Description

Apparatus for filling a storing region and method of filling a storing region
The object of the application is an apparatus for filling a storing region and a method of filling a storing region used in the tobacco industry.
Starting-up the production is an extremely important issue in the tobacco industry. A generally known expectation of the manufacturers is bringing the machines to the full production capacity in the shortest possible time, with a minimum amount of waste being created when starting-up the production. One of such aspects is the first feeding of semi-finished products in order to start the operation of the machines at a very low capacity. The semi-finished products, including ready cigarettes constituting the largest part of the production cost, during the start-up of the machines constitute the production waste because they are frequently damaged due to the unstable flow of the semi-finished products. Only after stabilizing all parameters of the operation, e.g. on a packing machine, the product in the form of cigarette packets is accepted as a product which can be admitted for sale. The problem of the first filling concerns also indirect processes during the production which include filling of the trays with rod like articles such as cigarettes, filter rods, cigarillos or cigars. The rod-like articles are very frequently stored in one chamber trays or multi-chamber trays, whereas the latter are also called multi-segment trays. The trays are used for conveying the rod like articles between the machines or for their temporary storage in stores. During the start-up of production, in case of the start of the apparatus for filling multi- segment trays it is necessary to fill all operating regions and feeding channels with the rod like articles. In case of a manual first filling it happens that a part of the rod like articles falls out of the multi-segment tray filling apparatus or is damaged because the operator is not able to simultaneously control all articles fed to large operating regions. A very important aspect is to efficiently carry out the first filling; it is expected for such a process to be automatically executed by units specially designed for that purpose. A solution concerning a region storing the cigarettes before feeding them for packing in a packing machine is known from the state of the art. In the EP 1 020 126 A1 document, a solution comprising a plurality of successively started units was revealed the purpose of which was to enable the process to take place without the participation of the operator.
The subject matter of the invention is an apparatus for filling a storing region comprising a supporting element of a configuration corresponding to the configuration of a storing region, a fastening bar on which the supporting element is installed in such a way as to enable the supporting element to move relative to the fastening bar. The fastening bar is attached in such a way as to enable the move relative to the storing region. An apparatus according to the invention furthermore comprises the holding element and is characterised in that in a waiting position the supporting element is situated above the storing region.
Furthermore, an apparatus according to the invention is characterised in that the supporting element in addition comprises an auxiliary supporting element which is adapted to be elevated above the supporting element.
Furthermore, an apparatus according to the invention is characterised in that the supporting element is inclined at an angle with respect to the bottom of the storing region.
The subject matter of the invention is also a method of filling a storing region comprising the following steps in which the apparatus is lowered from a waiting position to an inserting position, the apparatus is inserted into the storing region in a successive position, the rod like articles are delivered above the apparatus, the apparatus is lowered towards the bottom of the storing region to a successive position, in this position the apparatus is moved out of the storing region to a successive position, the apparatus is lifted to the waiting position.
Furthermore, a filling method according to the invention is characterised in that after bringing the apparatus to an intermediate position the auxiliary element supporting the apparatus is lifted to a successive intermediate position, and then after delivering the rod like articles above the apparatus the auxiliary supporting element is lowered to a successive intermediate position. The solution according to the invention has the following advantages:
• The height from which the rod-like articles fall onto the supporting element is reduced to the maximum extent.
• In the waiting position the apparatus for filling the storing region is situated outside of the path of motion of empty trays delivered for filling and occupies a space which is usually not occupied by any unit. Adding this unit does not make it more difficult for the operator to operate the machine.
