereof in the form of threads,
- Fig. lb shows the same view as in Fig. la but with the fastening means in the form of prickles and the like,
- Fig. lc shows the same view as in Fig. la but with the fastening means in the form of an adhesive material and the like, and
- Fig. 2a-2f are schematic views of different shapes which the inventive snuff carrier can have.
Description of Preferred Embodiments
Figs, la to lc are schematic views of a pinch, which views shows to the left the completed pinch 1 and to the right the construction of the pinch with a carrier 2 for moist snuff according to the invention. As can be seen from the right part of said figure the pinch 1 comprises, as seen from the centre, a carrier 2 comprising a body 2a the surface of which is wholly or partly provided with fastening means 4 so as to improve the fastening of moist snuff 5 to the surface and thereby the forming/baking of the pinch with the purpose of achieving a relatively firm consistence of the pinch.
The fastening means 4 may comprise, but is not limited to, means that protrude from the surface. These means may consist of discrete means or of one or a plurality of continuous means in the form of threads, for instance, preferably spirally wound threads, or loops or the like, as shown in Fig. la. The fastening means can comprise of for instance prickles, spikes, hooks etc. as shown in Fig. lb. The fastening means may be formed integrally with the body 2a or may be glued, for instance, or in any other way fastened to the surface 3 of the body 2a. The fastening means may also comprise an adhesive material or a sticky material for the snuff, as shown in Fig. lc, possibly in combination with any of the above-mentioned fastening means.
By providing the surface 3 of the carrier 2 with said
fastening means 4 a base is formed on which a desired amount of loose moist snuff may be built and shaped.
The snuff carrier 2 according to the invention is preferably provided in different shapes and sizes, possibly also in different colours, where the colour may designate a particular size .
In Figs. 2a-2f are shown examples of different shapes of the snuff carrier 2 according to the invention. It is obvious for the man skilled in the art that other shapes of the snuff carrier 2 are possible and that the body 2a of the snuff carrier may be hollow.
The snuff carrier 2 is preferably intended for single-use and after use to be discarded with the snuff thereon. For this object the body 2a provided with fastening means 4 is
preferably made of an inert material, particularly a
biologically decomposable material, for instance, such as but not limited to, corn starch, cellulose fibres, biologically decomposable plastics, bioplastics, any suitable organic material, or combinations thereof. Moreover, the body 2a should not be disintegrated by the saliva during the time period the pinch is in the mouth of the user.
Furthermore, the body 2a should preferably be relatively soft and formable.
The body 2a may also be provided with different aromas as flavour enhancers. The body 2a may for instance have a taste of whisky, mint, liquorice, etc. so as to obtain new variations and different sensory impression of taste and smell .
By using a snuff carrier 2 according to the invention a user of snuff may in an easy way bake a pinch of snuff by rolling or in any other way apply snuff on the carrier. This is preferably done in the snuff box and by one hand, whereby the other hand can be used to support the snuff box. Also the desired shape of the pinch can be achieved in a more simple way, when the snuff carrier has a particular basic shape, versus baking with two hands and without the snuff carrier according to the invention.
When using a snuff carrier 2 according to the invention the snuff is also used more efficient, i.e. a less amount of snuff is consumed per pinch, since a rather large volume of the pinch consists of the body 2a.
