Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for operating resource-constrained wireless devices (10) in IP networks. A proxy node (20) translates a received unique identification (UID) of the wireless device (10) into an IP address of the destination device(s) (30) e.g. by table lookup or standard Domain Name System resolving. Then, the proxy node (20) sends a command in a standard message format embedded in the IP network's communication to one or more destination IP device(s) (30). A message from the proxy node (20) to the IP destination device(s) (30) may contain e.g. a transmission- specific value such as a sequence number unambiguously derived from a transmission- specific value received from the wireless device and a calculated IP source address of the wireless device (10).
