Definitions

  • This disclosure generally relates to the field of gaming. More particularly, the disclosure relates to games of chance.
  • An instant lottery game typically allows a player to determine if he or she has won the lottery game instantly and the exact amount of the prize won instantly.
  • the instant lottery game may be operated through a terminal at a lottery vendor.
  • the lottery vendor may have an instant lottery ticket dispensing machine that communicates with a central server.
  • the instant lottery ticket dispensing machine may determine the assortment of indicia on the instant lottery game ticket at the time the instant lottery game ticket is purchased.
  • the sale of terminal generated instant lottery game tickets may involve a phenomenon called palming.
  • palming When a player orders an instant lottery ticket at a point-of-sale location, the vendor may be able to quickly look at certain types of instant lottery game tickets and quickly determine if the instant lottery game ticket is a winning ticket prior to and/or during sale of the instant lottery game ticket. The vendor may then surreptitiously take that winning lottery game ticket for himself or herself and quickly provide the purchaser with another instant lottery ticket that may not be a winning instant lottery ticket. As a result, players may unfairly not receive their prizes. Further, potential instant lottery game players may be discouraged from purchasing instant lottery game tickets. Consequently, palming has functioned as a constraint on the sale of many terminal generated instant lottery games.
  • draw based games are often offered by lotteries.

  • the player may compare the set of numbers or symbols on his or her purchased lottery ticket with the set of subsequently drawn game winning numbers or symbols to determine if a prize winning match results after the comparison.
  • Many of the current draw based games simply lack excitement for the player as the player has nothing else to do to play the game other than make a comparison.

Description

MULTI-GAME PRIZE CONFIGURATION
BACKGROUND
[0001 ] 1 . Field
[0002] This disclosure generally relates to the field of gaming. More particularly, the disclosure relates to games of chance.
[0003] 2. General Background
[0004] An instant lottery game typically allows a player to determine if he or she has won the lottery game instantly and the exact amount of the prize won instantly. The instant lottery game may be operated through a terminal at a lottery vendor. For example, the lottery vendor may have an instant lottery ticket dispensing machine that communicates with a central server. The instant lottery ticket dispensing machine may determine the assortment of indicia on the instant lottery game ticket at the time the instant lottery game ticket is purchased.
[0005] However, the sale of terminal generated instant lottery game tickets may involve a phenomenon called palming. When a player orders an instant lottery ticket at a point-of-sale location, the vendor may be able to quickly look at certain types of instant lottery game tickets and quickly determine if the instant lottery game ticket is a winning ticket prior to and/or during sale of the instant lottery game ticket.
[0006] In addition, draw based games are often offered by lotteries. A player may purchase a ticket having thereon a set of numbers or symbols. At a subsequent time after the player purchases the lottery ticket, the lottery may perform a drawing. The drawing is a selection of a set of game winning numbers or symbols. Accordingly, the player may compare the set of numbers or symbols on his or her purchased lottery ticket with the set of subsequently drawn game winning numbers or symbols to determine if a prize winning match results after the comparison. Many of the current draw based games simply lack excitement for the player as the player has nothing else to do to play the game other than make a comparison.
SUMMARY
[0007] In one aspect of the disclosure, a process is provided. The process establishes, with a processor, a first lottery game and a second lottery game such that an entry into the first lottery game provides automatic eligibility for an entry into the second lottery game. The first lottery game is distinct from the second lottery game. Further, the process establishes, with the processor, a multi-game prize structure that includes a first lottery game prize structure, a second lottery game prize structure, and a combined lottery game prize structure. The first lottery game prize structure indicates a first lottery game prize that is won with a first winning match in the first lottery game. The second lottery game prize structure indicates a second lottery game prize that is won with a second winning match. The combined lottery game prize structure indicates a combined lottery game prize that is won with a first criteria match in the first lottery game and a second criteria match in the second lottery game. In addition, the process prints, with a lottery ticket printer, a first set of player indicia corresponding to the first lottery game on a lottery ticket. The process also prints, with the lottery ticket printer, a second set of player indicia corresponding to the second lottery game on the lottery ticket. Further, the process randomly generates, with the processor, a first set of lottery game indicia corresponding to the first lottery game. In addition, the process randomly generates, with the processor, a second set of lottery game indicia corresponding to the second lottery game. The process also performs, with the processor, a first comparison of the first set of player indicia with the first set of lottery game indicia. Further, the process performs, with the processor, a second comparison of the second set of player indicia with the second set of lottery game indicia. In addition, the process provides the first lottery game prize to a player that purchases the lottery ticket if a match according to the first lottery game prize structure results from the first comparison. The process also provides the second lottery game prize to the a player that purchases the lottery ticket if a match according to the second lottery game prize structure results from the second comparison. Further, the process provides the combined lottery game prize to a player that purchases the lottery ticket if a match according to the first criteria match results from the first comparison and a match according to the second criteria match results from the second comparison.
[0008] In another aspect of the disclosure, a computer program product includes a computer useable medium having a computer readable program. The computer readable program when executed on a computer causes the computer to establish, with a processor, a first lottery game and a second lottery game such that an entry into the first lottery game provides automatic eligibility for an entry into the second lottery game. The first lottery game is distinct from the second lottery game. Further, the computer readable program when executed on the computer causes the computer to establish, with the processor, a multi- game prize structure that includes a first lottery game prize structure, a second lottery game prize structure, and a combined lottery game prize structure. In addition, the computer readable program when executed on the computer causes the computer to print, with a lottery ticket printer, a first set of player indicia corresponding to the first lottery game on a lottery ticket. The computer readable program when executed on the computer also causes the computer to print, with the lottery ticket printer, a second set of player indicia corresponding to the second lottery game on the lottery ticket. Further, the computer readable program when executed on the computer causes the computer to randomly generate, with the processor, a first set of lottery game indicia corresponding to the first lottery game. In addition, the computer readable program when executed on the computer causes the computer to randomly generate, with the processor, a second set of lottery game indicia corresponding to the second lottery game. The computer readable program when executed on the computer causes the computer to perform, with the processor, a first comparison of the first set of player indicia with the first set of lottery game indicia. Further, the computer readable program when executed on the computer causes the computer to perform, with the processor, a second comparison of the second set of player indicia with the second set of lottery game indicia. In addition, the computer readable program when executed on the computer causes the computer to provide the first lottery game prize to a player that purchases the lottery ticket if a match according to the first lottery game prize structure results from the first comparison. The computer readable program when executed on the computer causes the computer to provide the second lottery game prize to the a player that purchases the lottery ticket if a match according to the second lottery game prize structure results from the second comparison. Further, the computer readable program when executed on the computer causes the computer to provide the combined lottery game prize to a player that purchases the lottery ticket if a match according to the first criteria match results from the first comparison and a match according to the second criteria match results from the second comparison.

