Abstract
Thermal energy storage system using a heat storage device (10) com¬ prising: a housing (12); a container (14) for storing heat and trans¬ ferring heat, wherein the container is inside the housing, wherein the container has a length and at least two opposing ends, including a first end (20) and a second end; an insulating space (18) between the housing and the container, wherein the insulating space is at least partially evacuated so that the heat conduction by gas molecules in the insulating space is reduced; a thermal energy storage material contained inside the container; and a sufficient number of support members (22) connecting the container to the housing so that trans- lational movement of the container relative to the housing is substan¬ tially prevented; wherein the support members have one or more fea¬ tures that reduces the amount of heat loss from the container through the support members.
