Abstract

The invention relates to a nutritional supplement composition presented as chewable tablets and to the method by which it is obtained. The nutritional supplement, according to the invention, contains a mixture of vitamins A, C, B1, B2, B6, D2, H, PP, calcium in the form of gluconate and pantotenat, folic acid, lutein, Echinacea, soy lecithin mixed with a fatty base such as hydrogenated vegetable oil and excipients such as powdered milk, powdered sugar, flavoring agents. The method, according to the invention, consists of successively incorporating the powdered components into a portion of melted fatty base during continuous homogenization, followed by the passage of the mixture through a rolling device, producing an homogenous paste which is then mixed with the remaining melted fatty base and homogenized for 25... 30 minutes at a temperature of 35... 37 °C; the mixture is then placed in a tablet molding device.

Description

COMBINATION OF VITAMINS AND MINERALS
The present invention relates to a nutritional supplement composition which contains a mixture of vitamins and minerals incorporated in a fatty base, accompanied by various flavoring agents and presented as chewable tablets for oral intake, and the method of producing the nutritional supplement composition.
The invention has applicability in the pharmaceutical field.
There are known medicinal compositions containing vitamins A, Bj, B2, calcium pantotenat (RO 77096), vitamin mixtures as molded tablets containing vitamins C, Bl5 B2, D2 (RO 91976) and medicinal compositions in the form of capsules containing vitamins A, C, Bj, B2, B6, B12, D3, E, Ki (RO 118178 B).
The invention solves the problem of preparing a nutritional supplement containing a vitamin and mineral complex as chewable tablets, easy to dose and with pleasant tasting, unlike other currently used products that present themselves as hard tablets, coated tablets or capsules. The composition is also well tolerated by children and adolescents, being presented in an attractive form With various flavors such as (but not limited to) chocolate, vanilla or apricot.
The formula for one chewable tablet contains: Vitamin A (retinol acetate 1500000 IU/g): between 6 μg and 1275 g; Vitamin C (ascorbic acid): between 0.4 mg and 210 mg; Vitamin E (alpha-tocophery acetate): between 0.07 μg and 15 μg; Vitamin Bi (thiamin chlorhydrate): between 0.01 1 mg and 4.8 mg; Vitamin B2 (riboflavin): between 0.01 and 4.8 mg; Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine chlorhydrate): between 0.012 mg and 6 mg; Vitamin D2 (40000 IU/mg) (ergocalciferol): between 0.05 μg and 22.5 μg; Vitamin PP (nicotinic acid): between 0.16 mg and 54 mg; Calcium gluconate: between 13 mg and 3900 mg; Calcium pantotenat: 10 mg; Excipients (up to 5600 mg): fatty base (hydrogenated vegetable fat, such as 100% refined and hydrogenated palm kernel oil), vanillin, powdered milk, powdered sugar, chocolate/ vanilla/ apricot flavor, natural beta carotene extract, etc.
The following components may be alternatively added to the aforementioned basic composition: Lutein between 0.1 mg and 2 mg; Echinacea between 0.5 g and 3 g, Soy lecithin 250 mg, Vitamin H (Biotin) between 0.25 μg and 105 μg or Folic acid between 4 μg and 1500
This formula of nutritional supplement targets children and adolescents, adults, the elderly (above 65 years of age), pregnant and nursing women. Vitamin and mineral dosage can be adapted to specifically match the needs of every target category.
Here follows an example of the producing method of the invention.
The first step is to melt the fatty base: the necessary quantity of fatty base is minced and melted in the duplicator at 35 - 37°C.
The second step consists of preparing the vitamin powder mixture. The necessary quantities of liposoluble vitamins (vitamins A, D2, and E) are successively homogenized in a portion of molten fatty base. Calcium gluconate powder, powdered sugar and powdered milk are placed in a blending machine called "malaxator" along with vitamins B2, B6, C, nicotinic acid, calcium pantotenat, vanillin and chocolate/ vanilla/apricot flavors etc. and are homogenized for 10 - 15 minutes. The liposoluble vitamins and fatty base mixture is then added to the powder mixture and is homogenized for 10 - 15 minutes.
During the third step the mixture is put through a roller mixer having 3 rolls, setting the distance between the rolls so as to obtain homogenous paste layers.
As a final step, the paste obtained with the roller mixer is returned to the malaxator. The remaining melted fatty based is added to the mix in successive portions and homogenized for approximately 15 - 20 minutes. Then the paste is transferred from the malaxator to a storage vessel using a transvasation pump. Inside the storage vessel, this first lot of paste will be homogenized with a second lot of paste (prepared following the same steps described above), for 20 - 30 minutes, at a temperature of 35 - 37°C.
The paste obtained by homogenizing the two lots is then passed to the feeding container of the tablet molding device. The device can be set to mold 5 tablets into one aluminum or opaque PVC blister package.
The resulting blister packs go through a cooling tunnel, where they stay for 8— 10 minutes at a temperature of 2 - 8°C. After the cooling, the blister packs are moved to the "packaging machine.
The nutritional supplement according to the invention has the following advantages: it is easy to administer as it is comprised of chewable tablets obtained by incorporating vitamins and minerals into a fatty base, along with other excipients such as powdered milk and powdered sugar;
- the product has an innovative presentation and a very pleasant taste, similar to a dessert, the consumer being protected from the unpleasant taste and smell of certain vitamins and minerals;
- incorporation within a fatty base (hydrogenated vegetable oils) maintains all chemical properties of vitamins and minerals; ,
incorporation within a fatty base (hydrogenated vegetable oils) allows for an easy absorption of vitamins and minerals by the human body;
- the product is recommended for supplementing an unbalanced diet, loss of appetite, periods of intense physical or intellectual effort (the composition that also contains lecithin), convalescence, excessive tiredness, maintaining a healthy retina (the composition that also contains lutein), strengthening the immune system (the composition that also contains Echinacea) and maintaining a general state of good health.
