Abstract

The various embodiments herein provide a method and system for organizing menu on a smart device. The method includes downloading a menu organizer on the smart device. The user installs the menu organizer on the smart device and configures the menu organizer by defining a plurality of user defined parameters associated with the smart device. Further at least one user defined parameter associated with the smart device is identified. The menu on the smart device is then organized based on the frequency of usage of the menu and displayed on the smart device. The system includes a network, a central server in communication with the network and a database for storing plurality of user defined parameters and a menu organizing unit for automatically organizing the menu based on frequency of usage of the menu according to the plurality of user defined parameters associated with the smart device.

Technical field
[0001] The embodiments herein generally relate to smart devices and particularly relates to organizing custom menu on a portable smart device. The embodiments herein more particularly relates to automatically organizing and displaying at least one of an icon menu, a text menu and icon and text menu on the portable smart device.
Description of the Related Art
[0002] Smart devices such as mobile communication devices provide a number of features and applications including, for example, a phone application, a media player application, a mapping application, a calendar application, an email application, an instant messaging application, a text messaging application and other downloadable applications to the users. The navigation between various features and applications of the smart devices is often provided by way of graphical user interfaces having at least one of an icon menu, text menu and icon and text based menu. The menus are primary means of organizing most of the application's features according to the user preferences. However, there exist various limitations in displaying the menu icons.
[0003] At times because of display screen size limitation, the menu display is limited based on the display screen size and user's pattern of using applications may be quite different from the way menu is organized in the smart device. Further there exists a need for automatically organizing the icon menu, the text menu and the icon and text based menu based on frequency of the usage of the icon menu, the text menu and the icon and text based menu in various geographical locations. Moreover there exists a need to provide a method and system for automatically organizing the icon menu, the text menu and the icon and text based menu based on a plurality of events. Furthermore, there exists a need for automatically organizing the icon menu, the text menu and the icon and text based menu based on the device settings incorporated in the smart device by the user.

[0019] The various embodiments herein provide a method and system for organizing menu on a smart device. The method includes downloading a menu organizer on the smart device. Once downloaded, the menu organizer is installed and configured on the smart device. The user provides a plurality of user defined parameters including user preferences associated with the smart device. Further at least one of a user defined parameter associated with the smart device is identified. Examples of the at least one user defined parameter includes but are not limited to, a plurality of device settings incorporated in the smart device by the user, frequency of usage of the menu by the user, geographical location of the smart device and time indicated in the smart device and a combination of one or more parameters thereof. The menu herein includes one of an icon menu, text menu and icon menu and text menu. The menu on the smart device is then automatically organized based on the identified user defined parameter and displayed on the smart device. Examples of the user defined parameters include plurality of settings incorporated in the smart device by the user and frequency of usage of the menu by the user.

When the smart device is connected to a central server of a service provider through a network, the server suggests the user to download one of products and services relating to the frequently used menu on the smart device. The menu on the smart device are automatically organized based on at least one of a frequency of usage of the menu, time indicated in the smart device, geographical location of the smart device, plurality of device settings incorporated in the smart device by the user and also plurality of events such as a holiday event and the festival event defined by the user according to user preferences and a combination of the one or more parameters thereof.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENTS

With respect to FIG. 1, the system 100 includes a smart device 105 connected to a network 110. The smart device 105 can be replaced by any electronic device performing functions similar to that of the smart device 105. Examples of the electronic devices include but are not limited to computers, laptops, mobile devices, hand held devices, internet protocol televisions, and personal digital assistants (PDAs). The network 110 is a wireless network including at least one of GSM, GPRS, CDMA and EDGE. a). The smart device 105 is also connected to a central server 115 through the network 110. The central server 115 includes an emergency detection module 125 and a remote management module 130. [0043] The system provides for automatically organizing the menu structure including at least one of icon menu, text menu and icon and text based menu structure on the smart device based on user defined parameters. The user defined parameters is derived from at least one of a recent changes in the smart device settings, due to download of a new component/settings/application in the device, uninstalling one or more components/settings/applications from the device, time based settings done by user to have a particular set of icons/applications to be displayed and based on the profile settings selected by the user.

