Description

METHOD AND DEVICE FOR CONTROLLING OUTER TRAFFIC OF LOCAL AREA NETWORK AND COMPUTER-READABLE RECORDING MEDIUM RECORDING PROGRAM EMBODYING THE METHOD
The present invention relates to a technique of a plurality of terminals such as computer rooms, which are connected via a high-speed local area communication network, and an inner server that manages the plurality of terminals, to control a traffic when being network-connected to an external wide area communication network. Especially, the present invention relates to a technique to control a traffic when a user terminal downloads data including an online game execution file and its patch file and connects from a local area communication network to an external communication network.
As a recent game culture, especially an online game culture, gains popularity regardless of man and women of all ages, an online game industry is also rapidly developed. Additionally, due to the improvements of multimedia technology such as graphic technology and network infra, a recent online game becomes quite different from a typical game, so that it is expected that the development of an online game industry becomes greater for many years to come.
A recent online game is played in a multi-user based network game system. A representative example of a network game includes an MMORPG. A user as one person on a game obtains experience points through deals, cooperation, and a war with others, and experiences the game.
Additionally, besides the online game culture, a file that implements a specific function becomes varying according to the development of computer related technology. According to a recent trend, such a file is downloaded free or charged via online, and then, is installed.
The file size of software such as an online game is being drastically increased. In order to receive a file via online in the past, users directly access a download server that provides files, and then, download them. However, with the condition that a file is large and many users use it (for example, an installation file of an online game), when a method for directly accessing a download server and receiving a file is used, many users access the download server at the same time. Thus, a communication of a server may be overloaded, and according thereto, its operation may stop.
Moreover, in relation to the online game and its use, although a ratio of personal terminals such as home computers is increased, a ratio of predetermined places such as computer rooms is still actually high, where users play the online game with other persons.
The computer room includes terminals such as a plurality of computers installed in a predetermined place, and performs a communication with an external via a network shared by each terminal. The terminals in the computer room is connected to each other via a local area communication network, especially, and Inter Processor Communication (IPC). One computer room has at least one IPC network, and accordingly, a plurality of online games support a service that users play games using a connection via an IPC network in addition to a connection via internet.
A plurality of terminals installed in the computer room communicate with an external through a server or a network relay device. At this point, when a large size of data including online game installation files and patch files are downloaded from an external to a computer room, just after a management server for computer room or a network relay device is connected to an external network, overload on a network traffic may occur.
The present invention secures a stable operation of a local area communication network by minimizing a traffic between the local area communication network and an external communication network when a user terminal in the local area communication network including a computer room receives a specific download. Moreover, the present invention also improves a utilization ratio of the local area communication network including a computer room by improving a file reception speed to user terminals.
According to an aspect of the present invention, an external traffic controlling method of a local area communication network includes: searching for another terminal connected to a user terminal that request a file via the local area communication network; and checking whether the requested file is in the searched other terminal; and controlling the user terminal to receive the requested file from the searched other terminal if the requested file is in the searched other terminal.
The method may further include, if the requested file is not in the other terminal, relaying the requested file in order for the user terminal to receive the requested file from an external wide area communication network connected to the local area communication network.
The searching for the other terminal may includesearching for a terminal having an IP address whose partial address used for identifying the local area communication network is identical to that in an IP address of the user terminal.
The searching for the other terminal may includesearching a terminal that a server manages in access to the server in each local area communication network for managing a network connection of a terminal in the local area communication network.
The external wide area communication network may includeat least one of another local area communication network spaced from the local area communication network, a service supply server network, and a (Peer-to-Peer) P2P network including the user terminal.
The controlling of the user terminal may includeconfiguring a P2P network between the other terminal and the user terminal if the other terminal having the requested file is at least one and controlling the userterminal to receive the requested file via the configured P2P network.