[0042] A method, apparatus, and computer program product may be utilized to provide an instant lottery game and a draw based lottery game configuration. In particular, the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game that are both based on a set of rules of a playing card game. Examples of playing card games include poker, blackjack, or the like. In one embodiment, both the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game are based upon the same set of rules of the playing card game. In an alternative embodiment, the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game are based upon different sets of rules of the playing card game or different sets of rules of different playing card games. The instant lottery game provides a player with a set of player numbers at the time of purchase of the instant lottery game. The player may then utilize that set of player numbers to find a playing card hand within a randomly generated subset of a deck of cards that is printed on the ticket. After the player determines the hand of cards, he or she may instantly determine whether or not he or she wins a prize according to a set of rules of the playing card game. Accordingly, this configuration helps alleviate palming as a vendor at a point-of-sale location would be unlikely to be able to find the hand quickly enough.
[0043] Further, a random selection of draw numbers may be performed after the purchase of the lottery ticket. As an example, a lottery may utilize a ball hopper to randomly generate a set of draw numbers. All players may then see and/or hear about the set of draw numbers and find that set of draw numbers in each of their randomly generated subsets of the deck of playing cards. In contrast with a symbol matching jackpot game in which a player simply tries to match a quantity of symbols drawn by the lottery with his or her own symbols appearing on his or her lottery ticket, this configuration allows a player to utilize a set of draw numbers drawn by the lottery to find a hand of cards on a lottery ticket to play a card game. As a result, a player who enjoys a game of chance such as poker may have a heightened interest level in purchasing a ticket according to this configuration.
[0044] Any of the configurations provided for herein may utilize single pricing or multiple pricing for prize distribution. As an example, a player may spend one dollar to play the game for a single priced game whereas a player may have the option to play the game for one dollar or two dollars and win different prizes based upon the amount spent for purchasing the lottery ticket.
[0045] Further, any of the configurations provided for herein may utilize a single price for the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game or multiple prices for the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game. For example, a player may be able to purchase entry into both the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game for one dollar. Alternatively, as an example, the player may have to purchase entry into the instant lottery game for one dollar and an entry into the draw based game for an additional dollar.
[0046] Figure 1 illustrates an example of an instant lottery game and draw based game ticket 100 that is based upon a set of poker game rules. A player may purchase the ticket for a purchase price 102 of two dollars. The ticket has a set of player numbers that is randomly generated. As an example, the set of player number may be five numbers such as a first player number 104 that is eighteen, a second player number 106 that is three, a third player number 108 that is ten, a fourth player number 1 10 that is eleven, and a fifth player number 1 12 that is six. The ticket also has a randomly generated subset of a deck of playing card indicia 124. As an example, a deck of playing card indicia may be a deck of playing cards that includes fifty-two cards that are utilized to play poker. The randomly generated subset of a deck of playing card indicia 124 includes a subset of playing card indicia of those fifty-two cards that is less than fifty-two in quantity. As an example, the randomly generated subset of the deck of playing card indicia 124 may include four rows with the first row having six playing card indicia, the second row having six playing card indicia, the third row having seven playing card indicia, and the fourth row having seven playing card indicia for a total of twenty-six playing card indicia. Since each instant lottery ticket has a randomly generated set of player numbers and a randomly generated subset of the deck of playing card indicia 124, the odds are very low that two tickets will have the same randomly generated set of player numbers and randomly generated subset of the deck of playing card indicia 124.
[0047] In one embodiment, the randomly generated subset of the deck of playing card indicia 124 is printed according to the order of the random selection. For example, the Ace of Diamonds was randomly selected first and is, therefore, printed first in the randomly generated subset of the deck of playing card indicia 124. Further, as an example, the Seven of Clubs was randomly selected second and is, therefore, printed second in the randomly generated subset of the deck of playing card indicia 124. An order indicium indicating the order of the selection of the playing card indicia is also printed. As an example, since the Ace of Diamonds was randomly selected first, an order indicium of one is printed in the box of the Ace of Diamonds. Alternatively, the order indicium may be printed outside the box, in proximity, or in any other manner that indicates that the Ace of Diamonds was randomly selected first. Further, as an example, since the Seven of Clubs was randomly selected second, an order indicium of two is printed in the box of the Seven of Clubs.
[0048] Various other types of structures may be utilized to display the randomly generated subset of the deck of playing card indicia 124 on the instant lottery game and draw based game ticket 100. For example, grid structures with different numbers of rows and columns, grid structures with other types of shapes, or the like may be utilized. The player utilizes the set of player numbers to find corresponding order indicia in the randomly generated subset of the deck of playing card indicia 124. The player may then enter the playing card indicia in a first instant playing card indicia field 1 14, a second instant playing card indicia field 1 16, a third instant playing card indicia field 1 18, a fourth instant playing card indicia field 120, and a fifth instant playing card indicia field 122.
