The invention is implemented such that the insulation is formed from one or more insulation pieces (3, 4), which are arranged to guide air.
Description
REGULATING BOX FOR VENTILATION
The object of this invention is a regulating box for ventilation, for the supply air or for the exhaust air, which regulating box comprises at least one inlet branch coupling and also at least one outlet branch coupling, which are at an angle, preferably 90°, with respect to each other, and which regulating box is provided with noise suppression insulation. The invention thus relates to a regulating box for ventilation ducting, which regulating box is used e.g. before the terminal device for supply air, such as before a ceiling diffuser. A regulating box typically comprises one inlet branch coupling, which is connected to a duct, from which air flows into the regulating box. In addition, a regulating box comprises an outlet branch coupling, which is connected to a terminal device, such as a ceiling diffuser. Typically the inlet branch coupling of a regulating box for a ceiling diffuser is horizontal and it therefore connects to a horizontal duct. The outlet branch coupling of the regulating box is, for its part, aligned directly upwards, in which case it is at a 90° angle with respect to the inlet branch coupling. A regulating box can, of course, also be used in connection with the exhaust air.
The purpose of a regulating box is, in accordance with its name, to regulate the flow. A regulating box can also comprise means for adjusting and measuring the airflow. A regulating box can also insulate, in which case it also damps noise. The current invention relates more particularly to insulated regulating boxes.
Nowadays the insulation of a regulating box is performed such that e.g. a layer of insulating material, which can be e.g. polyester fiber, is installed on one or more walls on the inside of the box. The insulation is therefore on the edges and does not affect the flow and neither does it hamper the cleaning of the regulating box or ducting, which cleaning is performed from time to time via the branch couplings. The regulating box does not, however, comprise means for guiding the airflow, but instead guidance depends mainly on the shape of the regulating box. It is advantageous for the airflow coming into the room space that the air comes from the regulating box as straight as possible in the direction of the outlet branch coupling.
The aim of the present invention is to achieve an insulated regulating box, in which air is also guided as optimally as possible. The regulating box according to the invention is characterized in that the insulation is formed from one or more insulation pieces, which are arranged to guide air.
One preferred embodiment of the regulating box according to the invention, the inlet branch coupling of which regulating box is essentially horizontal and the outlet branch coupling of which essentially vertical and extends from the base of the regulating box downwards for a distance from the inlet branch coupling, is characterized in that an insulation piece is installed on the base of the regulating box before the outlet branch coupling, the front surface of which insulation piece is upward rising as viewed in the direction of the airflow.
Another preferred embodiment of the regulating box according to the invention is characterized in that the insulation piece is the shape of an essentially right-angled triangle in its cross-section and is installed such that the inclined surface is on the inlet side of the supply airflow.
Yet another preferred embodiment of the invention is characterized in that two insulation pieces are installed in the regulating box, the first of which is disposed before the outlet branch coupling in the flow direction of the air and is installed on the base of the regulating box and the second is disposed at the point of the outlet branch coupling and is fixed to the roof of the regulating box such that the front surface of the second insulation piece is essentially at a right angle with respect to the direction of the axis of the inlet branch coupling.
The advantages of the invention that can be mentioned is that the airflow can be guided in the desired direction more precisely than before out of the regulating box without, however compromising the sound damping
In the following, the invention will be described in more detail by the aid of some preferred embodiments with reference to the attached drawings, wherein
Fig. 1 presents a side section of a regulating box according to the invention.
Fig. 2 presents a top view of a sectioned regulating box according to the invention.
Fig. 1 thus presents an insulated regulating box to be connected to an inlet duct (not presented) for regulating the airflow and inter alia for damping the sound coming from the ducting. The inlet branch coupling 1 of the regulating box is connected to an inlet duct. The regulating box is suspended from the ceiling or from some other upper structure in an essentially horizontal attitude. Air flows from the inlet duct in the direction of the arrow A into the regulating box and leaves from it in the direction of the arrow B via the outlet branch coupling 2 into the terminal device and onwards from it into the interior space of the room or other corresponding space. The terminal device is preferably a ceiling diffuser, which is not presented in the drawings. The regulating box typically also comprises adjusting devices and measuring devices, but since they do not have any actual significance from the viewpoint of the invention, they are not presented in the drawings nor are they described in more detail in this context. Also the noise produced by measuring equipment and adjustment equipment is damped by means of the insulation. The described axes of the inlet branch coupling 1 and the outlet branch coupling 2 are at an angle, preferably essentially a right angle, with respect to each other.
In the embodiment example presented by the drawings, there are two insulation pieces 3 and 4 inside the regulating box. In this embodiment example, both are the shape of a right-angled triangle in their cross- sections and extend from the front edge 5 of the regulating box to the rear edge 6, as can be seen from Fig. 2. As viewed in the flow direction of the air, the first insulation piece 3 is disposed on the base 7 of the regulating box before the outlet branch coupling 2. The insulation piece 3 is installed such that its inclined side (front surface) 3' is towards the inlet branch coupling and its cross-section tapers upwards. A flow aperture, from which the airflow proceeds towards the second insulation piece 4, remains between the top edge of the first insulation piece 3
and the roof 8 of the regulating box. This second insulation piece is installed such that its one side is at a right angle with respect to the inlet direction of the airflow indicated by the arrow A. The insulation piece 4 therefore guides the airflow downwards towards the outlet branch coupling, from where it exits in the direction of the arrow B. The front wall 4' (as viewed in the inlet direction of the airflow) of the insulation piece 4 is essentially at the point of the center axis of the outlet branch coupling, or near to it, in which case the airflow is directed as much as possible to the center of the outlet branch coupling.
The cross-sectional shape of the insulation pieces, being that of a right- angled triangle, is practical because two identical insulation pieces having a cross-sectional shape of a right-angled triangle can easily be cut from one sheet of insulation. Polyester fiber, for example, which is easy to work, can be used as the insulation material.
It is obvious to the person skilled in the art that the invention is not limited to the embodiments presented above, but that it can be varied within the scope of the claims presented below. Thus, for example, the shape, number and placement of the insulation pieces do not need to be like what is presented, but instead other embodiments are possible. What is essential is to guide the air by means of the insulation as optimally as possible out from the outlet branch coupling and onwards into the terminal device.