According to another aspect of the present invention, an external traffic controlling method of a local area communication network includes: searching for another terminal connected to a user terminal that requests a file via a local area communication network; checking whether the requested file is in the other terminal; controlling the user terminal to receive the requested file from the searched other terminal if the requested file is in the other terminal; checking whether the requested file is receivable via an external P2P network including the user terminal if the requested file not is in the other terminal; controlling the user terminal to receive the requested file via the P2P network if the requested file is receivable via the P2P network; and controlling the user terminal to receive the requested file through a direction communication with a download server if the requested file is not receivable via the P2P network.

According to still another aspect of the present invention, a computer readable recording medium that records a program for implementing an external traffic controlling method of a local area communication network including searching for another terminal connected to a user terminal that request a file via the local area communication network and checking whether the requested file is in the searched other terminal; and controlling the user terminal to receive the requested file from the searched other terminal if the requested file is in the searched other terminal.
According to the present invention, when data including a file are received, an external traffic controlling device attempts to receive the data fromterminals in a local area communication network such as a computer room via the local area communication network. According thereto, when compared with the case that terminals request a file reception request to an external wide area communication networkand receives the file, a communication traffic from a local area communication network to an external may be reduced, so that an external traffic of a management server for local area network and a network relay device may be reduced. Moreover, since files are received via the local area communication network, a high-speed file reception speed for users may be guaranteed, so that a utilization ratio of a computer room in a local area communication network may be drastically increased.
The above and other features and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent by describing in detail exemplary embodiments thereof with reference to the attached drawings in which:

Hereinafter, an external traffic controlling method and device in a local area communication network and a recording medium for implementing the method according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Moreover, detailed descriptions related to well-known functions or configurations will be ruled out in order not to unnecessarily obscure subject matters of the present invention. Embodiments below are detailed description for providing more general understandings and do not limit the range of rights. Accordingly, other equivalent embodiments performing the same functions as the present invention are in the range of the rights of the present invention.
Hereinafter, like identification symbols refer to like elements, and unnecessary overlapping descriptions are omitted.
Moreover, in the description below, the file refers to all data that a user terminal may download via Peer to Peer (P2P) communication and other network connections. Especially, files are downloaded basically via P2P communication. The files may include a game program file and its patch file, which are downloaded through a game execution client and then installed in a user terminal in order to execute an online game.
Actually, in relation to a recent technique to download a file, a plurality of online game execution files are downloaded in direct access to a download server that stores the files. However, as a file size is increased, a technique for downloading files via P2P communication is recently applied.
Furthermore, besides the files for online game execution, it is apparent to those skilled in the art that all files downloadable using a P2P communication methodthat downloads each of blocks constituting files such as other general program files and media files from other user terminals are included in the files of the present invention.
The terms "communication", "communication network", and "network"mean the same in embodiments of the present invention. The above three terms refer a wire/wireless local and wide area data transmitting/receiving network that transmits/receives files between user terminals, other user terminals, and download servers.
Additionally, in the description below, the performing subject of an external traffic controlling method in a local communication network according to each embodiment of the present invention may be a server terminal for managing a network connection and status of terminals in the local area communication network or a hardware device added to a network relay device. Moreover, a computer readable recording medium that is stored in a server and implements a function of the present invention may be also the performing subject of the present invention.
The external wide area communication network includes at least one of a local area communication network spaced from another one, a network of a user terminal, a file download server network, a service supply server network, and a P2P network including the user terminal.
That is, the wide area communication network may include a local area communication network , terminals, and various servers, which are connected via another local area communication network and a Wide Area Network (WAN).
Fig. 1 is a flowchart illustrating an external traffic controlling method of a local area communication network according to an embodiment.
Referring to Fig. 1, the external traffic controlling method of a local area communication networkaccording to an embodiment of the present invention includes first searching for another terminal that is connected to a terminal of a user that request file reception via a local area communication network in operation S1.
A user terminal is to downloadfiles for execution through online, which have the types of the above-mentioned files such as include game execution files, media files, and other program files, and patch files. At this point, a file reception request signal is generated from the user terminal, and is transmitted to an external via a network.