[0049] In one embodiment, the same randomly generated subset of the deck of playing card indicia 124 that is utilized for the instant lottery game is utilized for the draw based lottery game. For example, at a time subsequent to the player's purchase of the instant lottery game and draw based game ticket 100, a lottery may perform a drawing for a set of draw numbers. Each player of the draw based lottery game utilizes the same set of draw numbers to find corresponding order indicia in his or her own ticket with randomly generated subset of the deck of playing card indicia 124 that will most likely be different in the majority of instances for each player of the draw based lottery game. The player may then enter the playing card indicia in a first drawing playing card indicia field 126, a second drawing playing card indicia field 128, a third drawing playing card indicia field 130, a fourth drawing playing card indicia field 132, and a fifth drawing playing card indicia field 134. In another embodiment, separate subsets of the deck of playing card indicia are generated for the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game. [0050] In one embodiment, the randomly generated subset of the deck of playing card indicia 124 has to be a subset of the deck of playing card indicia 124 that is less in quantity than the deck of playing card indicia to keep the odds of wins in the instant lottery game relatively low and to keep every player from being a winner in the draw based game as all players utilizing the same set of draw numbers with a full deck of playing cards would result in all players being winners. In yet another embodiment, the subset of the deck of playing card indicia 124 may be the entire deck of the playing card indicia.
[0051] Figure 2 illustrates the instant lottery game and draw based game ticket 100 of Figure 1 with the instant playing card indicia fields after player input. For example, as the first player number 104 is eighteen, the player looks at the order indicium of eighteen in the randomly generated subset of the deck of playing card indicia 124 to discover a King of Hearts. Accordingly, the player may enter the King of Hearts in the first instant playing card indicia field 1 14. Further, as an example, as the second player number 106 is three, the player looks at the order indicium of three to discover a Three of Spades. Accordingly, the player may enter the Three of Spades in the second instant playing card indicia field 1 16. In addition, as an example, as the third player number 108 is ten, the player looks at the order indicium of ten to discover a Five of Diamonds. Accordingly, the player may enter the Five of Diamonds in the third instant playing card indicia field 1 18. As an example, as the fourth player number 1 10 is eleven, the player looks at the order indicium of eleven to discover a King of Diamonds. Accordingly, the player may enter the King of Diamonds in the fourth instant playing card indicia field 120. Further, as an example, as the fifth player number 1 12 is six, the player looks at the order indicium of six to discover a Ten of Clubs. Accordingly, the player may enter the Ten of Clubs in the fifth instant playing card indicia field 122. As a result, the player has a winning hand of a pair of Kings. The player then reviews the prize structure of the instant lottery game to determine what type of prize, if any, the player may win for the pair of Kings.
[0052] Figure 3 illustrates the instant lottery game and draw based game ticket 100 of Figure 2 and a set of draw numbers 302. As an example, the set of draw numbers may include the numbers six, fourteen, twenty-six, sixteen, and thirteen.
[0053] Figure 4 illustrates the instant lottery game and draw based game ticket 100 and the set of draw numbers 302 of Figure 3 with the draw playing card indicia fields after player input. For example, as the first draw number is six, the player looks at the order indicium of six in the randomly generated subset of the deck of playing card indicia 124 to discover a Ten of Clubs. Accordingly, the player may enter the Ten of Clubs in the first draw playing card indicia field 126. Further, as an example, as the second draw number is fourteen, the player looks at the order indicium of fourteen to discover a Four of Hearts. Accordingly, the player may enter the Four of Hearts in the second draw playing card indicia field 128. In addition, as an example, as the third draw number is twenty-six, the player looks at the order indicium of twenty-six to discover a Ten of Hearts. Accordingly, the player may enter the Ten of Hearts in the third draw playing card indicia field 130. As an example, as the fourth draw number is sixteen, the player looks at the order indicium of sixteen to discover a Four of Clubs. Accordingly, the player may enter the Four of Clubs in the fourth draw playing card indicia field 132. Further, as an example, as the fifth player number is thirteen, the player looks at the order indicium of thirteen to discover a Ten of Spades. Accordingly, the player may enter the Ten of Spades in the fifth drawings playing card indicia field 134. As a result, the player has a winning hand of Full House as the player has three matching cards of one rank, i.e., Ten, and two matching cards of another rank, i.e., Four. The player then reviews the prize structure of the instant lottery game to determine what type of prize, if any, the player may win for a Full House. A player may have similar playing card indicia from both the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game, but is unlikely to have the exact same hand for each game. In one embodiment, the number of playing cards is the same for both games. In another embodiment, the number of playing cards is different for both games, which would prevent any possibility of having the exact same hand for both games.
[0054] In one embodiment, any of the configurations provided for herein may be utilized such that play of the instant game automatically results in play of the draw based game. Figures 5A and 5B illustrate a process 500 in which entry into the instant lottery game provides automatic eligibility for an entry into the draw based lottery game. At a process block 502, the process 500 establishes an instant lottery game and a draw based lottery game that are both based on a set of rules of a playing card game such that an entry into the instant lottery game provides automatic eligibility for an entry into the draw based lottery game. Further, at a process block 504, the process 500 generates, with a processor, a random selection of a subset of a deck of playing card indicia concurrently with a purchase of a lottery ticket having the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game. As an alternative to any of the processors provided for herein, a random generation apparatus may be utilized to perform the random generation. In addition, at a process block 506, the process 500 prints, with a ticket printer, the subset of the deck of playing card indicia on a lottery ticket according to an order of the random selection and a plurality of order indicia such that each indicium in the plurality of order indicia has an association with a playing card indicium in the deck of playing card indicia to indicate an order in the subset of the deck of playing card indicia. Further, at a process block 508, the process 500 generates, with the processor, a random selection of a set of player numbers. In addition, at a process block 510, the process 500 prints, with the ticket printer, the set of player numbers on the lottery ticket such that each player number in the set of player numbers corresponds to one of the indicium in the plurality of order indicia. At a process block 512, the process 500 also provides an instant lottery game prize distribution to a player that purchases the ticket if an instant portion of the subset of the deck of playing card indicia associated with a portion of the plurality of order indicia that is determined by the set of player numbers corresponds to a first winning playing card hand according to the set of rules of the playing card game. Further, at a process block 514, the process 500 performs a random selection of a set of draw numbers subsequent to the purchase of the lottery ticket. A processor or a random generation apparatus may be utilized to perform the random generation. In addition, at a process block 516, the process 500 provides a draw based lottery game prize distribution to the player that purchases the ticket if a draw portion of the subset of the deck of playing card indicia associated with a portion of the plurality of order indicia that is determined by the set of draw numbers corresponds to a second winning playing card hand according to the set of rules of the playing card game.
