Abstract

A foaming oil composition comprising from 50 to 90% wt. oil component and from 10 to 50% wt. surfactant.

Description

COMPOSITION
The present invention relates to foaming compositions comprising oils. Despite the prior art there remains a need for improved foaming compositions comprising oils.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a foaming oil composition comprising from 50 to 90% wt. oil component and from 10 to 50% wt. surfactant.
The composition of the invention is a cleansing oil composition, capable of cleaning and conditioning the hair and avoids leaving the hair feeling so greasy that it requires further cleansing with a regular shampoo afterwards to remove excess oil.
Further the composition is preferably visually clear and has the look and feel of a hair oil composition.
Preferably, the oil component in the composition comprises an oil with a coefficient of friction of from 0.01 to 0.1 . This provides a composition which conditions the hair but does not leave it feeling greasy and lank.
The oil component in the composition preferably comprises a natural oil. Preferred natural oils include coconut oil, tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil and sunflower seed oil.
Preferably, the foaming oil composition comprising less than 5% wt. water, more preferably less than 2% wt. water and most preferably less than 1 % wt. water. Preferably, the oil component comprises an ester oil. Preferably, the oil component comprises from 5 to 100% wt. of the oil, ester oil.
Preferably, the oil component is selected from C4-16 alkyl ester of a C8-22 alcohol, C10-C16 triglyceride, isopropyl myristate, C8-20 alkyl benzoate and mixtures thereof.
Preferably, the surfactant is selected from alkyl ether sulphates, polyethylene glycol alkyl esters and sorbitan alk(en)yl. Preferably, the sorbitan alk(en)yl ester comprises an alkyl group having from 8 to 30 carbon atoms, preferably from 14 to 24 carbon atoms and most preferably from 14 to 20 carbon atoms.
Preferably, the sorbitan alk(en)yl ester comprises sorbitan trioleate.
Preferably, the alkyl ether sulphate comprises from 6 to 18 carbon atoms, preferably from 8 to 16 and most preferably from 10 to 14 carbon atoms.
Preferably, the polyethylene glycol alkyl ester comprises alkyl groups having from 6 to 18 carbon atoms, preferably from 8 to 16 and most preferably from 10 to 14 carbon atoms.
Preferably, the polyethylene glycol alkyl ester comprises on average from 1 to 10, more preferably from 2 to 6 ethylene glycol units.
Preferably, the oil component comprises coconut oil.
The composition of the invention may comprise any of a number of further ingredients including minor amounts of other ingredients commonly found in hair care compositions, such as antifoam agents, antioxidants, proteins, preservatives, keratin amino acids, UV inhibitors, fragrances, coloring agents, buffering agents, polyols, and other moisturizing agents. Generally these optional ingredients are included individually at a level of up to about 5% by weight of the total
composition.
Preferably, compositions of this invention also contain adjuvants suitable for hair care. Generally such ingredients are included individually at a level of up to 2%, preferably up to 1 %, by weight of the total composition. Among suitable hair care adjuvants, are:
(i) natural hair root nutrients, such as amino acids and sugars. Examples of suitable amino acids include arginine, cysteine, glutamine, glutamic acid, isoleucine, leucine, methionine, serine and valine, and/or precursors and derivatives thereof. The amino acids may be added singly, in mixtures, or in the form of peptides, e.g. di- and tripeptides. The amino acids may also be added in the form of a protein hydrolysate, such as a keratin or collagen hydrolysate. Suitable sugars are glucose, dextrose and fructose. These may be added singly or in the form of, e.g. fruit extracts. A particularly preferred combination of natural hair root nutrients for inclusion in compositions of the invention is isoleucine and glucose. A particularly preferred amino acid nutrient is arginine.
(ii) hair fibre benefit agents. Examples are: ceramides, for moisturising the fibre and maintaining cuticle integrity. Ceramides are available by extraction from natural sources, or as synthetic ceramides and pseudoceramides. A preferred ceramide is Ceramide II, ex Quest. Mixtures of ceramides may also be suitable, such as Ceramides LS, ex Laboratoires Serobiologiques. EXAMPLE
