Description
Verfahren zum Fertigen einer Hochvoltbatterie und Batterieanordnung Method for manufacturing a high-voltage battery and battery arrangement
DESCRIPTION: The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a high-voltage battery, in which a plurality of battery cells is coupled together. Furthermore, the invention relates to a battery arrangement with a plurality of battery cells coupled to one another. For example, in electric and hybrid vehicles, high-voltage batteries are used, wherein the voltage supplied by the battery, depending on the battery can be between 250V and 600V. As a result, a comparatively large electric power can be output from the high-voltage batteries with a comparatively low current, so that the current-carrying lines can have a comparatively small line cross-section. To provide a high voltage, individual battery cells are connected in series.
During battery assembly, battery cells are currently coupled together, which have a comparatively low state of charge. However, even with this low state of charge, the battery cells are classified as dangerous goods, so that when transporting the battery cells to a mounting location provisions for dangerous goods transport must be complied with. Also, it may in the handling of the battery cells to an electrical see short circuit of a single cell, which can lead to unwanted heating of the battery cell. If the battery cells having a low state of charge are electrically coupled to one another during assembly, voltages can also occur which are dangerous for humans. The handling of the battery cells in the manufacture of high-voltage batteries therefore requires great care and a suitably trained staff. US 2002/0 055 037 A1 describes a 12V alkaline battery with anodes of iron and cathodes of zinc. A plastic housing is divided by partitions into a plurality of compartments in which the respective electrodes of the individual cells are located. These single cells are electrically connected in series to provide the voltage of 12V. First, the electrical connections between the electrodes of adjacent single cells are made, and then the plastic housing is filled with an electrolyte. Object of the present invention is therefore to provide a method of the type mentioned and a battery assembly in which or in which a particularly low risk is given.
This object is achieved by a method having the features of patent claim 1 and by a battery arrangement having the features of patent claim 9. Advantageous embodiments with expedient developments of the invention are specified in the dependent claims. In the method according to the invention for manufacturing a high-voltage battery, an electrolyte is introduced into at least one of the battery cells only after the battery cells have been coupled to one another. This is based on the knowledge that only after the introduction of the electrolyte into the battery cell can use the electrochemical process, which leads to the construction of a voltage of the battery cell. If at least one of the battery cells is free of electrolyte, then handling this battery cell is less problematic with regard to a hazard. A risk of employees dealing with the production of the high-voltage battery due to excessive electrical voltage can thus be avoided. This also applies to a risk from potentially emerging from the battery cell hazardous substances, in particular the electrolyte itself. Also, no short circuit can occur at the electrolyte-free battery cell, which could lead to an undesirable overheating of the battery cell. In the invention, a cell stack comprising the battery cells is arranged in a housing of the high-voltage battery, and then the electrolyte is introduced into the at least one battery cell. This is based on the finding that only the filled with the electrolyte battery cell pressure builds, which can lead to bulging of the battery cell. Accordingly, the cell stack also does not need to be subjected to a pressing pressure which prevents bulging when the electrolyte has not yet been introduced into the battery cells. This simplifies the production of the high-voltage battery, since the battery cells do not need to be in the compressed state in the manufacturing or testing steps that take place before the electrolyte is filled.
After filling the battery cells with the electrolyte, a pressure builds up within the same while they are in the housing of the high-voltage battery. By this internal pressure, the battery cells are pressed against each other and against walls of the housing. Then, the pressing force necessary for preventing the further bulging of the battery cells is exerted on the battery cells by the housing, and a pressing operation by means of a separate pressing device can be dispensed with.
In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, electrical poles of the battery cells are first electrically connected to each other, and then the electrolyte is introduced into the at least one battery cell. By electrically connecting the poles with one another, it is possible to build comparatively high voltages if the battery cells already contain the electrolyte. However, if the battery cells are free of the electrolyte, then they can be interconnected without actually a high, possibly even lethally high, voltage is applied to the electrically interconnected battery cells. If, in this production step, at least one of the battery cells is free of the electrolyte, the danger associated with the electrical connection of the poles can be kept particularly low. If individual of a plurality of battery cells are not yet filled with the electrolyte, a lower than the maximum possible voltage occurs in any case.
Preferably, the electrolyte is introduced into all battery cells of the high-voltage battery only after the electrical connection of the poles with each other. In that case, all the battery cells of the high-voltage battery are also free of voltage during the electrical connection of the poles. The electrical poles of the battery cells can be electrically connected to each other by welding and / or by screwing with a contact element. Such joining methods, which introduce heat into the battery cells, are then less critical, since the not yet filled with the electrolyte battery cells are de-energized.
As further advantageous, it has been shown that the battery cells are charged for the first time as soon as they are coupled together and having the electrolyte. In known from the prior art manufacturing process, such a loading takes place before mounting the battery cells in the high-voltage battery. In the present case, on the other hand, the high voltages associated with the charging process occur for the first time in the manufacturing process, so that by then handling of the battery cells is comparatively simple and low in effort.
