Description of the invention
The invention will now be described with reference to the following non-limiting examples;
Figure 1 is a schematic representation of the identification process;
Figure 2 is a schematic representation of the registration process; and
Figure 3 is a schematic representation of the system for renting a vehicle.
An automated system for renting a vehicle, including registration of a user on a system, the system capturing biometric data of the user; identifying of the user by utilising the captured biometric data; permitting selection of the vehicle by the user, acceptance of all terms and conditions and payment of the outstanding funds, thereafter granting the user access to a key for the rented vehicle.
The registration of the user includes the capturing of the biometric data of the user on a database, the database typically including but not limited to a computer database, and said biometric data being any one or more of the group including finger prints; hand prints; the retina map; voice recordings; facial maps and the like. The biometric data is captured by the user by the use of a communication means, the communication means including but not limited to an internet connection.
The registration of the user includes the capturing of electronic data of the user onto a database, the database typically including but not limited to a computer database, and the electronic data being any one or more of the group including the driver's license of the user, the passport of the user and the like. The electronic data is captured by the user by the use of a communication means, the communication means including but not limited to an internet connection.
The registration of the user further includes the capturing of additional personal information of the user onto a database, the database typically including but not limited to a computer database, and the additional personal information being any one or more of the group including the address of the user; contact information of the user; e-mail address of the user; telephone and fax numbers of the user and the like. The additional personal information is captured by the user by the use of a communication means, the communication means including but not limited to an internet connection.
Furthermore, as an additional security measure, a digital signature and/or an electronic signature of the user is captured onto a database, the database typically including but not limited to a computer database.
In an embodiment of the invention, the registration of the user includes a computer system having access to a database of user information.
The identification of the user includes the identification of the user by a biometric identification means, the biometric identification means being any one or more of the group including fingerprint identification means; handprint identification means; retina identification means; voice recognition means; facial recognition and the like, typically being in the form of a scanner and/or a computer system having access to a database of user information. The identification of the user further includes the identification of the user by an electronic validation means used to validate identification documentation, the identification documentation being any one or more of the group including driver's license cards; passports and the like. The electronic validation means is typically a computer system having access to a database of user information.
The user selects a vehicle on registration, identification or prior to collection by use of a communication means including but not limited to an internet connection, and accepts all terms and conditions incidental to the renting of the vehicle.
The means used to provide payment of outstanding funds for the renting of the vehicle are any one or more of the group including a credit card payment; an internet transfer; a cheque payment and the like, and the payment of the outstanding funds for the renting of the vehicle granting the user access to the key of the chosen vehicle.
Upon payment of the outstanding funds, the key of the chosen vehicle is received from an employee of the rental car company, or via an electronic key safe, the electronic key safe allowing the user access to the key when the user's details are confirmed.
In an embodiment of the invention, the user is registered on the system, and upon rental of a vehicle, the identity of the user is confirmed and the user selects a vehicle; accepts all of the terms and conditions incidental to the renting of the vehicle; pays the outstanding funds for the rental of the vehicle and upon such payment, receives access to the key for the vehicle.
