Abstract

The variable capacity turbocharger includes a variable nozzle unit used to change a capacity at which exhaust gas is emitted from a scroll passage of a turbine housing to an exhaust port. The variable nozzle unit includes: a first and a second nozzle plates that form a flow passage routed from the scroll passage to the exhaust port; an actuator that changes an area of the flow passage; an annular space that is formed in a region adjacent to the scroll passage and in which part of power transmitting movable components of the actuator are arranged; a communication hole that is formed in the first nozzle plate and that is used to allow exhaust gas to flow from the scroll passage into the annular space; and an open/close portion that is provided at the part of the movable components and that opens or closes the communication hole.