[0055] Figure 6 illustrates a prize structure configuration 600 for the process 500 illustrated in Figures 5A and 5B. In one embodiment, the process 500 may be implemented with separate prize structures for the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game. Accordingly, an instant lottery game prize structure 602 may be utilized for the instant lottery game and a draw based lottery game prize structure 604 may be utilized for the draw based lottery game. As an example, the instant lottery game prize structure 602 allows a player to win a one thousand dollar prize for a Royal Flush, a one hundred dollar prize for a Straight Flush, a fifty dollar prize for a Four of a Kind, a ten dollar prize for a Full House, an eight dollar prize for a Flush, a five dollar prize for a Straight, a two dollar prize for a Three of a Kind, a one dollar prize for Two Pairs, or a Free Ticket for a Pair that is at least a Pair of Jacks in rank. Further, as an example, the draw based lottery game prize structure 604 allows a player to win a ten thousand dollar prize for a Royal Flush, a one thousand dollar prize for a Straight Flush, a one hundred dollar prize for a Four of a Kind, a twenty dollar prize for a Full House, a fifteen dollar prize for a Flush, a ten dollar prize for a Straight, or a four dollar prize for a Three of a Kind.
[0056] In one embodiment, any of the configurations provided for herein may be utilized such that eligibility for an entry into the draw based lottery game is determined based upon a criteria associated with the instant lottery game. For example, at least a certain type a playing card hand in the instant lottery game, e.g., at least a pair of Jacks, may have to occur in the instant lottery game for the player to enter the draw based lottery game. Another example of criteria is the player not having any win in the instant lottery game.
[0057] Figures 7A and 7B illustrate a process 700 in which eligibility for an entry into the draw based lottery game is determined based upon a criterion associated with the instant lottery game. At a process block 702, the process 700 establishes an instant lottery game and a draw based lottery game that are both based on a set of rules of a playing card game such that eligibility for an entry into the draw based lottery game is determined based upon a criteria associated with the instant lottery game. Further, at a process block 704, the process 700 generates, with a processor, a random selection of a subset of a deck of playing card indicia concurrently with a purchase of a lottery ticket having the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game. In addition, at a process block 706, the process 700 prints, with a ticket printer, the subset of the deck of playing card indicia on a lottery ticket according to an order of the random selection and a plurality of order indicia such that each indicium in the plurality of order indicia has an association with a playing card indicium in the deck of playing card indicia to indicate an order in the subset of the deck of playing card indicia. At a process block 708, the process 700 also generates, with the processor, a random selection of a set of player numbers. Further, at a process block 710, the process 700 prints, with the ticket printer, the set of player numbers on the lottery ticket such that each player number in the set of player numbers corresponds to one of the indicium in the plurality of order indicia. In addition, at a process block 712, the process 700 provides an instant lottery game prize distribution to a player that purchases the ticket if an instant portion of the subset of the deck of playing card indicia associated with a portion of the plurality of order indicia that is determined by the set of player numbers corresponds to a first winning playing card hand according to the set of rules of the playing card game. At a process block 714, the process 700 also performs a random selection of a set of draw numbers subsequent to the purchase of the lottery ticket. Further, at a process block 716, the process 700 provides a draw based lottery game prize distribution to the player that purchases the ticket if eligibility for the draw based lottery game is met and a draw portion of the subset of the deck of playing card indicia associated with a portion of the plurality of order indicia that is determined by the set of draw numbers corresponds to a second playing card hand according to the set of rules of the playing card game.
[0058] Figure 8 illustrates a prize structure configuration 800 for the process 700 illustrated in Figures 7A and 7B. As an example, the criteria for the player to be eligible for the draw based lottery game is that no wins can occur in the instant lottery game. In one embodiment, the criteria is implemented only for eligibility into the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game, which have independent prize structures that are solely based on the outcomes the particular game rather than also being based on the outcome of the other game. In another embodiment, the criteria is utilized for determining eligibility and prize distribution as the prize distribution of a particular game may depend on the outcome of that particular game and the outcome of another game.
[0059] To illustrate an example of separate prize structures, an instant lottery game prize structure 802 may be utilized for the instant lottery game and a draw based lottery game prize structure 804 may be utilized for the draw based lottery game. As an example, the instant lottery game prize structure 802 allows a player to win a one thousand dollar prize for a Royal Flush, a one hundred dollar prize for a Straight Flush, a twenty dollar prize for a Four of a Kind, a six dollar prize for a Full House, a five dollar prize for a Flush, a four dollar prize for a Straight, a three dollar prize for a Three of a Kind, a two dollar prize for Two Pairs, or a Free Ticket for a Pair that is at least a Pair of Jacks in rank. Further, as an example, the draw based lottery game prize structure 804 that has a criteria of no wins in the instant lottery game allows a player to win a ten thousand dollar prize for a Royal Flush, a two hundred dollar prize for a Straight Flush, a twenty dollar prize for a Four of a Kind, an eight dollar prize for a Full House, a seven dollar prize for a Flush, a five dollar prize for a Straight, or a two dollar prize for a Three of a Kind.