Preferably, the charged battery cells are discharged at least once during the manufacturing process and reloaded. Such operations serve, as well as a subsequent resting or aging of the battery cells, an improvement in the power output of the high-voltage battery during subsequent use, such as in a vehicle.
It may further be provided that, for the first time, at least one electrical variable of the battery cells is detected in the state of the battery cells coupled to one another and having the electrolyte. In this case, for example, it can be checked whether the individual battery cells provide the required voltage or whether electrical insulators provide the desired insulation. It can also be determined whether there is a desired potential difference between an electrical pole of a battery cell and the housing, or whether the differences in the potential differences are within a certain tolerance interval. It can therefore be determined whether a single battery cell is classified as faulty.
Finally, it has proven to be advantageous if a plurality of lithium-ion cells are coupled to one another to manufacture the high-voltage battery. A lithium-ion high-voltage battery is characterized in particular by the fact that, even after a large number of charging and discharging cycles, it can still provide almost the power of a new high-voltage battery. The battery arrangement according to the invention comprises a plurality of mutually coupled battery cells. The battery cells have a respective nominal voltage, which results in a high voltage when the battery cells are electrically coupled. In this case, a cell stack comprising the battery cells is arranged in a housing of the high-voltage battery, and at least one of the battery cells in the mutually coupled state is free of an electrolyte which can be introduced into the battery cells. As a result, the actual occurrence of a high-voltage, ie a voltage of more than 60V is avoided, and there is a particularly low risk of voltage even during assembly or when handling the battery cells.
The advantages and preferred embodiments described for the method according to the invention also apply to the battery arrangement according to the invention.

The features and feature combinations mentioned above in the description as well as the features and feature combinations mentioned below in the figure description and / or shown alone in the figure can be used not only in the respectively specified combination but also in other combinations or alone, without the scope of To leave invention. Further advantages, features and details of the invention will become apparent from the claims, the following description of preferred embodiments and from the drawing.
This shows process steps in manufacturing a lithium-ion high-voltage battery for a vehicle.
In a method of fabricating a high-voltage battery for a vehicle illustrated by the figure, individual lithium-ion battery cells are electrically connected in series to provide a high voltage, such as a voltage between 250V and 600V. Since a single lithium ion battery cell provides approximately 3.7V, a plurality of such battery cells are connected together to achieve the desired high voltage. In the present case, battery cells are used during assembly, which are not yet filled with the electrolyte necessary for the electrochemical reaction. First, in a step S10, battery cells which do not yet contain an electrolyte are arranged in a stack. Here, the battery cells are aligned, as it is favorable for the later attachment of busbars to the electrical poles of the battery cells. In a step S12, a position and an identifier of each battery cell are detected. As a result, in a later test step, battery cells classified as faulty can easily be found and replaced as required. Also, the battery cells are aligned from their altitude forth so that in a subsequent step S14, the electrical poles of the battery cells by attaching busbars can be easily connected to each other and forming a good electrical contact with the busbar. In this case, battery cells can be connected in series, or the electric poles of the battery cells can be connected so that the battery cells are electrically connected in parallel. Subsequently, in a step S16, the stack is introduced into a housing of the high-voltage battery, before in a step S18 the battery cells are filled with an electrolyte. By filling the battery cells with the electrolyte, an internal pressure builds up in the battery cells, through which they are pressed against each other and against walls of the housing. This pressing pressure ensures that the walls of the battery cells can not bulge further.
The battery cells can also be initially inserted loosely into the housing of the battery before their electrical poles are screwed to the busbars, welded and / or connected by gluing. Thus, step S16 may be performed before step S14, and then the battery cells are then filled with the electrolyte (step S18).
Only with the filling of the battery cells with the electrolyte electrochemical reactions can take place at the electrodes of the respective battery cells, which lead to the establishment of an electrical voltage.
In the present case, therefore, the steps of the manufacturing process preceding the filling (compare step S18) are particularly low in expenditure, since it is not necessary for Occurrence of high voltages, especially life-threatening high voltages, may occur. In addition, so short circuits are avoided, which could otherwise lead to an undesirable overheating of the affected battery cell and then possibly the adjacent battery cells. Even a risk from emerging from the battery cells electrolyte is so far avoided.
The first charging and subsequent discharging of the battery cells for the so-called forming thereof takes place in a step S20 only after the filling of the battery cells with the electrolyte. Also testing of the battery cells, that is to say the determination of electrical variables of the same (see step S22), takes place here only in the already connected state of the battery cells. In alternative embodiments, prior to filling (see step S18) the battery cells may be provided with the electrolyte of the stacks of the battery cells with a cooling device. However, the cooling device, such as a cooling medium through which a cooling medium can flow, can also be retrofitted before the stack of battery cells provided with the cooling device is surrounded by a housing hermetically enclosing the stack.
