Abstract

The method of the invention involves providing a vehicle with first and second electrical networks (1, 8). The first network (1) includes an electrical engine/generator (3), a reversible AC/DC converter (7) providing an output voltage Udc in a generating mode, and an electrical power storage element having a first voltage Ues across the terminals thereof. The second network includes an alternator (10) and a battery (9) having a second voltage Ulb lower than the first voltage Ues across the terminals thereof. In accordance with the invention, the electrical power storage element and the battery are disconnected from the first network or connected to the first network depending on the output voltage Udc. In addition, the voltage Udc can be controlled by a control strategy so as to match the voltage Udc to the voltage Ues or to the voltage Ulb when it is determined according to said strategy that the electrical power storage element or the battery is to be connected to the first network.
