Description

FENCE AND METHOD FOR ERECTING A FENCE
INTRODUCTION
This invention relates to a fence. More particularly, this invention relates to a fence for preventing access of a person into a specific area in the context of non-permanent installations. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for erecting a fence.
BACKGROUND TO THE INVENTION
It has been recognized for many years that fences or barriers provide an effective measure for preventing entry into premises or into a specific area. For example, unsolicited entry is discouraged by erecting a barrier in the outer periphery. While permanently installed fences or barriers usually allow an effective measure for preventing entry, it is to be noted that temporarily erected fences often exhibit lower safety standards.
The inventor is aware that temporarily installed fences are known in the art. For example, crowd control barriers are frequently used during political rallies, demonstrations, or other events in order to control large gatherings of people. Prior art crowd control barriers are fabricated from interlocking panels of steel, which are fixed to the ground level either by means of supporting stands or by engaging poles of the fence into concrete blocks.
Occasionally, a demand exists for erecting a high-security fence on short notice. This may happen during sporadic gatherings like unannounced or unapproved demonstrations, which sometimes occur next to high security areas like governmental buildings, embassies or the like. Although the above described prior art fence systems could be used, it has been often recognized that their intrinsic security capabilities are limited and therefore a close observation and control by security personnel is required, which is sometimes not readily available.
Even worse, on some occasions fences may also be desired on an uneven surface, which often results in unfirm constructions. Accordingly, concerns about the reduced safety of prior art fence systems are even more pronounced.
Furthermore, prior art fence systems are bulky and therefore cumbersome to store, which also reduces their readiness for swift installations as several dispatch cycles might be necessary in order to deliver all required elements to the site to be secured.
What is therefore ideally required Is a fence or a method for erecting a fence, which address the above problems by providing a fast and secure installation.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
It is an object of the present invention to provide a fence, which overcomes, at least partly, the disadvantages associated with existing prior art solutions.
It is also an object of the present invention to provide a fence which is both novel and involves an inventive step.
Furthermore, it is an object of the present invention to provide a method for erecting a fence, which overcomes, at least partly, the disadvantages associated with existing prior art solutions. In this respect, it is also an object of the present invention to provide a method for erecting a fence which is both novel and involves an inventive step.
In addition, it is an object of the present invention to provide a kit-of-parts being erectable as a fence, which overcomes, at least partly, the disadvantages associated with existing prior art solutions.

The invention will now be described in greater detail by way of example with reference to the following drawing in which:
Figure 1 schematically shows a fence according to an embodiment of the invention in a perspective view;
Figure 2 schematically shows a fence according to an embodiment of the invention in a side view;
Figure 3 schematically shows an element of the fence according to Figure 2 in a side view;
Figure 4 schematically shows a further element of the fence according to Figure 2 in a side view;

Figure 6 schematically shows a fence according to an embodiment of the invention in a side view;
Figure 7 schematically shows an element of the fence according to Figure 6 in a side view; and Figure 8 schematically shows a further element of the fence according to Figure 6 in a side view.
Referring now to the drawings in particular the invention embodied therein will be described. In the drawing like reference numerals refer to like parts, unless otherwise indicated.
With reference to the accompanying drawings, a fence, in accordance with the invention, is generally indicated by reference numeral 10.
The fence 10 includes a first elongated member 12, a second elongated member 14, and a third elongated member 16.
The first elongated member 12 is pivotally connected to the second elongated member 14. The second elongated member 14 is pivotally connected to the third elongated member 16. The third elongated member 16 is releasably connected to the first elongated member 12. Accordingly, a substantially triangular shaped support structure 18 for erecting the fence 10 is formed such that the second elongated member 14 is facing a ground level 20 on which the fence 10 is erected.
The fence also includes a further first elongated member 12', a further second elongated member 14", and a further third elongated member 16', such that a further substantially triangular shaped support structure 18' for erecting the fence 10 is formed. Additional elongated members 12", 14" and 16" can be present in order to form additional support structures 18", as schematically indicate by the broken lines in Figure 1.
Horizontal members 22 are attached between the substantially triangular shaped support structure 18 and the further substantially triangular shaped support structure 18". As depicted in Figure 1 , three horizontal members 22 are located substantially parallel to each other. The first horizontal member 22 is located close to a respective end of the first elongated members 12 and 12*. The second horizontal member 22 is located close to the respective pivotal connection between the first elongated members 12 and 12* and the second elongated member 14 and 14*, respectively. The third horizontal member 22 is located close to the respective pivotal connection between the second elongated members 14 and 14* and the third elongated member 16 and 16' , respectively.
The pivotal connection between the first elongated member 12 and the second elongated member 14 is formed using a screw and a nut. However, other means like a bolt or a joint can also be employed. The connecting element is placed in corresponding holes or apertures of the first elongated member 12 and the second elongated member 14. Similar, the pivotal connection between the second elongated member 14 and the third elongated member 16 is formed. The releasable connection between the third elongated member 16 and the first elongated member 12 can also be formed through a screw, a bolt or a joint.
It is to be appreciated that the pivotal and/or releasable connections as outlined above merely serve as non-limiting examples and can also be formed in a wide variety of other ways, including using a clamp or by engaging into a respective one of a plurality of recesses. Other possible ways are known to the person skilled in the art.
By selecting the position for the releasable connection between the third elongated member 16 and the first elongated member 12, the substantially triangular shaped support structure 18 can be levelled to the ground level 20 on which the fence is erectable. This is outlined for three different positions of the third elongated member 16 in Figure 2, which results in an adjustable angle between the second elongated member 14 and a vertical line of -10, 0 or +10 degrees, as an example. Accordingly, the fence 10 can also be erected on an uneven surface. As shown in Figure 2, the first elongated member is further attached to a barrier member 24. The barrier member 24 includes a mesh, a plurality of wires or slats, a grill, or the like, in order to prevent a person from entry.
The first elongated member 12, the second elongated member 14 and/or the third elongated member 16 can be fabricated as longitudinal profiles. The longitudinal profiles can be fabricated as extruded profiles from aluminium or from metals, metal alloys or composite materials.
The first elongated member 12 can be 2 m to 6 m, preferably approximately 4 m, in length, as depicted in Figure 3. The second elongated member 14 can be 1 m to 5 m, preferably approximately 2.5 m, in length, as depicted in Figure 4. The third elongated member 16 can be 1 m to 4 m, preferably approximately 2 m, in length, see Figure 5. The substantially triangular shaped support structure 18 and the further substantially triangular shaped support structure 18' can be spaced by 2 m to 6 m, preferably by approximately 3 m. The plurality of apertures of the first elongated member 12 can be spaced by 0.1 m to 1 m, preferably approximately by 0.5 m. The horizontal members 22 can be 2 m to 6 m, preferably approximately 4 m, in length.
Furthermore, the third elongated member 14 can also be attached to a further barrier member 30 as depicted in Figure 6. The further barrier member 30 can include a mesh, a plurality of wires or slats, a grill, or the like. Furthermore, a support 28 for the further barrier member 30 can be attached to the third elongated member 16, as depicted in Figure 6.
In an implementation of the invention, a further protection means 26 can be attached to the fence. The further protection means 26 may comprise a bladed wire, a bladed tape concertina, a razor wire, a spiky metal reel, and/or an electrified wire so as to discourage unsolicited overcoming of the fence.