At this point, since the user terminal belongs to a local area communication network, a file reception request is necessarily delivered to a management server for local area communication network or a network relay device.
Accordingly, on receiving the file reception request of the user terminal, the local area communication network first searches for other terminals connected thereto.
The searching of the other terminals connected to the local area communication network according to the embodiment of Fig. 1 refers to searching a terminal having the same partial IP address as the user terminal, which is used to identify the local area communication network.
When using a computer room as an example, a central management server manages franchise computer rooms with different original IP addresses. Therefore, terminals in the computer room also have different original IP addresses corresponding to the computer room. Besides the computer room, it is apparent to those skilled in the art that terminals belonging to the same local network have IP addressees having the same starting numbers.
Accordingly, when searching for other terminals connected via a local area communication network in operation S1, bysearching terminals having IP addresses whose five digits from the start correspond to those in the IP address of a user terminal, for example, the terminals connected to the user terminal via the local area communication network may be searched.
According to another embodiment of Fig. 1, through access to a server prepared in each local area communication network in order to manage a network connection of a terminal in a local area communication network, terminals may be searched by requesting a list of terminals that the server manages.
In the case of a computer room, a management terminal for computer room such as a computer at a guide or counter desk operates as a kind of a server, and information on a terminal, for example, information on charges, user login, an execution program of a terminal, an order, is integrally managed.
Therefore, in the case that the server receives a file reception request from the user terminal, if the user terminal requests a list of terminals that the management server in the local area communication network such as a computer room manages, other terminals connected to the user terminal via the local area communication network may be easily searched.
At this point, the list of searched terminals includes the IP addresses of the terminals, i.e., identification information used to access the terminals.
After the terminals connected to the user terminal via the local area communication network are searched through operation S1, it is checked in operations S2 and S3 whether there is a file that the user terminals is to receive in the searched other terminals in the local area communication network.
That is, when the user terminal is to receive a file, it is determined first whether receiving a file is available in the local area communication network. Through this, if the file is received via the local area communication network, the user terminals downloads the file at a very fast speed.
IPC, a representative example of a local area communication network, refers to a communication between processors in a local area communication network. In this case, a path is required for communication between two processors. For example, the IPC applying a high-speed shared memory between processors as a path may be used as a communication method in a local area communication network.
In the case of a communication method in the local area communication network, since a very fast data transmission speed is guaranteed compared to a wide area communication network, the file is received first via the local area communication network.
Accordingly, if it is determined that there is a terminal having a reception target file through operations S2 and S3, it is controlled in operation S4 that the user terminal receives a file from a terminal having the same in the local area communication network.
At this point, there may be a plurality of terminals having the file in operations S2 and S3. That is, there may be at least one terminal selected in operations S2 and S3. At this point, it is controlled in operation S4 to configure a P2P network between at least one searched terminal and a user terminal.
That is, since another terminal may receive each of a plurality of blocks constituting a file, when at least one searched terminal is searched, a filetransmission speed may become faster if a P2P communication method is used.
Accordingly, a P2P network is configured between searched another terminal and the user terminal and it is controlled that the user terminal receives a file through a P2P communication method via the configured P2P network in operation S4. Through this, a faster data transmission speed may be obtained in the local area communication network.
If it is determined that there is no terminal having the file on the basis of a determination result in operations S2 and S3, the user terminal transmits a file request signal to a wide area communication network, and through this, receives the file from a terminal in an external network in operation S5. That is, the user terminal receives thefile through the external wide area communication network. At this point, as mentioned above, the user terminal receives the file through connection to an external P2P network that the user terminals belongs or a download server network.
Fig. 2 is a flowchart illustrating an external traffic controlling method of a local area communication network according to another embodiment. In the description below, overlapping descriptions relating to Fig. 1 will be omitted.
Referring to the embodiment of Fig. 2, a file search request is received from a terminal in a local communication network, i.e., a user terminal, in operation S6.