The object of the invention was shown in a preferred embodiment in a drawing in which:

Fig. 1 shows an apparatus for filling multi-segment trays 9 with rod like articles 2 provided with a filling hopper comprising a receiving region 1 for rod like articles 2 in the form of a mass flow 50 and a storing region 3 from which the rod like articles 2 are inserted into multi-segment trays 9. The storing region 3 has a plurality of double walls 4, spaced along their width, for receiving and enclosing partition walls 5 of a multi-segment tray 9 when filling the multi-segment tray 9 and two single side walls 6. The multi-segment trays 9 are delivered to the filling hopper along a conveyor 51 for empty multi-segment trays disposed on the back side of the apparatus, while the full multi-segment trays are conveyed along a conveyor 52 for full multi-segment trays, whereas the full multi-segment trays 9 can be picked up at the front or at the back of the apparatus.
Fig. 2 shows an apparatus for filling the multi-segment trays 9 with the rod like articles 2 together with an apparatus 7 for filling the storing region 3, in a first embodiment, disposed at the back side of the receiving region 1 for the rod like articles 2. The apparatus 7 in the first embodiment comprises a principally flat supporting element 10 of a configuration which allows inserting it into the storing region 3, i.e. it has sections 11 with the dimensions corresponding to the dimensions of the walls 4, whereas its width corresponds to the distance between the walls 6. The supporting element 10 is attached to a fastening bar 12 by guides 13. The guides 13 enable the supporting element 10 to move towards the inside of the receiving region 1 in order to insert the segments 15 of the supporting element 10 into the storing region 3 between the walls 4 and 6. The supporting element 10 is most frequently positioned horizontally, however, an inclined position of the supporting element 10 is also possible, e.g. in case of filling of the region 1 with the filter cigarettes which, when put in a pile, have a tendency to incline. The inclination angle is to be individually adjusted to particular cigarette brands. In turn, the fastening bar 12 is attached to the guides 16 enabling the fastening bar 12, thus the apparatus 7, to move in a principally vertical direction along the walls 4 and 6. At the fastening bar 12, guides 18 are situated to which a holding element 19 is attached which is necessary to hold the rod like articles 2 when moving out the supporting element 10. The holding element 19 has the form of a flat bar the minimum width of which comes to at least a half of the diameter of the rod like article 2, whereas the holding element 19 can also have the form of a set of teeth, each with a width corresponding to the distance between the walls 4. The guides 18 are principally situated parallel to the guides 13, although it is possible to situate them at an angle to the guides 13. For reasons of simplification, all guiding elements were shown in the simplified form, whereas in reality they can be known slide or rolling guides. Furthermore, typical known drive units of the abovementioned units for effecting a linear movement were not shown. In Fig. 2 the apparatus 7 for filling the storing region 3 is situated in a waiting position, i.e. such position which makes a free movement of an empty multi-segment tray 9 towards the storing region 3 in the direction of the arrow 20 beneath the apparatus 7 possible.
In Figs. 3 to 10 the successive phases of filling of the storing region 3 with the rod like articles 2 by means of the apparatus 7 in the first embodiment are shown. As a characteristic element the front edge 30 of the supporting element 10 was assumed, with the said edge being situated at the point A in Fig. 3, the front edge 30 of the supporting element 10 is perpendicular to the plane of the drawing. The first phase of the process is lowering of the apparatus 7, including the supporting element 10, in order for the edge 30 to get to the point B (Fig. 4). The second phase is moving the supporting element 10 into the storing region 3 (the edge 30 at the point C in Fig. 5). Then the rod like articles 2 are delivered in the form of the mass flow 50 to the receiving region 1 and are placed onto the supporting element 10 at the top of the storing region 3 (Fig. 6). The next phase is moving the apparatus 7 downward the storing region 3, the edge 30 will get to the point D, whereas during this movement the rod like articles 2 are all the time delivered to the receiving region 1 and further to the storing region 3. In the situation shown in Fig. 7 the entire storing region 3 is filled with the rod like articles 2. The holding element 19 is pushed close to the rod like articles 2, after which the supporting element 10 is moved out of the storing region 3 as shown in Fig. 8, and the edge 30 will get to a point E. Then the holding element 19 is moved away from the rod like articles 2 (Fig. 9), after which the supporting element 10 and the holding element 19 of the apparatus 7 are moved to the waiting position (the edge 30 at the point A in Fig. 10). This way the storing region 3 has been completely filled with the rod like articles 2 and is ready for filling of the multi-segment trays 9.