[0060] In one embodiment, any of the configurations provided for herein may be utilized such that an entry into the instant lottery game provides automatic eligibility for an entry into the draw based lottery game and a prize distribution of the draw based lottery game is based upon a criteria associated with the instant lottery game. As an example, a player may automatically be eligible for the draw based lottery game whether or not he or she obtains at least a Pair of Jacks in the instant lottery game, but will win a higher prize for a Royal Flush in the draw based lottery game if he or she obtains at least a Pair of Jacks in the instant lottery game than if he or she does not obtain at least a Pair of Jacks in the instant lottery game.
[0061] Figures 9A and 9B illustrate a process 900 in which an entry into the instant lottery game provides automatic eligibility for an entry into the draw based lottery game and a prize distribution of the draw based lottery game is based upon a criteria associated with the instant lottery game. At a process block 902, the process 900 establishes an instant lottery game and a draw based lottery game that are both based on a set of rules of a playing card game such that an entry into the instant lottery game provides automatic eligibility for an entry into the draw based lottery game and a prize distribution of the draw based lottery game is based upon a criteria associated with the instant lottery game. Further, at a process block 904, the process 900 generates, with a processor, a random selection of a subset of a deck of playing card indicia concurrently with a purchase of a lottery ticket having the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game. In addition, at a process block 906, the process 900 prints, with a ticket printer, the subset of the deck of playing card indicia on a lottery ticket according to an order of the random selection and a plurality of order indicia such that each indicium in the plurality of order indicia has an association with a playing card indicium in the deck of playing card indicia to indicate an order in the subset of the deck of playing card indicia. At a process block 908, the process 900 also generates, with the processor, a random selection of a set of player numbers. Further, at a process block 910, the process 900 prints, with the ticket printer, the set of player numbers on the lottery ticket such that each player number in the set of player numbers corresponds to one of the indicium in the plurality of order indicia. In addition, at a process block 912, the process 900 provides an instant lottery game prize distribution to a player that purchases the ticket if an instant portion of the subset of the deck of playing card indicia associated with a portion of the plurality of order indicia that is determined by the set of player numbers corresponds to a first winning playing card hand according to the set of rules of the playing card game. At a process block 914, the process 900 also performs a random selection of a set of draw numbers subsequent to the purchase of the lottery ticket. Further, at a process block 916, the process 900 provides the draw based lottery game prize distribution to the player that purchases the ticket if the criteria associated with the instant lottery game is met and a draw portion of the subset of the deck of playing card indicia associated with a portion of the plurality of order indicia that is determined by the set of draw numbers corresponds to a second playing card hand according to the set of rules of the playing card game.
[0062] Figure 10 illustrates a prize structure configuration 1000 for the process 900 illustrated in Figures 9A and 9B. As an example, the criteria may be at least a Pair of Jacks in the instant lottery game. Accordingly, the player may win certain a higher prize in the draw based lottery game if at least a Pair of Jacks was obtained, but a lower prize in the draw based lottery game if at least a Pair of Jacks was not obtained.
[0063] To illustrate an example, an instant lottery game prize structure 1002 may be utilized for the instant lottery game and a draw based lottery game prize structure 1004 may be utilized for the draw based lottery game. As an example, the instant lottery game prize structure 1002 allows a player to win a one thousand dollar prize for a Royal Flush, a one hundred dollar prize for a Straight Flush, a ten dollar prize for a Four of a Kind, a six dollar prize for a Full House, a five dollar prize for a Flush, a four dollar prize for a Straight, a three dollar prize for a Three of a Kind, a two dollar prize for Two Pairs, or a Free Ticket for a Pair that is at least a Pair of Jacks in rank. Further, as an example, the draw based lottery game prize structure 1004 that has a criteria of at least a Pair of Jacks in the instant lottery game allows a player to win a ten thousand dollar prize for a Royal Flush, a one thousand dollar prize for a Straight Flush, a one hundred dollar prize for a Four of a Kind, a fifteen dollar prize for a Full House, a nine dollar prize for a Flush, a seven dollar prize for a Straight, or a three dollar prize for a Three of a Kind if the player met the criteria of obtaining at least a Pair of Jacks in the instant lottery game. In addition, as an example, the draw based lottery game prize structure 1004 that has a criteria of at least a Pair of Jacks in the instant lottery game allows a player to win a five thousand dollar prize for a Royal Flush, a three hundred dollar prize for a Straight Flush, a twenty dollar prize for a Four of a Kind, a ten dollar prize for a Full House, an eight dollar prize for a Flush, a six dollar prize for a Straight, or a four dollar prize for a Three of a Kind if the player did not meet the criteria of obtaining at least a Pair of Jacks in the instant lottery game. In one embodiment, all of the prize distributions of the draw based lottery game are dependent upon a criteria that is based upon an outcome of the instant lottery game. In an alternative embodiment, at least one of the of the prize distributions of the draw based lottery game is dependent upon a criteria that is based upon an outcome of the instant lottery game and at least one of the prize distributions of the draw based lottery game is not dependent upon a criteria that is based upon an outcome of the instant lottery game. For example, if the criteria of a Four of a Kind in the instant lottery game is met, one or more of the draw based lottery game prizes may be a jackpot prize. As an example, if the criteria is not met, the draw based lottery game prizes would be five thousand dollars for the Royal Flush, three hundred dollars for the Straight Flush, and twenty dollars for the Four of Kind. In this configuration, the draw based lottery game prizes for the Full House, Flush, Straight, and Three of a Kind are not dependent on the criteria of the instant lottery game. Accordingly, as an example, the draw based lottery game prize for the Full House is ten dollars irrespective of the whether or not the criteria is met, the draw based lottery game prize for the Flush is eight dollars irrespective of the whether or not the criteria is met, the draw based lottery game prize for the Straight is six dollars irrespective of the whether or not the criteria is met, and the draw based lottery game prize for the Three of a Kind is four dollars irrespective of the whether or not the criteria is met.