Once operation S6 is performed, a management server for local area communication network or a network relay device transmits a request on confirming whether the file is stored to all terminals in the local area communication network in operation S7. That is, this is similar to searching a terminal having a file, but waits for a response from another terminal.
After waiting for a response on whether there is a file in operation S8, if the response that there is the file is received, a terminal having the file in the local area communication network is traced on the basis of an address in the response, and then, is connected to the user terminal. That is, it is controlled in operation S9 that the file is delivered via the local area communication network from the terminal having the file to the user terminal requesting the file.
If there is no response that there is the file, a request for transmitting the file to the user terminal is made to the external wide area communication network instead of the file reception request of the user terminal in operation S10, and then, it is controlled in operation S11 that the file is delivered from the external network to the terminal requesting the file.
That is, according to the embodiment of Fig. 2, the server performs a function for exchanging a file reception request and a network connection request with another terminal and an external wide area communication network instead of exclusively with a user terminal.
Fig. 3 is a flowchart illustrating an external traffic controlling method of a local area communication network according to another embodiment. In the description below, overlapping descriptions relating to Figs. 1 and 2 will be omitted.
In the embodiment of Fig. 3, it is checked whether there is a terminal having a file in a local area communication network in operations 12 and 13. That is, operations 12 and 13 are performed in correspondence to operations S1 to S3 of Fig. 1 and operations S6 to S8 of Fig. 2.
Through operations S12 and 13, if it is determined that there is another terminal having the file, which is connected to a user terminal via the local area communication network, it is controlled in operation S17 that the user terminal receives the file from the other terminal having the file via the local area communication network.
Moreover, if it is determined that there no terminal having the file, which is connected to theuser terminal via the local area communication network, according to the embodiment of Fig. 3, it is checked first in operations S14 and S15 whether there is the file in a P2P network that is connected to the user terminal via a wide area communication network. That is, it is checked whether there is another external terminal having the file connected via the P2P network in addition to an external communication network, not another terminal having the file connected via the local area communication network.
Searching a terminal in the P2P network is performed after searching a terminal in the local area communication network is performed first. Therefore, a traffic from the local area communication network to an external is controlled, and simultaneously, a traffic of a download server network that supplies a file is minimized.
Through operations S14 and 15, if there is a terminal having the file connected to the user terminal through the P2P network and the local area communication network, it is controlled in operation S18 that the user terminal receives the file from a plurality of other terminals through the P2P network.
Through operations S14 and 15, if there is no terminal having the file connected to the user terminal through the P2P network, it is controlled in operation S16 that the user terminal directly receives the file from the download server in connection with the download server.
Fig. 4 is a view illustrating a network structure according to an embodiment.
Referring to Fig. 4, a user terminal 100 belongs to one local area communication network L1 300. There may be a terminal having a file that the user terminal 100 wants to receive in the local area communication network L1.
The user terminal 100 may be connected to other external terminals 102 via an external wide area communication network or connected to inside terminals 101 via a P2P network P1 400. Of course, when searching a file via a P2P network is performed as a second operation in the embodiment of Fig. 3, it is apparent that there are no other terminals 101 having a file, which are connected to the local area communication network L1 300 and the P2P network P1 400. That is because that if at least one of the terminals 101 has a file, it is unnecessary to search terminals in the P2P network P1 in the second operation.
The user terminal 100 is also connected to the download server 200 via an external wide area communication network. The download server 200 refers to all recording media and servers that manage files that the user terminal 100 wants to receive.
Fig. 5 is a view illustrating a network structure according to another embodiment. In the description below, overlapping descriptions relating to Figs. 1 to 4 will be omitted.
The network structure of Fig. 5 includes a management device for local area communication network LS1 310. Although a relay means such as a network gateway is simply shown in Fig. 4, more specifically, according to the implementation of the present invention, there may be the management device for local area communication network 310 that manages a plurality of terminals in a local area communication network like a management terminal in a computer room.
The user terminal 100 may request a file reception to the management device for local area communication network 310. Also, the management device for local area communication network 310 may inquiry other terminals 101 therein about whether there is a file.
