Description

ADVERTISING HORN
The present invention relates to an advertising horn provided with a pressure medium feed pipe and a sound pipe arranged within said feed pipe, wherein there is an air gap between the feed pipe and the sound pipe, said air gap being closed at one end and covered with a membrane at the other end, said membrane covering the sound pipe as well. The pressure medium feed pipe is provided with a bore opening into the air gap, and the membrane is fixed on the peripheral surface of the pressure medium feed pipe.
There are several horns of the art, wherein the sound is produced by a membrane, which is vibrated by a pressure fluid, generally air. Such horns are generally used as ship horns or sirens etc. Accordingly, these horns are of considerable dimensions and weight, thus a relatively high pressure is needed for producing a very strong sound.
On the other hand, horns are used on sport events or feasts (like New Year's
Eve), which horns are made of paper and are provided with a simple whistle. The sound, however, produced by such horns is rather poor.
WO93/09530 discloses a horn for sport-fans, wherein the membrane is made of plastic foil, which is stretched out on the front face of a pressure tube, and rests on a sound tube as well, which sound tube is arranged within said pressure tube. There is a sound hole in the wall of the pressure tube, opening into the annular gap between the pressure tube and the sound tube.
According to the above document (WO93/09530), a retainer ring 5 is arranged on the outer surface of the pressure tube 1 and stretches the membrane 4 thereon. With respect to the sound producing, this construction does not differ from the advertising horn according to the present invention, but has a drawback, that the construction determinates the outer design of the product, as the retaining ring produces a significant discontinuity/unevenness on the outer surface of the product.
Therefore, the horn cannot be shaped in any desired form, e.g. as a bottle, which has smooth contour all around. There is a possibility to form the outer surface without unevenness, by bulbing the end of the pressure tube 1 facing the membrane 4 and providing in this way a staggered abutment for the retainer ring 5. However, the wall of the pressure tube would have then a part with rather big local wall thickness, which would result in serious problems in the manufacturing process.
The present invention is aimed to eliminate this difficulty arising from the above contradicting requirements.
The horn according to WO93/09530 can produce an astonishingly strong sound with respect to its dimensions and weight, and is very popular among the sport fans of sport events, mainly football games. However, a new demand was arising to provide a horn for advertising or promotional purposes, which is of more reduced dimensions, but produces strong sound. The sport horn according to the WO93/09530 cannot be applied for such purposes, for many reasons.
One of the reasons is that producing the strong sound with a horn of rather small dimensions is difficult. On the other hand, manufacturing problems are arising, when the horn is used as a sales promotion gift and has to have a special shape, e.g. the form of a bottle for non alcoholic drink. In such cases, the presence of a retaining ring on the pressure tube is rather disturbing, as it does not follow the desired shape. However, if the retaining ring should be produced in a form following the desired shape, i.e. to meet the pressure tube with butt joint, the wall thickness of the pressure tube should be increased at least locally, which makes the manufacturing difficult and expensive.
Therefore, object of the present invention is to provide an advertising horn, which can be manufactured in very small dimensions, can produce appropriate string sound and may be manufactured simply and cheaply.
Briefly, according to the present invention, these and other objectives are achieved by means of an advertising horn, which is provided with a pressure medium feed pipe and a sound pipe arranged within said feed pipe, wherein there is an air gap between the feed pipe and the sound pipe, said air gap being closed at one end and covered with a membrane at the other end, said membrane covering the sound pipe as well; the pressure medium feed pipe is provided with a bore opening into the air gap and the membrane is fixed on the peripheral surface of the pressure medium feed pipe, wherein a fastening ring holding said membrane is coupled to a distance ring, which is arranged on the inner surface of the pressure medium feed pipe.
The outer surface of the distance ring together with the outer surface of the pressure medium feed pipe have a common continuous smooth surface without any protrusion, according to the present construction, and - at the same time - the pressure medium feed pipe may have a uniform wall thickness.
According to a preferred embodiment the membrane is made of gum, and the end of the distance ring, facing the membrane is rounded.
Further details of the invention will be explained by way of an example, with reference to the accompanying drawing. In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is the longitudinal section of a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
The embodiment on the drawing comprises a pressure medium feed pipe 1, a sound pipe 2 arranged within said feed pipe, a membrane 4 and a fastening ring 5. The pressure medium feed pipe 1 and the sound pipe 2 are arranged coaxially, and there is an air gap 3 between the feed pipe and the sound pipe. The air gap 3 is closed at one end (left end on the drawing) by the concurrent pipes 1 and 2, and is covered with the membrane 4 at the other end. The membrane 4 is pressed on the peripheral surface of a distance ring 6 by the fastening ring 5. The distance ring 6 is held by the inner surface of the pressure medium feed pipe 1, and the membrane 4 is stretched out on the peripheral surface of the distance ring 6 by the fastening ring 5.
The pressure medium is pressed through a bore 7 in the wall of the pressure medium feed pipe 1 into the air gap 3 for producing the sound. The membrane 4 is fixed on the sound tube in a pre-stretched state. The end of the sound tube, opposite to the membrane 4 is open.
The distance ring 6 is seated on the inner surface of the pressure medium feed pipe 1, and the membrane 4 is pressed to the outer surface of this distance ring 6 by the fastening ring 5. In this way, the pressure medium feed pipe 1 and the fastening ring 5 can be assembled without any break on their common outer surface, enabling to manufacture small horns with any desired shape, without difficulties and additional costs.
The end of the distance ring 6, facing the membrane 4 is preferably rounded, in order to avoid any damage of the membrane 4.
The membrane applied in the horn according to the WO93/09530 is generally plastic foil having a thickness of 0.01 to 2 mm. In horns of small dimensions, however, such type of membranes does not produce appropriate sound. Applicant has found that membranes made of gum can be applied in such horns.
Whereas a particular embodiment of the invention has described above for purpose of illustration, it will be evident to those skilled in the art that numerous variations in the shape may be made without departing from the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Anyway, the construction according to the invention offers the advantage of a manufacturing with less cost, more simple assemblage and smaller dimensions with respect to the known horns.