[0064] In another embodiment, the criteria in any of the configurations may be based on outcomes in both the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game. For example, a player may win different types of lottery game prizes based on a combination of an instant lottery game hand criteria being met and a draw based lottery game hand criteria being met. The criteria may also be not having a win or a particular hand in either game. Further, in one embodiment, an additional prize level may be utilized that is based on a combination of outcomes in the games. [0065] In yet another embodiment, either the instant lottery game or the draw based lottery game may be implemented as a stand-alone game without the other game. For example, the instant lottery game may be implemented as an instant lottery game according to the instant lottery game configuration described herein without the draw based lottery game. Further, as an example, the draw based lottery game may be implemented as a draw based lottery game according to the draw based lottery game configuration described herein without the instant lottery game.
[0066] In another embodiment, another prize distribution may be provided for any of the configurations provided herein based upon the outcomes of the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game. For example, the instant lottery game may or may not give a prize for a certain instant lottery outcome and the draw based lottery game may or may not give a prize for a certain draw based lottery outcome, but a combined outcome prize distribution may provide a prize for a certain combination of outcomes in the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game.
[0067] The prizes provided for herein may be a variety of prizes. For example, the prizes may include fixed prizes, pari-mutuel prizes, progressive prizes, probabilities-based prizes, or the like.
[0068] The processes described herein may be implemented in a general, multi- purpose or single purpose processor. Such a processor will execute instructions, either at the assembly, compiled or machine-level, to perform the processes. Those instructions can be written by one of ordinary skill in the art following the description of the figures corresponding to the processes and stored or transmitted on a computer readable medium. [0069] A computer is herein intended to include any device that has a general, multi-purpose or single purpose processor as described above. For example, a computer may be a lottery terminal, a kiosk, a vending machine, a set top box ("STB"), cell phone, portable media player, or the like.
[0070] Figure 1 1 illustrates a block diagram of a station or system 1 100 that provides an instant lottery game and a draw based lottery game. In one embodiment, the station or system 1 100 is implemented utilizing a general purpose computer or any other hardware equivalents. Thus, the station or system 1 100 comprises a processor 1 102, a memory 1 108, e.g., random access memory ("RAM") and/or read only memory (ROM), an instant lottery game and draw based lottery game module 1 106, and various input/output devices 1 104, (e.g., audio/video outputs and audio/video inputs, storage devices, including but not limited to, a tape drive, a floppy drive, a hard disk drive or a compact disk drive, a receiver, a transmitter, a speaker, a display, an image capturing sensor, e.g., those used in a digital still camera or digital video camera, a clock, an output port, a user input device (such as a keyboard, a keypad, a mouse, and the like, or a microphone for capturing speech commands)). The input/output devices 1 104 also include a printer such as a lottery ticket printer that may be utilized to print a lottery ticket.
[0071] It should be understood that the instant lottery game and draw based lottery game module 1 106 may be implemented as one or more physical devices that are coupled to the processor 1 102. For example, the instant lottery game and draw based lottery game module 1 106 may include a plurality of modules. Alternatively, the instant lottery game and draw based lottery game module 1 106 may be represented by one or more software applications (or even a combination of software and hardware, e.g., using application specific integrated circuits (ASIC)), where the software is loaded from a storage medium, (e.g., a magnetic or optical drive, diskette, or non-volatile memory) and operated by the processor in the memory 1 108 of the computer. As such, the instant lottery game and draw based lottery game module 1 106 (including associated data structures) of the present disclosure may be stored on a computer readable medium, e.g., RAM memory, magnetic or optical drive or diskette and the like. [0072] The station or system 1 100 may be utilized to implement any of the configurations herein. For example, the processor 1 102 may be utilized to establish a game, operate a game, perform calculations, or the like.
[0073] A virtual device may be utilized to provide any of the games provided herein. For example, a virtual lottery ticket may be sold rather than a paper ticket. For instance, a player may be able to purchase an electronic version of a ticket through a computing device such as a computer, laptop, kiosk, cell phone, smart phone, personal digital assistant, or the like.
[0074] A variety of prizes may be utilized. The illustrated prize structures are utilized only as examples.
[0075] Different types of playing card games may be utilized for the instant lottery game and the draw based lottery game. As an example, Blackjack may be utilized for the instant lottery game and Poker may be utilized for the draw based lottery game. Further, different quantities of cards may be utilized for the same game or different games. As an example, the instant lottery game may be based on a set of rules for a five card poker game whereas the draw based lottery game may be based on a set of rules for a seven card poker game. Alternatively, the same quantity of cards may be utilized for the same game or different games. As an example, the instant lottery game may be based on a set of rules for a five card poker game and the draw based lottery game may be based on a set of rules for a five card poker game.
[0076] Other types of sets of rules of other games besides card playing games may be utilized. For example, a set of rules based on casino-based games other than card games such as a set of rules for a game that includes at least one flip of a coin, at least one dice roll, at least one roulette spin, and/or at least one of spin of a wheel may be utilized. In one embodiment, a prize distribution may be based on one set of rules of one type of game and a prize distribution may be based on another set of rules of another type of game. For example, a first prize distribution may be based on a dice roll and a second prize distribution may be based on a playing card game. In another embodiment, a prize distribution may be based on one set of rules of one type of game and a prize distribution may be based on the same set of rules of that game. In yet another embodiment, the same set of rules for the same game may be utilized, but different quantities may be utilized in different prize distributions. For example, a first prize distribution may be based on a single flip of a coin whereas a second prize distribution may be based on two flips of a coin. In another embodiment, the same set of rules for the same game may be utilized with the same quantity. For example, a first prize distribution may be based on a single flip of a coin and a second prize distribution may be based on a second flip a coin. The instant and/or draw based formats may be utilized for the same or different games. Further, in one embodiment, an additional prize level may be utilized that is based on a combination of outcomes in the games.