The user terminal 100 may be connected to other management devices for local area communication network LS2 311 and LS3 312, the download server 200, and other network 500 such as a P2P network by using an external communication network through the management device for local area communication network 310.
Fig. 6 is a view illustrating an external traffic controlling device in a local area communication network according to an embodiment. In the description below, overlapping descriptions relating to Figs. 1 to 5 will be omitted.
Referring to Fig. 6, the external traffic controlling device 10 in a local area communication network includes a file request receiving unit 11, a searching unit for local area communication network 12, and a network controlling unit 13. The external traffic controlling device 10 in a local area communication network may additionally include a connecting unit for wide area communication network 14.
The file request receiving unit 11 receives a file reception request of the user terminal 100 and information thereof. A description relating to the file reception request of the user terminal 100 was made with reference to Figs. 1 to 3.
The information on the user terminal 100 may include original partial address information (for example, five digits from the start in the IP address) of a local area communication network described with reference to Figs. 1 to 3, which is used for identifying a local area communication network, in the IP address of the user terminal 100, or identification information of a management server in a local area communication network, which manages a network connection of a user terminal.
The management server for a local area communication network refers to a computer room management computer and a local area communication network relaying device as mentioned above. Identification information on the management server for a local area communication network includes its IP address and its ID stored in a central management device.
The searching unit for local area communication network 12 searches for another terminal 101 connected to the user terminal 100via a local area communication network 300 by using the information on the user terminal 100, and also checks whether there is another terminal 101 having a file.
The searching unit for local area communication network 12 receives the information on the user terminal 100 from the file request receiving unit 11 in order to perform a function, and then, transmits a request signal for confirming whether there is a file to other terminals 101, and receives a response according thereto.
In order to search foranother terminal 101 connected to the user terminal 100 via the local area communication network 300, the information on the user terminal 100 is used. For example, the terminal 101 having the IP address whose partial address information used for identifying the local area communication network 300 is the same as that of the user terminal 100 is searched, or a terminal having the same identification information as the management server in the local area communication network 300 is searched.
The network controlling unit 13 controls the user terminal 100 to receive a file from the other terminal 101 if it is determined that the other terminal 101 has the file according to a search result of the searching unit for local area communication 12.
However, if itis determined that there is no file in the other terminal 101, it is controlled that the user terminal 100 receives the file from an external wide area communication network connected to the local area communication network 300.
That is, the network controlling unit 13 delivers a command to the connecting unit for wide area communication network 14 that relays a connection between the user terminal 100 and the external communication network in order for the user terminal 100 to receive a file from the external wide area communication network.
The user terminal 14 is connected to the P2P network P1 400 or the download server 200 through the connecting unit for wide area communication network 14, and thus, receives a file secondarily if there is no file in the local area communication network 300.
The connecting unit for wide area communication network 14 may first attempt to connect the P2P network 400 that the user terminal belongs and the user terminal 100. This is mentioned in the description relating to Fig. 3. Then, if the user terminal cannot receive the file through the P2P network 40, it is connected to the download server 200 to receive the file.
Fig. 7 is a view illustrating a file reception structure of a user terminal according to an embodiment.
Referring to Fig. 7, the user terminal 100 is first connected to other terminals 101 in a local area communication network 300 that the user terminal 100 belongs, and then attempts to search for and receive a file. If the file is unavailable, the user terminal 100 secondly attempts to request and receive the file in connection with a P2P network P1 400.
If receiving the file in connection with the P2P network P1 400 fails secondly, the user terminal 100 lastly attempts to connect to the download server200 in order to request and receive the file.
Through these stepwise request and reception operations, communication connection and file reception are attempted in the fastest and economical order, so that an external traffic in a local area communication network may be minimized.
As mentioned above, it is described that all components in the embodiments of the present invention are combined into one or combined for an operation. However, the present invention is not limited to the embodiments. That is, at least one of the components may be selectively combined and operates within the scope of the present invention.