The emergency detection module 125 detects the smart device based on receiving a lost alert from a user of the smart device. The central server 115 also includes a database 120 for storing information related to a user's smart device 105 and information related to user defined parameters. The smart device 105 includes a plurality of components for automatically organizing menu on the smart device 105.
[0045] FIG. 2 is a schematic diagram illustrating the components of the system for organizing menu on a smart device according to one embodiment herein. With respect to FIG. 2, the smart device 105 includes a bus 205 for communicating information and a processor 210 coupled with the bus 205 for processing the information. The smart device 105 also includes a memory 215, dynamic storage device such as a random access memory (RAM) coupled to the bus 205 for storing information and instructions to be executed. The smart device 105 further includes a read only memory (ROM) 220 coupled to the bus 205 for storing static information and instructions for the processor 210. A storage unit 225, such as a magnetic disks and optical disk, is provided and coupled to the bus 205 for storing information and instructions.
[0046] The smart device 105 includes a display unit 230 for displaying information to a user. An input device 235, including at least one of an alphanumeric key and a touch screen is coupled to the bus 205 for communicating information to the processor 210. The smart device 105 also includes a communication interface 245 coupled to the bus 205. The communication interface 245 provides a two-way data communication coupling to network 110.. The communication interface 245 sends and receives at least one of an electrical signal, electromagnetic signal and optical signal that carry digital data streams representing various types of information.
[0047] The smart device 105 receives plurality of inputs through the communication interface 245. The inputs are processed by the processor 210. A menu organizing unit 250 provided in the processor 210 determines at least one of a user defined parameter associated with the smart device and automatically organizes the menu in the smart device 105. The smart device 105 is connected to the central server 115 through the network 110.
[0048] The various parameters on which the processor 210 analyses the user defined parameters for providing relative icon/text menu structure on the user's device includes one of a frequency of usage of the menu, time, geographical location, events, device settings, emergency situations and remote management settings of the smart device. In frequency of usage of menu structure, the menu structure changes based on the frequency of usage of various application. The time based menu structure changes in accordance with the change in time indicated on the smart device. For example, at the night time, the user gets different menu structure as compared to day time. The display unit shows different menu structure based on the geographical location of the smart device. The menu structure also gets organized based on various events such as holiday based menu structure, festival based menu structure, travel schedule based menu structure, meeting schedule based menu structure and the like. The menu structure also gets organized based on the device settings. For example, if the user sets a religious ringtone, the menu structure gets organized according to the ringtone. In profile based menu structure, the menu rearranges itself based on the profile settings such as general mode, silent mode, meeting mode and the like. The emergency menu structure gets activated in case the device is lost such that it prevents access to a third party from using the smart device. During remote management of the smart device, for instance, in case of a corporate phone user, the administrator/user can initiate a remote management action for the smart device that would detect the initiation of the remote management action and change the menu structure accordingly. Here the menu is at least one of an icon menu and a text menu. The menu organizing unit 250 includes a plurality of modules for automatically organizing menu on the smart device 105.
[0049] FIG. 3 is a block diagram illustrating components of a menu organizing unit provided in the smart device according to one embodiment herein. With respect to FIG. 3, the menu organizing unit 250 includes a timing module 301, a setting detection module 302, a location detection module 303 and a usage detection module 304. The timing module 301 determines time indicated in the smart device. The timing module 301 detects at least one of a day time, night time and organizes the menu on the smart device accordingly based on frequency of usage of the menu by the user during the day/night time. The setting detection module detects plurality of settings incorporated in the smart device by the user. Examples of plurality of setting includes profile settings, ringtone settings, volume settings, date and time settings, mobile phone settings, privacy settings and contact settings. A location detection module is provided in the menu organizing unit for locating geographical location of the smart device. The location module detects the location of the smart device through GPRS and arranges the menu on the smart device accordingly. The usage detection module determines frequency of usage of the menu in the smart device by the user. For example, if a user uses more of corporate related icons during day time and music and picture related icons during night time, the menu in the smart device gets organized and displayed on the smart device accordingly. [0050] FIG. 4 is a flow chart illustrating a method for organizing menu on the smart device according to one embodiment herein. With respect to FIG. 4, the user checks if the smart device includes an in built menu organizing unit (401). If the smart device includes an inbuilt menu organizing unit, the user activates the menu organizer. If the smart device does not include an inbuilt menu organizing unit, the user downloads a menu organizer application from a server to the smart device (402). The downloaded menu organizer is installed in the smart device (403). The installed menu organizer is then configured into the smart device (404). The user provides a plurality of user defined parameters during the configuration of the menu organizer (405). Examples of the at user defined parameter includes but are not limited to a plurality of device settings incorporated in the smart device by the user, frequency of usage of the menu by the user, geographical location of the smart device, time indicated in the smart device and plurality of events such as a festival, holiday and so on. When the menu organizer is activated, the menu organizing unit identifies at least one user defined parameter associated with the smart device (406). The menu on the smart device is then organized based on the frequency of usage of menu according to at least one user defined parameter identified (407) and is displayed on the smart device (408).
[0051] FIG. 5 is a flow chart illustrating a method for initiating a remote management action by a user based on receiving a lost alert of the smart device according to one embodiment herein. With respect to FIG. 5, the information based on lost condition of the smart device is communicated by a user (501) to a central server. The central server initiates (502) a remote management action on receiving a lost alert of the smart device. Further the server performs execution of the remote management action (503) to detect the smart device. Once the smart device is detected the menu is automatically organized on the smart device (504). The menu is organized such that the access of the smart device by a third party user is prevented (505). [0052] FIG. 6 is a flow chart illustrating a method for initiating a remote management action by a user based on a user's interest according to one embodiment herein. With respect to FIG. 6, a remote management action is initiated by a user based on their own interest (601). The user's interest is in turn based on one or more of frequency of usage of the menu by the user, time indicated in the smart device , geographical location of the smart device, device settings incorporated in the smart device by the user, events, profile settings, emergency conditions, and remote management services requested by the user.
[0053] Further based on the initiation, the smart device associated with a particular user is detected (602). The remote management action remotely analyzes the plurality of user defined parameters stored in the smart device (603). Based on the analysis, the menu organizer suggests a plurality of services to the user based on frequency of usage of the menu by the user which is in turn based on the user defined parameters (604). For example, if the user frequently uses one of a music player menu and an FM radio menu, the application suggests song download options to the user. Further, based on social occasions such as festival, the user is suggested with options like downloading divine songs, pictures at a cheaper rate. The menu in the smart device is automatically organized based on the suggestion accepted by the user (605). The organized menu is displayed on the smart device (606).
[0054] The various embodiments herein provide a method and system for automatically organizing menu in a smart device. When the smart device is connected to a central server of a service provider through a network, the server suggests the user to download the product and services relating to the frequently used menu on the smart device. The menu in the smart device are automatically organized based on the frequency of usage of the menu, based on time indicated in the smart device ,based on geographical location of the smart device also based on plurality of settings incorporated in the smart device by the user. The embodiments also provides for organizing the menu according to various events in accordance with the user defined parameters. The parameter selection based on frequency of usage of the menu to organize the menu on the user interface display provides for faster performance and improved user preference ratings. The organizing of the menu based on the user defined parameters reduces the time to select the frequently selected menu item by the user which also accounts for increased battery time.

