Abstract

The present invention relates to utility meters and to a means for providing power to a utility meter. More specifically the present invention relates to a method for recharging an internal power supply in a gas meter. A power supply system for a utility meter comprises a photovoltaic device connected to an internal power source of a utility meter, a light source provided at a distance from the utility meter, and light transmitting means arranged to transmit light from the light source to the photovoltaic device, wherein, in use, the photovoltaic device provides electrical energy to recharge the internal power source of the utility meter.