Fig. 11 shows an apparatus for filing of the multi-segment trays 9 with the rod like articles 2 together with an apparatus 7' for filling of the storing region 3 in a second embodiment. The apparatus T has all elements with which the apparatus 7 in the first embodiment is provided, and in addition it has an auxiliary supporting element 21. The auxiliary supporting element 21 is attached to guides 22 enabling the auxiliary supporting element 21 to move in a principally perpendicular direction to the surface of the supporting element 10. The auxiliary supporting element 21 similar to the supporting element 10 has a configuration which allows inserting it into the storing region 3, i.e. it has sections 11' between the segments 15' of the dimensions corresponding to the dimensions of the walls 4, whereas its width corresponds to the distance between the walls 6. Similar to the first embodiment, angular positions of the supporting elements 10 and 21 are possible. In this embodiment, the holding element 19' is designed higher than in the first embodiment, and in addition it has a bend along the holding element 19' designed in order for the rod like articles 2, which are held by this holding element 19', not to be touched by a sharp edge in order that the rod like articles 2 in the storing region 3 are not damaged. The bottom part of the holding element 19' should have a width equal to at least a half of the diameter of the rod like articles 2.
In Fig. from 12 to 21 the successive phases of filling of the storing region 3 with the rod like articles 2 by means of the apparatus 7' in the second embodiment are shown. As a characteristic element the front edge 40 of the auxiliary supporting element 21 was assumed, with the said edge being situated at a point A' in Fig. 12, the front edge 40 of the supporting element 21 is perpendicular to the plane of the drawing. The first phase of the process is lowering of the apparatus 7', including the supporting elements 10 and 21 , in order for the edge 40 to get to a point B' (Fig. 13). The second phase is moving the supporting elements 10 and 21 into the storing region 3 (the edge 40 at a point C in Fig.14). The next stage is lifting of the auxiliary supporting element 21 in the connection area of the upper part of the storing region 3 and the bottom part of the receiving region 1 (the edge 40 at a point D' in Fig.15). Then, the rod like articles 2 are delivered in the form of the mass flow 50 to the receiving region 1 and are placed onto the auxiliary supporting element 21 (Fig. 16). The next phase is lowering of the auxiliary supporting element 21 to the supporting element 10 (the edge 40 at the point C in Fig.17), and then moving the apparatus 7' downward the storing region 3, the edge 40 will get to a point E', whereas during this movement the rod like articles 2 are all the time delivered to the receiving region 1 and further to the storing region 3. In the situation shown in Fig. 18 the entire storing region 3 is filled with the rod like articles 2. The holding element 19' is pushed close to the rod like articles 2, and then the auxiliary supporting element 21 and the supporting element 10 are moved out of the storing region 3 as shown in Fig. 19, and the edge 40 will get to a point F'. Then the holding element 19' is moved away from the rod like articles 2 (Fig. 20), after which the auxiliary supporting element 21 , the supporting element 10 and the holding element 19' of the apparatus 7' are moved to the waiting position (the edge 40 at the point A' in Fig. 21). This way the storing region 3 has been completely filled with the rod like articles 2 and is ready for filling of the multi-segment trays 9.
Fig. 22 shows an apparatus for filling of the multi-segment trays 9 with the rod like articles 2 together with an apparatus 7" for filling of the storing region 3 in a third embodiment. The apparatus 7" has an auxiliary supporting element 31 slidably mounted on the guides 23 disposed on a beam 24. In turn, the beam 24 is slidably mounted on the guides 13, similar to the supporting element 10 in the first and the second embodiments. The phases of the process of filling of the storing region 3 by means of the apparatus 7" are analogous to the process described for the second embodiment, whereas the supporting element 10 is not present.