CLAIMS What is claimed is:
1. A method for organizing menu on a smart device, the method comprising:
downloading a menu organizer on the smart device;
installing the menu organizer on the smart device;
configuring the menu organizer on the smart device;
defining a plurality of parameters by a user;
identifying at least one user defined parameter associated with the smart device; organizing the menu on the smart device based on the identified at least one user defined parameter; and
displaying the organized menu on the smart device;
wherein the menu on the smart device is automatically organized based on frequency of usage of the menu by the user in accordance with the at least one user defined parameter associated with the smart device.
2. The method of claim 1, wherein the menu includes at least one of an icon menu, a text menu and an icon and text based menu.
3. The method of claim 1, wherein the menu organizer is in built in the smart device.
4. The method of claim 1, wherein organizing the menu in a smart device comprises of:
determining at least one of the user defined parameter associated with the smart device;
organizing the menu on the smart device based on the at least one user defined parameter; and
displaying the organized menu on the smart device;
wherein the menu on the smart device is automatically organized based on frequency of usage of the user defined parameters.
5. The method of claim 1, wherein the user defined parameters comprises:
device settings incorporated in the smart device by the user;
frequency of usage of the menu by the user; geographical location of the smart device; and
time indicated in the smart device.
6. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
communicating information based on lost condition of the smart device by the user;
initiating a remote management action on receiving a lost alert of the smart device;
detecting the smart device based on execution of the remote management action; organizing the menu automatically on the smart device; and
preventing unauthorized access to the smart device by a third party user.
7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:
initiating a remote management action;
detecting the smart device based on the initiated remote management action; analyzing the user defined parameters;
suggesting a one or more services to the user based on the user defined parameters;
organizing the menu automatically based on the suggestion accepted by the user; and
displaying the organized menu on the smart device.
8. A system for organizing menu on a smart device, the system comprising:
a network;
a central server associated with a client in electronic communication with the smart device; and
a database provided in the central server for storing user defined parameters; wherein the menu on the smart device is automatically organized based on the frequency of usage of the menu by the user in accordance with the user defined parameters associated with the smart device.
9. The system of claim 8, wherein the user defined parameters comprises:
plurality of settings incorporated in the smart device by the user; frequency of usage of the menu by the user;
geographical location of the smart device; and
time indicated in the smart device.
10. The system of claim 8, wherein the smart device comprises:
a memory for storing instructions and information;
a communication interface in electronic communication with the network;
a processor;
a menu organizing unit provided in the processor to identify at least one user defined parameter associated with the smart device for automatically organizing the menu in the smart device; and
a display unit for displaying the organized menu on the smart device.
11. The system of claim 8, wherein the menu organizing unit comprises:
a timing detection module for determining time indicated in the smart device; a setting detection module for detecting device settings selected by the user;
a location detection module for locating geographical location of the smart device; and
a usage detection module for determining frequency of usage of the menu by the user.
12. The system according to claim 8, wherein the menu includes at least one of an icon menu, text menu and icon and text based menu.
13. The system of claim 8, wherein the central server includes an emergency detection module adapted to:
detect the smart device based on receiving a lost alert of the smart device;
organize the menu automatically on the display unit of the smart device; and prevent unauthorized access to a third party user.
14. The system of claim 8, wherein the central server further comprises a remote management module adapted to:
detect the smart device;
analyze plurality of user defined parameters; suggest plurality of applications to the user based on the at least one user defined parameter;
organize the menu automatically based on the suggestion accepted by the user; and
display the organized menu on the display unit of the smart device.