[0077] In an alternative embodiment, a combined prize structure may be utilized for two lottery games. Each of the two lottery games may have their own respective prize structures. In addition, a combined structure may provide an additional or an alternative prize if criteria are met in the two lottery games. For example, the criteria may be the winning criteria in the first lottery game and the second lottery game. Alternatively, the criteria may be criteria in the first lottery game that is distinct from winning criteria for the prize in the first lottery game and/or criteria in the second lottery game that is distinct from the winning criteria for the prize in the second lottery game.
[0078] Any two lottery games may be utilized. Both lottery games may be instant lottery games. Alternatively, both lottery games may be draw-based lottery games. As yet another alternative, one lottery game may be instant and the other lottery game may be draw-based. Both or either of the lottery games may be based on a set of rules of a playing card game or another game that is rule- based. Alternatively, the lottery games may be based on different sets of rules of the same playing card game or the same game that is rule-based. As yet another alternative, each lottery game is based on the set of rules of a different playing card game or a different rules-based game. Alternatively, neither lottery game may be based on a set of rules of a playing card game. For example, both lottery games may be based on a matching indicia without any rules regarding a playing card game or a rules-based game. Further, more than two lottery games may be utilized. The station or system 1 100 may be utilized to implement an of these configurations with a multi-game lottery module in place of the instant lottery game and draw based lottery game module 1 106.
[0079] Figures 12A and 12B illustrate a process 1200 that may be utilized to provide a multi-game prize structure for a paper-based lottery ticket. At a process block 1202, the process 1200 establishes, with a processor, a first lottery game and a second lottery game such that an entry into the first lottery game provides automatic eligibility for an entry into the second lottery game. The first lottery game is distinct from the second lottery game. Further, at a process block 1204, the process 1200 establishes, with the processor, a multi- game prize structure that includes a first lottery game prize structure, a second lottery game prize structure, and a combined lottery game prize structure. In addition, at a process block 1206, the process 1200 prints, with a lottery ticket printer, a first set of player indicia corresponding to the first lottery game on a lottery ticket. At a process block 1208, the process 1200 also prints, with the lottery ticket printer, a second set of player indicia corresponding to the second lottery game on the lottery ticket. Further, at a process block 1210, the process 1200 randomly generates, with the processor, a first set of lottery game indicia corresponding to the first lottery game. In addition, at a process block 1212, the process 1200 randomly generates, with the processor, a second set of lottery game indicia corresponding to the second lottery game. At a process block 1214, the process also 1200 performs, with the processor, a first comparison of the first set of player indicia with the first set of lottery game indicia. Further, at a process clock 1216, the process 1200 performs, with the processor, a second comparison of the second set of player indicia with the second set of lottery game indicia. In addition, at a process bock 1218, the process 1200 provides the first lottery game prize to a player that purchases the lottery ticket if a match according to the first lottery game prize structure results from the first comparison. At a process block 1220, the process 1200 also provides the second lottery game prize to the a player that purchases the lottery ticket if a match according to the second lottery game prize structure results from the second comparison. Further, at a process block 1222 the process 1200 provides the combined lottery game prize to a player that purchases the lottery ticket if a match according to the first criteria match results from the first comparison and a match according to the second criteria match results from the second comparison.
[0080] Figures 13A-13D illustrate various example prize configurations for a multi-game configuration. As an example, Figure 13A illustrates a combined prize configuration 1300 that is based on a first lottery game being an instant lottery game that utilizes a set of playing card game rules and second lottery game being a draw based lottery game that utilizes a set of playing card game rules such that the criteria for wining a combined prize is based on winning criteria of each individual game. The instant lottery game prize structure 1302 allows a player to win a one thousand dollar prize for a Royal Flush, a one hundred dollar prize for a Straight Flush, a fifty dollar prize for a Four of a Kind, a ten dollar prize for a Full House, an eight dollar prize for a Flush, a five dollar prize for a Straight, a two dollar prize for a Three of a Kind, a one dollar prize for Two Pairs, or a Free Ticket for a Pair that is at least a Pair of Jacks in rank. Further, as an example, the draw based lottery game prize structure 1304 allows a player to win a ten thousand dollar prize for a Royal Flush, a one thousand dollar prize for a Straight Flush, a one hundred dollar prize for a Four of a Kind, a twenty dollar prize for a Full House, a fifteen dollar prize for a Flush, a ten dollar prize for a Straight, or a four dollar prize for a Three of a Kind. In addition, as an example, the criteria for winning each of the lottery games may allow a player to win a prize from a combined prize structure 1306. In this example, the criteria is winning criteria from both lottery games. For example, a Royal Flush in the instant lottery game and a Royal Flush in the draw based lottery game allows the player to win a jackpot prize from the combined prize structure 1306, a straight flush from the instant lottery game and a straight flush from the draw based lottery game allows the player to win a prize of one million dollars from the combined prize structure 1306, and a four of a kind from the instant lottery game and a four of a kind from the draw based lottery game allows the player to win a prize of fifty thousand dollars from the combined prize structure 1306. In one embodiment, if a player meets the criteria for winning a prize from the combined prize structure 1306, which in this example also means that the player has won in both individual games, only the prize from the combined prize structure 1306 is provided to the player. In an alternative embodiment, the prize from the combined prize structure 1306 and the prizes from the individual lottery games are provided to the player.
[0081] As another example, Figure 13B illustrates a combined prize configuration 1325 that is based on a first lottery game being an instant lottery game that utilizes a set of playing card game rules and second lottery game being a draw based lottery game that utilizes a set of playing card game rules such that the criteria for wining a combined prize is distinct from the winning criteria of each individual game. The instant lottery game prize structure 1327 allows a player to win a ten dollar prize for a Full House, an eight dollar prize for a Flush, a five dollar prize for a Straight, a two dollar prize for a Three of a Kind, a one dollar prize for Two Pairs, or a Free Ticket for a Pair that is at least a Pair of Jacks in rank. Further, as an example, the draw based lottery game prize structure 1329 allows a player to win a twenty dollar prize for a Full House, a fifteen dollar prize for a Flush, a ten dollar prize for a Straight, or a four dollar prize for a Three of a Kind. In addition, as an example, the criteria for winning each of the lottery games may allow a player to win a prize from a combined prize structure 1331 . In this example, the criteria is not winning criteria from both lottery games.
[0082] In an alternative embodiment, the criteria for winning a prize in a combined prize structured may be based on a win in one of the individual games but a criteria other than a win in the other individual game. For example, the combined prize structure 1331 may be modified to provide a prize for a Royal Flush in the instant lottery game, which is not a winning prize in the instant lottery game, and a Full House, which is a winning prize from the draw based lottery game. In one embodiment, the player may only receive the prize from the combined prize structure 1331 without the winning prize from the draw based lottery game. In an alternative embodiment, the player may receive both the prize from the combined prize structure 1331 and the winning prize from the draw based lottery game. In another embodiment, multiple criteria may be utilized for each or both of the first lottery game and/or the second lottery game to determine whether or not a prize from the combined prize structure may be won. Those multiple criteria may or may not include criteria from the first lottery game and/or the second lottery game. For example, the combined prize structure 1331 may be modified to provide a prize for any Flush in the instant lottery game, which includes a winning prize for a Flush in the instant lottery game, but does not include a winning prize for a Royal Flush, and a Full House, which is a winning prize from the draw based lottery game.
[0083] As yet another example, Figure 13C illustrates a combined prize configuration 1350 that is based on a first lottery game being a lottery game that does not utilize a set of playing card game rules and a second lottery game being a lottery game that does not utilize a set of playing card game rules such that the criteria for wining a combined prize is based on winning criteria of each individual game. As an example, the first lottery game may be a game in which a player has to match seven numbers. Further, as an example, the second lottery game may be a game in which a player has to match six numbers. Either or both lottery games may be instant and/or draw based. The first lottery game prize structure 1352 allows a player to win a one thousand dollar prize for a six of six match, a one hundred dollar prize for a five of six match, a fifty dollar prize for a four of six match, and a ten dollar prize for a three of six match. Further, as an example, the second lottery game prize structure 1354 allows a player to win a ten thousand dollar prize for a seven of seven match, a one thousand dollar prize for a six of seven match, a one hundred dollar prize for a five of seven match, and a twenty dollar prize for a four of seven match. In addition, as an example, the criteria for winning each of the lottery games may allow a player to win a prize from a combined prize structure 1356. In this example, the criteria is winning criteria from both lottery games. For example, a six of six match in the first lottery game and a seven of seven match in the second lottery game allows the player to win a jackpot prize from the combined prize structure 1356, a five of six match from the first lottery game and a six of seven match from the second lottery game allows the player to win a prize of one million dollars from the combined prize structure 1356, and a three of six match from the first lottery game and a four of seven match from the draw based lottery game allows the player to win a prize of fifty thousand dollars from the combined prize structure 1356. In one embodiment, if a player meets the criteria for winning a prize from the combined prize structure 1356, which in this example also means that the player has won in both individual games, only the prize from the combined prize structure 1306 is provided to the player. In an alternative embodiment, the prize from the combined prize structure 1356 and the prizes from the individual lottery games are provided to the player.
[0084] As another example, Figure 13D illustrates a combined prize configuration 1375 that is based on a first lottery game being a lottery game that does not utilize a set of playing card game rules and a second lottery game being a lottery game that does not utilize a set of playing card game rules such that the criteria for wining a combined prize is based on winning criteria of each individual game. The criteria for winning a combined prize is different from the criteria for winning a prize in an individual game. As an example, the first lottery game may be a game in which a player has to match seven numbers. Further, as an example, the second lottery game may be a game in which a player has to match six numbers. Either or both lottery games may be instant and/or draw based. The first lottery game prize structure 1377 allows a player to win a fifty dollar prize for a four of six match and a ten dollar prize for a three of six match. Further, as an example, the second lottery game prize structure 1354 allows a player to win a one hundred dollar prize for a five of seven match and a twenty dollar prize for a four of seven match. In addition, as an example, the criteria for winning each of the lottery games may allow a player to win a prize from a combined prize structure 1381 . In this example, the criteria is different from the winning criteria from both lottery games. For example, a six of six match in the first lottery game and a seven of seven match in the second lottery game allows the player to win a jackpot prize from the combined prize structure 1381 and a five of six match from the first lottery game and a six of seven match from the second lottery game allows the player to win a prize of one million dollars from the combined prize structure 1381 .
[0085] In an alternative embodiment, the criteria for winning a prize in a combined prize structured may be based on a win in one of the individual games but a criteria other than a win in the other individual game. For example, the combined prize structure 1381 may be modified to provide a prize for a five of six match in the first lottery game, which is not a winning prize in the first lottery game, and a five of seven match, which is a winning prize from the draw based lottery game. In one embodiment, the player may only receive the prize from the combined prize structure 1381 without the winning prize from the second lottery game. In an alternative embodiment, the player may receive both the prize from the combined prize structure 1381 and the winning prize from the second lottery game. In another embodiment, multiple criteria may be utilized for each or both of the first lottery game and/or the second lottery game to determine whether or not a prize from the combined prize structure may be won. Those multiple criteria may or may not include criteria from the first lottery game and/or the second lottery game. For example, the combined prize structure 1381 may be modified to provide a prize for a three of six match or better in the first lottery game, which includes winning prizes for a three of six match and a four of six match in the first lottery game, but does not include winning prizes for a five of six match or a six of match, and a five of seven match, which is a winning prize from the draw based lottery game. [0086] the instant lottery game, which includes a winning prize for a Flush in the instant lottery game, but does not include a winning prize for a Royal Flush, and a Full House, which is a winning prize from the draw based lottery game.
